New car sales in Italy are expected to rise to 2.25 million units in 2006 from 2.24 million in 2005, industry body UNRAE's chairman reportedly said on Thursday.
"As we had expected, this year will close with around 2.24 million new car registrations, basically in line with last year," UNRAE chairman Salvatore Pistola said in a conference, according to Reuters.
"For 2006, we can indicate a similar figure to that of this year, that is, 2.25 million cars, volumes that match the targets of European car makers," he added.
Reuters noted that Fiat took more than 30% of the Italian car market for the first time in almost two years in November, as new models started to win back buyers.
