Battle of the giants: beauty and character seal it for the Quattroporte


Autocar, the respected British weekly, features a head-to-head between the Maserati Quattroporte, the Mercedes E55 AMG and the Jaguar XJR in its 30 March issue.

Journalist Peter Robinson got behind the wheel of the three vehicles in Tuscany to see which car best combined comfort and driver appeal.

The burning question was to establish whether the Quattroporte really was able to shatter the hopes of the colossal German and British auto companies. Mercedes and Jaguar have based their undeniable success on large, fast saloons whereas Maserati has always been involved in producing sports cars. Now, with the Quattroporte, the Modena-based manufacturer has decided to broaden its range with a luxury berlina that blends perfectly class and sportiness.

In Robinson’s opinion, the Quattroporte easily carries off the prize for looks.
This is due to its balanced proportions, elegant detailing and innovative design. The V8 engine is Italian through and through with its unmistakable rumble. The sensations the car delivers to the driver and the balance of the chassis seduces anybody who gets into the driving seat. “It’s such a b-i-g car, yet it wraps itself around the driver. If there was a prize for the grin-factor, nothing else gets close”.

Robinson concludes the article by stating that for its character and the intensely involving drive, enthusiasts have no alternative: the pick of the bunch is undoubtedly the Quattroporte.

Grazie... Peccato che il confronto andava fatto con una Classe S 55 AMG, non con una E che sta ben sotto alla Quattroporte!

La vera rivale e' la S500 con il 5.0V8 aspirato da 306cv..meglio che non fanno il confronto perche la S500 sarebbe umiliata......hanno preso la piu' potente ma minore nelle dimensioni E55 perche aveva un prezzo piu' vicino a XJR e Quattroporte.....e comunque come tenuta di strada e prestazioni la S55 sarebbe anche peggio della piu' leggera meno ingombrante e recente E55 AMG....

p.s.meglio che alla Mercedes benz che progettano nessun motore aspirato di rilievo....sicuramente non con il modo che li progettano per la F1...

Ti ricordo che la 4porte usa un V8 aspirato di 4.2lt.....non un V8 sovralimentato di 5,5lt....e non credo che e' un complimento per MB usare un V8 Kompressor di 5,5lt per avere prestazioni dello stesso livello... :twisted:

Si appunto.....(ma in alcuni paesi viene venduta soltanto la S500...non e' disponibile la S430...)...
