VW Constellation

Recife - Volkswagen Trucks and Busses, subsidiary of the German giant in Brazil, announced yesterday (19), in the city of Resende, in the southeastern Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, an investment worth US$ 436.3 million in Brazil to set up an exports platform to the Middle East and South Africa. The expansion of the industrial plant, installed in Rio de Janeiro since 1997, will create a new work shift (directed exclusively to exports), with a physical enlargement of 20%. The new hit by Volkswagen in the Arab market will be the Constellation line, vehicles with cargo capacity of above 43 tonnes.

The Constellation line of trucks is formed by the models VW 19.320 Titan Tractor, VW 17.250 and VW 24.250. "The development project for this new line involved more than 200 professionals and consumed more than 7 million kilometres in tests in South America, Africa and Europe," says Roberto Cortes, CEO at Volkswagen Trucks and Busses, which manufactures trucks 25 models and nine different bus chassis for the domestic market, as well as specific products for other countries. In the Constellation line project alone some US$ 283.6 million were invested.

For the while, the VW trucks will be exported ready to the Middle East. As of next year, however, they will be shipped in semi-dismantled modules for the final assembly in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates. As was reported by ANBA in December 2004, a trade agreement signed between Volkswagen and the emirate's state-owned company Mubadala Development Company foresees an industrial unit with the capacity of manufacturing up to 3,000 vehicles per year, with an investment of 40 million euros (almost US$ 50 million, by the current exchange values).

Still according to the Volkswagen Trucks and Busses CEO, the industrial plants in Resende and Abu Dhabi - to which another will be added, in the future, in South Africa - will be responsible for meeting the demand in the entire southern hemisphere of the planet. "These three units will answer, in the next five years, for the exports to 30 countries," reveals Cortes.


The new line of trucks Constellation was born out of the association between German and Brazilian engineers. The highlights are the daring design and comfort unknown up to now in the category. The new bunk cabin and the high ceiling have a modern design, functional attributes and a great number of items that ensure convenience in the series vehicles. Inside the cabin, a 1.95 metre tall person can stand upright and may rest comfortably in a 2 metre-long bed.

Entirely designed in digital stations at the Volkswagen Design Centre in Wolfsburg, it offers strict ergonomics standards, due to the use of new technological tools. The great size and strength of the lines of the cabins make out of the Constellation a vehicle of easy recognition, even at a distance. At night, the headlights' exclusive design differentiates the model.

E' decisamente un Truck all'americana più che un Tir alla europea. Nonostante le linee ammorbidite, le dimensioni sembrano consistenti: di certo l'abitacolo è quasi un metro più in alto della maggiorparte dei tir Europei.

In effetti 195 come altezza interna se non sbaglio l'AE arriva a 180....
Ho visto qualche truck in perù , i pochi non toyota e volvo, della ww brasiliana cìè anche qualcuno che non sembra male ma se non sbaglio mai avevano fatto camion così grandi, motori?

Non male.....ma motori ww o prestati da qualche colosso dei veicoli pesanti, se sono ww saranno partiti da zero dato che non avevano mai fatto camion così grandi, chissà se non gli convenga importarli in europa così a vista non sembrerebbero male ma dovrebbero fare da zero una rete solo per camion e magari certe specifiche europee non li rispettano.

Su Tuttotrasporti di qualche mese fa era uscita una foto con questo camion pesantemente mascherato.

Credo che in Brasile i camion siano un po' più pesanti che in Europa, date le lunghe distanze.
Volkswagen vende già camion grossi in sudamerica, credo che siano di loro progettazione. Le difficoltà più grosse per venderlo in Europa penso anch' io che siano la rete di vendita ed il fatto che è praticamente sconosciuto, anche come marchio, ai vari utenti.

ma c'è la versione GTI con la calandra bordata di rosso??

Anche il Mercedes Actros nelle versioni 50, 54 e 58 ha una targhetta sopra la mascherina con scritto V8, io penso sempre che sia la versione sportiva.

Confermo ..in brasile fanno anche i CONVOGLI....1 camion + 2 rimorchi.....

cazzata... il magnum ha una cabina obsoleta... serie R topline arriva a 220 cm interni... quello è indubbiamente sotto i 4m di altezza
