Se il buongiorno si vede dal mattino....
...possiamo archiviare l'annata 2008.....

Citazione:
Rally Monte Carlo - end of day three update

At the end of the third day of Rallye Monte Carlo Sebastien Loeb remains firmly in the lead; on course to clinch a record breaking fifth Monte victory and get his world title defence off to the best possible start.
Loeb started the day 56 seconds ahead of his Citroen team-mate Dani Sordo in second, but after Sordo's retirement in the morning with an engine problem, the Frenchman will start Sunday's final day more than two minutes ahead of the rest of the field. "I'm enjoying myself," said Loeb. "It's a nice rally, a lot of spectators everywhere so it's a good atmosphere. The stages were interesting and not too tricky today so they've been good to drive, and I'm looking forward to the five remaining ones tomorrow."
The third day of the opening round of the FIA World Rally Championship was the longest of the event. Drivers faced 132.78km of competition, divided between six speed tests in the Ardeche Mountains to the north-west of the rally base in Valence.

Crews left the town in darkness shortly before 0600hrs for the opening loop of three special stages, which were repeated in the afternoon after a 20-minute service. Clear skies and icy patches greeted drivers on the early stages, but roads were generally dry and ice free for the rest of the day.
Sordo got off to a good start by going fastest on the opening test, SS9, but Loeb was back in dominant form on SS10. When Sordo retired with a broken turbo on SS11, Loeb's closest rival became Ford's lead driver Mikko Hirvonen, who was nearly two minutes away. "After Sordo retired we took it a bit easier," said Hirvonen. "Okay, we are now up to second, and if I can finish the rally like this it would be very important points for the drivers title. There are just four or five difficult stages to go tomorrow, so we'll see."

Subaru's Chris Atkinson holds the final podium position after a good day in his Impreza. Atkinson was the fastest driver through SS13, beating rally leader Loeb by almost ten seconds, and becoming the only non Citroen driver to take a stage win so far this season. The Australian recorded the first asphalt stage win of his career on the same 25km section last year and had an unusual explanation for his speed: "I think maybe I'm a bit stupid, I guess," he said. "It's quite fast and tricky and I don't like to use the brakes so much - so it worked okay."
Francois Duval is fourth in his Stobart team Ford Focus. The Belgian kept the pressure on Atkinson during the morning and closed to within 10-seconds of rival by the midpoint service. In the afternoon, however, Duval couldn't match Atkinson's pace and he will start the final day 20 seconds adrift. In service Duval wasn't too optimistic about his chances of taking fourth: "I think the gap ahead to Atkinson is too much for me to catch as the conditions on the stages tomorrow are likely to be tricky - especially if you are pushing. We are getting more used to the car every stage but I still think we need to be very careful," said Duval.
Petter Solberg had a trouble-free day in his Impreza and rounds out the top five places. He was unable to match the pace of his team-mate, but two cars in the top five could be a valuable result for the Japanese manufacturer. Despite approaching this rally with last year's Impreza, and modest expectations of success, Subaru is on course for one of its best results for a long time. If Atkinson remains third and Solberg fifth, the team could leave Monte Carlo as joint leaders of the manufacturers' championship with Citroen.
After the evening service in Valence, a free transit section took competitors on the 400km journey to Monaco in readiness for Sunday's final day of action. The first stage - which includes the legendary Col du Turini section - starts at 0950hrs.
