Last leg? Jaguar loses $715 million in 2006


We all know that Ford doesn't break down the earnings (or losses) of its Premier Automotive Group, which includes Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover and Aston Martin. Nevertheless, the Detroit News has learned just how much of an anchor the Jaguar brand was on the group's bottom line last year. In 2006 the Jaguar brand lost $715 million. DTN also uncovered an internal memo to executives that projects the brand will lose $550 million in 2007 and another $300 million in 2008. Clearly a quick turnaround is not in the cards for Jaguar, an asset into which Ford has dumped billions and billions of dollars since its purchase back in 1989.

le perdite erano previste dati gli importanti investimenti che sta facendo, si sta rinnovando l'intera gamma e questo inevitabilmente ha portato a determinati risultati. La situazione cambierà già a partire dall'anno prossimo quando ci saranno i primi dati di vendite della nuova XF (attesa per questa estate), del restyling della XJ e nel 2008 anche della X-Type. Le possibilità di far bene ci sono tutte...staremo a vedere.

ma se dichiarano che prevedono di perdere 550 milioni nel 2007, e 300 nel 2008...mi sembra che di lavoro ce ne sia proprio tanto..tra l'altro, sarebbe da quantificare quanti soldi ha speso ford dall'89, e quanti ne ha guadagnati..

ma non importa quanto si è speso fino ad oggi, quello che conta sono le prospettive di vendita future che saranno determinati per il futuro della Casa inglese. Gli investimenti sono tantissimi e si sta lavorano a pieno ritmo e confortanti dal successo di vendita della XK e dell'effetto domino che sta portando, infatti anche la XJ sta vendendo molto. Ripeto, molto dipenderà dalla XF...
Per Jaguar non c'è bisogno di farmi numeri da capogiro come BMW ma vendere bene, ovvero alti profitti su numeri non alti.

Effettivamente, se si parla "pubblicamente" di perdite previste così alte (e poco decrescenti) per i prossimi 2 anni, è probabile che le "reali" previsioni possano essere anche peggiori.
Non è un buon segno insomma.

già, io gli auguro ogni bene, ma finora l'investimento jag ha prodotto una voragine..è dall'89 che stanno aspettando di vedere buoni risultati!

Jaguar denies reports of huge lossesJan 26 2007

CAR-MAKER Jaguar last night dismissed a US press report claiming the company had lost more than £350m in 2006.

Yesterday, Jaguar's US-based parent company, Ford, published its full-year results which revealed a loss of £6.5bn for 2006, the biggest annual deficit in its 103-year history.

Ford also published results for its European-based subsidiary, Premier Automotive Group (PAG), which includes Jaguar and Land Rover. The Jaguar X-Type and the new Freelander 2 are both produced at Halewood in Merseyside, where around 2,400 people are employed.

The results showed that PAG's losses widened to more than £160m last year, compared with less than £45m in 2005.

However, the company insists this figure is explained by "prior model warranty accrual adjustments at Jaguar and Land Rover and unfavourable currency exchange rates". Full year sales for the group were virtually unchanged at around £15bn.


In the fourth quarter of 2006, PAG reported a pre-tax profit of just over £95m, an improvement of about £65m compared to 2005.


Ford does not release individual figures for Jaguar but a report in a Detroit-based newspaper claimed the brand had lost more than £350m last year with projected losses of around £275m this year.


The report said this was expected to fall to £150m for 2008 and added that Ford did not expect Jaguar to move into profit for several years.


However, a spokeswoman for Jaguar told the Daily Post: "That report was purely speculative and is not from any document we recognise." At a press conference, Ford chief executive Alan Mulally went further.


"The numbers are wrong," he said.


Ford acquired Jaguar, an iconic British brand, in 1989 for £1.6bn but has not made a penny profit with it since.


The company began producing the X-type, dubbed the Baby Jag, in 2000 hoping it would prove to be a hit in the lucrative US market. However, sales have been disappointing with initial annual sales targets of 90,000 now scaled back to under 50,000.


It has much higher hopes for the Freelander 2 which began rolling off the Halewood production line late last year.


Despite the poor performance of Jaguar, PAG executives have repeatedly denied speculation there are plans to sell the marque.
