Honda Civic Sedan Type R e Mugen (only for Japan)

Here it is, the official unveiling of Honda’s new, super fast Civic Type R sedan, a car that’s set to light a new fire among Japanese gearheads, but is, at least for now, not earmarked for the U.S.

Wait—isn’t there already a new Civic Type R out? Yes, the new UK-made three-door that’s garnering rave reviews. And hasn’t this four-door Civic Type R already been seen? Yes again, it’s been coyly semi-previewed in Japan for at least six months now, but today, at last, it officially goes live. And on paper at least, it already seems to have the Brit version licked.

Why? Because it’s lighter and packs more power and torque. While the UK car has 198 brake-horsepower, 142 pound-feet of torque and weighs in at 1338 kgs, the Japanese CTR sedan formula equals 225 bhp, 158 pound-feet and 1270 kgs. You do the math.

You could argue that the Brit-spec car maybe looks more special, but Japan’s Type R is still a very sexy product, with specially stiffened shell (body rigidity up 50 percent on the recently departed but still much missed Integra Type R), coupled with a unique sports suspension, uprated brakes, and 18-inch wheels/tires.

Under the hood beats a next generation version of Honda’s legendary K20A 2.0-liter
i-VTEC screamer of an engine, with higher compression ratio, improved breathing and drive-by-wire throttle over the outgoing Integra. Power of 225 bhp from 2.0-liters, normally aspirated, tells you all and everything about Honda’s enduring engine wizardry.

Transmission once again is via close-ratio six-speed and again, true to form, the Type R is very coolly presented, with unique hood, fenders and grille treatment and a big high-mount trunk spoiler.

A lot of work, you could say, for a car that’s on target to sell 400 units a month, and all in Japan where the price of entry starts at $24,171. How will it go? We’ll keep you posted.





As seen here, the Mugen CTR gains a whole host of body modifications (front spoiler, grille, vented hood, rear wing and diffuser bumper cap), and it sports a range of bolt-ons, including a sports exhaust, air intake, and an uprated braking system (new rotors, lines, fluid, and pads), a sports suspension, and 18-inch gold-toned alloys.

Il motore ha tutti quei cavalli anche perchè il mercato jap ha standard + tolleranti in termini di emissioni inquinanti... omologare €4 quel coso mi sà di cosa impossibile, a meno di non perdere una ventina abbondante di ronzini (e arrivando per l'appunto vicino al valore della Typr-R EUDM).

Certo che, fari post a parte, è dieci fantastilioni di volte più bella questa di quel rutto che vendono da noi.....
