Chissa.. sicuramente il piano di restrutturazione di inizio millennio non ha dato i risultati che in Germania speravano..

E per quanto poco mi intendo di finanza, ho l'impressione che a mercedes farebba solo bene, visto il trend positivo che sta avendo in questi ultimi anni. Poi magari, nel lungo termine, ma molto lungo, ci sarebbero da fare un saccp di altre valutazioni che forse non conosciamo.

Tra l'altro si parla di fusione, ma in realta' fu in pratica un acquisto di Chrysler da parte di MB, mascherato da fusione per non urtare la suscettibilita' dei clienti yankee.

Strano proprio ora che Dodge e Chrysler cominciavano un poco poco ad ingranare anche in Europa.

In Europa si, ma è niente in confronto al disastro che si sta verificando in USA. Le tre grandi sono letteralmente in ginocchio, in una situazione forse senza precedenti nella storia della motorizzazione americana.
Il costo della benzina è salito tantissimo in America negli ultimi anni ( pur costando ancora molto meno che da noi), dterminando la fuga e la dissaffezione degli americani per i motori di grossa cilindrata (i big-block) , cuore della produzione USA. I clienti americani chiedono vetture più sobrie, anche nelle dimensione, visto che pare essere rallentata la corsa al gigantismo dei veicoli americani. L'industria americana si è trovata impreparata di fronte a questa domanda, costringendo i clienti a preferire marchi europei e soprattutto giapponesi, che stanno facendo davvero affari d'oro da quelle parti.
Quel che è peggio è che i giapponesi stanno insidiando i produttori americani proprio sui loro cavalli di battaglia, i pick up e i light truck, con prodotti come il Toyota Tundra, una delle star all'ultimo salone di Los Angeles.
Sembra che il "pericolo giallo" , tanto temuto negli anni 80, in USA stia prendendo forza proprio adesso.

DCX: We may dump Chrysler

Wow, this is a great way to begin Valentine’s Day. Turns out that the board of DaimlerChrysler is so fed up with the American arm’s inability to make money that they are looking into dumping Chrysler into someone else’s hands. The move comes as the fifth-biggest carmaker is preparing to present a new restructuring plan that could see up to 11,000 job cuts, as well as factory closures. Chrysler is expected to announce it lost $1.3b last year – still nowhere near as large as Ford, but still a concern for DCX, in which the other sub-brands are doing quite well.
DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche doesn’t want to dump Chrysler. Instead, he wants to shrink production just as cross-town rivals Ford and GM have done and also begin developing cars more closely with Mercedes. According to the Detroit News, several joint projects are already in the works such as the development of common platforms for small cars and for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mercedes M-Class SUVs.
Major shareholders in DaimlerChrysler have already asked for the Chrysler Group to be removed from DCX, stating that the company has basically zero value on its own and that the synergies expected from the two groups have failed to materialize. Finding a partner for Chrysler would prove to be difficult considering the troubles facing GM and Ford.

Non mi sarei mai aspettato una prospettiva simile (e rimango cautamente scettico).

Però posso immaginare che, con l'attuale andamento del mercato Usa, se Chrysler rimanesse rapidamente "sola", non riuscirebbe a rimanere sulle proprie gambe e rischierebbe la chiusura o l'acquisto a prezzi stracciati.

Gm acquista Chrysler

MILANO - Dopo Manager Magazine, ora anche Automotive News, la rivista statunitense considerata una bibbia del settore dell'auto, rilancia l'ipotesi della General Motors che starebbe trattando l'acquisto integrale di Chrysler Group. Di riflesso, il colosso di Detroit amplia le perdite in Borsa (-1,87% a 35,76 dollari), mentre DaimlerChrysler sale del 2,48%, a 71,99 dollari.

Tra le due aziende sarebbe allo studio una cooperazione nel settore dei Suv, ma non si esclude un eventuale accordo che potrebbe andare ben oltre una limitata alleanza su modelli specifici.

We were all ready to start this week anew, leaving behind the reports of a supposed sale of Chrysler to General Motors. But alas, that ain't going to happen.

Both the Detroit News and Automotive News came out with stories this morning making it clear that talks between the two automakers are serious and have been going on for some time.

The initial reports about GM sharing its GMT900 truck platform may or may not have been true, but according to Autonews, what's being discussed would go well beyond simply exchanging some engineering for cash.

The high-level talks have been taking place over the course of the past two months, beginning in December, with Rick Wagoner, GM's chairman sitting down with Dr. Z from DCX. The two automaker's CFOs have met on at least four separate occasions to discuss the buyout/merger/absorption, but naturally, both companies have declined to comment.

The Detroit News had some particularly interesting tidbits, including the idea that if GM were to purchase Chrysler, it would no longer exist as a company unto itself. All of Chrysler's brands and products would just become part of GM's overall organization. As an example, Jeep, one of DCX's most valuable brands, might be partnered with HUMMER as the General's off-road arm.

The risk versus reward for GM is tipped further towards disaster than success, with massive cannibalization of products, excessive debt, mismanaged product lines (within both automakers) and we haven't even gotten into the UAW and the catastrophic amount of layoffs that could would take place.
