When Chevrolet revealed its stunning Camaro coupe concept at last January’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, General Motors only left one question unanswered.

No, we’re not talking about whether GM would approve production of the back-from-the-dead pony car—that was a given, at least unofficially, before the car even rolled onto the show stage. The bigger question was how Chevy planned to sustain interest in its all-new muscle machine for three years between the reveal and the projected early-2009 on-sale date.

Causa crisi, la Camaro Convertible è ufficialmente congelata.

Il problema principale sembra essere il fallimento del fornitore tedesco che avrebbe dovuto produrre la capote.

La ricerca di un nuovo fornitore e la ripresa dello sviluppo dovrebbero ritardare l'uscita di almeno 6 mesi, passando da inizio 2010 a 2010 inoltrato.

Ma è probabile che, causa conti GM che non serve neppure ricordare, il progetto venga lasciato fermo fino a data da destinarsi.

A quanto pare c'è una parziale buona notizia per la Camaro Convertible.

Parziale perchè, sebbene pare che il progetto sia stato scongelato, la data prevista per l'uscita si sposta ancora più avanti, fino a marzo 2011.

La conferma arriva da un portavoce di GM che indica per il primo trimestre 2011 l'inizio della produzione, mentre l'ingresso sul mercato sarà due anni dopo quello della coupè, quindi a marzo dello stesso anno.

GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan has confirmed to Automotive News that production of the highly anticipated drop-top is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2011. He went on to concede that this will be a few months later than the originally planned late 2010 launch.

"We always thought it would be one year after the coupe," he said. "Instead we are going two."
