2013 Cadillac SRX Spy Photos

Subtle fascia changes and a new, high-tech interior.

What It Is: A midcycle update of Cadillac’s bestselling SRX crossover. From what we can tell, only the grille inserts—seen here fitted with what appears to be a radar cruise-control module—have changed and little else. It’s a different story inside, as we reported in a previous sighting of an SRX prototype last year, where an all-new center-stack design featuring capacitive touch controls and Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system were fitted in place of conventional buttons and knobs. A similar setup is also seen in the upcoming 2013 XTS luxury sedan.

Why It Matters: The SRX has been doing some very heavy lifting for Cadillac, particularly since the porky DTS was put out to pasture. That left Cadillac with just two other product lines: the CTS and Escalade. Given its importance, we might have expected broader styling updates for the 2013 SRX, but if it ain’t broke, Caddy ain’t fixing it:the SRX continues to sell briskly. Still, it’s worth mentioning that this Cadillac’s main rival, the Lexus RX, has received an extensive update for 2013.

Powertrain: For 2012, Cadillac replaced the pair of inadequate V-6s available in earlier SRX models with a direct-injected, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. (Read our first drive of the SRX 3.6 here.) Thus, Cadillac likely will not change anything under the hood, or the rest of the SRX’s beveled sheetmetal, for that matter.

Competition: BMW X3, Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLK, Audi Q5, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Lincoln MKX, and Lexus RX350.

Estimated Arrival and Price: This 2013 model year is a busy one for Cadillac as it plots the market introductions of the aforementioned XTS this spring and the compact 2013 ATS sports sedan in the fall. Expect the freshened 2013 SRX to slip into Cadillac showrooms sometime this summer between the arrivals of the new Caddy sedans, which likely will be far splashier affairs. Given the new technology inside, pricing may climb slightly from that of the 2012 model, which starts at $36,360. View Photo
