Per quanto riguarda il cambio, è cosa risaputa che i vecchi automatici di Volvo sono una cagata pazzesca .

Io ho la Volvo XC90, a parte i 7 posti che sono veri e il bagagliaio per il resto è veramente pessima. Il consumo è esagerato (8 km/litro in condizioni normali), la rapportatura del cambio automatico è ridicola (cambia quando non dovrebbe con continui strappi), la tenuta di strada inesistente, la frenata approssimativa e pericolosa in condizioni critiche. Un'auto da rifare completamente!

Non è che 10 anni fa c'erano poi auto scandalose, in effetti un mio amico guida qualche volta quella del suo capo e mi ha detto le stesse cose di isogrifo e il mio amico come macchina più bella ha una gpunto base quindi...) però dice che il suo capo , pur miliardario, è ormai alla sua seconda XC90 perchè ha 3 o 4 figli piccoli e a lui va bene così prima aveva il voyager.

Cmq la notizia di nuova XC90 avvalora la tesi che sti cinesi stanno investendo in volvo, ottimo.

GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The next-generation Volvo XC90 will be launched in calendar year 2014, as the Swedish automaker, now an affiliate of China's Geely Automobile, considers an even broader portfolio of future crossovers that includes the upcoming XC40 compact and could stretch down eventually to an entry-level XC30.

By the time the new XC90 arrives, this successful SUV — a legacy of Ford's ownership — will be 12 years old, having received a modest face-lift for model year 2013 to tide it over until its successor is introduced two years from now.

The 2015 XC90 will be the first model based on the company's all new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), which will provide the hardware for the next generation of Volvo S60, V70, XC60 and S80.

The automaker previously released a series of teaser design renderings of the next XC90, each of them distinctly different. The boldest of these features the wide grille design similar to the one that debuted on the large Concept You sedan unveiled at last year's 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The other designs included a very rakish, elegantly wedged XC90, together with two more evolutionary proposals.

There is no clue as to which of these themes Volvo will pursue, but we can expect the next XC90 to offer at least as much practicality as the original (including seven-seat capability), coupled with a noticeably more luxurious interior.

The 2015 XC90 will also use Volvo's new generation of downsized VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) engines, all of which are four-cylinder and likely to be turbocharged, as Volvo plans to drop its six-cylinder engine range.

The VEA four will be developed in gasoline and diesel formats, although it's not clear whether Volvo will be offering both in the U.S. by this time. But the engine will also be offered as part of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as Volvo is well advanced with hardware it has co-developed with Siemens.

The company has also revealed that it would like to develop a subcompact crossover to slot below the V40-based XC40 that is expected to make its public debut this fall at the Paris auto show.

The plan for the smaller crossover is currently a distant one because Volvo does not have a small-car platform on which to build it; the just-released V40 hatchback is based on compact architecture provided by previous owner Ford, whose hardware Volvo is gradually phasing out.

Volvo has publicly announced its desire to find a partner with which to share platform development and, according to insiders, is in daily talks with several carmakers over a deal. The company has also set up a new department specifically to handle alliances with other makers. Volvo believes that its newfound proficiency in plug-in hybrids, not to mention its safety expertise, will provide it with attractive technologies that it can part-trade for a new platform.

This new subcompact crossover would be in addition to the upcoming XC40 and midsize XC60, and could appear by the middle of this decade if Volvo finds a suitable platform architecture within the next 12 months.

Volvo also confirmed that it has reversed its earlier decision and now expects to sell the new V40 hatchback in the U.S. It adds there are currently no plans for any other V40 variations, even though sedan and wagon versions have already been styled.

Inside Line says: Volvo will need a new XC90 very badly by 2014, but a decision on a much smaller crossover probably doesn't need to be made right away.
