Fulmine a ciel sereno (anche se l'assenza di un tour per il nuovo album faceva pensare a qualche "cambiamento") ieri i REM hanno ufficialmente dichiarato lo scioglimento della band.

Sono molto spiazzato e rattristato dalla cosa.

I Rem annunciano lo scioglimento

MILANO - «Un uomo saggio una volta disse: la saggezza è a partecipare ad una festa e sapere quando è il momento di lasciare» In questo caso a vestire i panni del saggio è Mike Mills, il bassista dei Rem che così annuncia lo scioglimento della storica band. La storia di un gruppo lunga 31 anni e una sfilza di successi irripetibili termina con un post sul sito ufficiale della band. «Ai nostri fan e ai nostri amici. Come amici di una vita e co-cospiratori - scrive Michael Stipe sulla medesima pagina online -, abbiamo deciso di smettere di essere una band. Ce ne andiamo con grande senso di gratitudine, di compiutezza, e di stupore per tutto ciò che abbiamo realizzato. A chiunque sia mai stato toccato dalla nostra musica va il nostro più profondo ringraziamento per averci ascoltato».

R.E.M. is unique in that they are very much still the group of friends from Athens, Georgia that they've been since the band formed in 1979. While their career has spanned 15 studio albums and huge global success, the band itself only ever comprised the four original members. The one person to leave this tight-knit group was drummer Bill Berry, who retired two years after suffering a brain aneurysm on-stage during 1995's "Monster" tour. But not before extracting a promise from his band mates that they would continue on as R.E.M.: "Bill insisted he would stay, if his leaving meant breaking the band up," remembers Michael Stipe.

Mills adds: "We have always been a band in the truest sense of the word. Brothers who truly love and respect each other. Almeno, da quanto ho capito, non hanno litigato, è stata una "consapevole scelta di strade diverse". Peccato, anche se era una decina di anni che non li seguivo più come un tempo. Magari da soli riusciranno a tirare fuori qualcosa di più adatto ad ognuno

bè dai sono durati 30 e passa anni, a me nn sono mai andati giu' granche' ma io preferisco che si ritirino piuttosto che fare "accanimento terapeutico" se a loro sembra di non avere piu' niente da dire insieme.
