Volvo – now under the ownership of China’s Geely – has announced the recall of nearly 10,000 vehicles. The recall covers vehicles from the 2010 and 2011 model years.
According to Volvo and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 9,746 Volvo-branded vehicles may be equipped with faulty airbags.
The recall covers 2010-2011 S80 and XC70 models, as well as 2011 model year XC60 and V70 cars.
Volvo says the recall is due to "an intermittent fault in the driver's airbag clock spring wiring connector for the supplemental restraint system." As a result, some airbags may not deploy correctly in the event of a crash.
Year-to-date, Volvo has received 142 reports of the airbag problem from across the globe. Volvo says a dealer-installed metal shim should fix the problem.
