Press Release :

he New Mercedes-Benz Vito: Low on costs, high on payload, expert on safety – as a mid-size van the new Vito sets benchmarks

  • One for all: the astonishingly versatile new Vito
  • The new Vito offers a broad product range, encompassing the Vito panel van, the Vito Mixto and the Vito Tourer family
  • For the first time in this segment: front, rear and all-wheel drive
  • Two turbodiesel engines in five power ratings altogether
  • Low on costs: systematically configured for efficiency
  • Up to eight airbags on the Vito Tourer, new assistance systems

Offering tangible external strengths, great intrinsic values, maximum benefit and low costs, the new Mercedes-Benz Vito is the versatile and real professional among mid-size vans with a permissible gross vehicle weight between 2.5 and 3.2 tonnes. Although it has a record-level payload the purchase price and maintenance costs are unexpectedly low. In Germany the Vito 109 CDI panel van starts from 17 990 euros (excluding VAT).

One for all: the astonishingly versatile new Vito

From skilled crafts and trades to retail, service providers, shuttle services and taxis – the new Vito is truly one vehicle for all. The Vito panel van is the only model in its class available in three lengths and with three different drive systems. With up to 1369 kg of cargo capacity, it has the highest payload in its class. Meanwhile the Vito Mixto featuring a crewcab combines the advantages of a panel van with those of a crewbus. The new Vito Tourer sees Mercedes-Benz opening an entirely new chapter in passenger transport. There are three versions available: the functional and rugged Vito Tourer BASE, the versatile Vito Tourer PRO and the premium Vito Tourer SELECT. By virtue of this complete model family, the Tourer can be tailored to accommodate all types of passenger transport.

Design: synthesis of form and function

The new Vito creates an assertive and unmistakable impression. For the new Vito, however, design is not an end in itself. With a Cd value of 0.32 wind resistance is very low.

This reduces fuel consumption and improves performance. Even at first glance the new Vito's bodywork exudes high quality, apparent from aspects such as narrow, even joints.

Interior: take a seat and feel good

Both the driver and passenger are comfortably seated in the new Vito and benefit from more space than before.

Now completely redesigned, the new Vito's cockpit is exemplary in terms of its functionality and ergonomics. Symmetrical in its fundamental form, the structure is clear and uncluttered for maximum operational safety. The cockpit has an exceptionally high-quality look for this vehicle class.

During development the stowage concept received plenty of attention. After all, for many drivers the new Vito is their office and a living space too.

For the first time in this segment: front, rear and all-wheel drive

"One for all" is something that applies to the new Vito's drive system in particular. It is the first vehicle in its class to be available with a choice of rear-wheel, all-wheel and now front-wheel drive too.

The correlation is clear: the new front-wheel drive system in the range is very light. When unladen or carrying only a light load, front-wheel drive offers better traction. The purchase price is also highly attractive. Proven rear-wheel drive is the right solution for all applications involving heavy weights, high towing capacities and exceptional driving dynamics.

All-wheel drive is necessary when high traction is required, including in tough conditions or off surfaced roads. Due to the new integral design of the all-wheel drive, the vehicle height of the Vito 4x4 is the same as on models with front or rear-wheel drive.

Two turbodiesel engines in five power ratings altogether

The new Vito with front-wheel drive is made for the following profile: predominantly solo operation with maximum payload at low to medium gross vehicle weights. Keeping costs as low as possible is also a priority.

It has a transverse-mounted, compact four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.6 litres and which is available in two power ratings: the Vito 109 CDI with 65 kW (88 hp) and the Vito 111 CDI with 84 kW (114 hp).

In cases where demands on performance are high, use will be intensive, gross vehicle weights are high or trailer towing will be demanding, the right choice is the new Vito with rear-wheel drive and four-cylinder engine with a 2.15-litre displacement. It is available at three power output levels Vito 114 CDI, 100 kW (136 hp); Vito 116 CDI, 120 kW (163 hp), and Vito 119 BlueTEC, 140 kW (190 hp). As the first Euro 6 engine in this class the Vito 119 BlueTEC occupies a special place.

Six-speed manual transmissions handle power transmission as standard. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with torque converter is optional for the Vito 114 CDI and Vito 116 CDI and standard equipment on the Vito 119 BlueTEC and the Vito 4x4 with all-wheel drive. For vans it is the world's only automatic transmission with torque converter and seven gears.

Low on costs: systematically configured for efficiency

From the transmission and low-friction rear axle to the electromechanical steering and auxiliary units – the engineers designed the new Vito for maximum fuel efficiency. On average, consumption of diesel in the NEDC is some 20 percent less than for the preceding version.

The Vito BlueEfficiency is exceptionally economical when it comes to fuel use. This package is available for the new Vito with rear-wheel drive and is standard on all Vito Tourers with automatic transmission, car registration and in conjunction with the most powerful engine. The certified figure of 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres for the Vito 116 CDI BlueEfficiency and truck registration is unmatched in this vehicle category.

Whatever the engine variant, every new Vito benefits from long service intervals of up to 40,000 km or two years.

Optimised suspension with new electromechanical steering

The suspension's accepted high quality has been enhanced even further. The starting point is the steering system with electromechanical power assistance and changes to the kinematics. It extends to the semi-trailing arm rear axle with coil springs and new spring and damper tuning.

The Vito panel van and Mixto are designed for high loads. A comfort suspension is provided as an option for the Mixto and as standard on all Vito Tourer models. Features include less taut springs and more sensitive shock absorber control.

High level of safety – the Vito as benchmark in its vehicle class

The new Mercedes-Benz Vito also sets new safety standards. This naturally extends to precision steering and powerful disc brakes all-round (with 16" or 17" braking system depending on the model), as well as ADAPTIVE ESP as standard.

Up to eight airbags on the Vito Tourer, new assistance systems

The Vito panel van is the only van to provide airbags and a seat belt reminder for both the driver and passenger as standard. Vito Tourer PRO and Vito Tourer SELECT models also come with windowbags and thorax/pelvis sidebags in the front. For the first time, it is possible to get windowbags in the rear for the Tourer. With up to eight airbags in total, the Tourer is the new benchmark by comparison.

The new Vito's standard equipment includes Attention Assist. Based on various parameters, it draws conclusions as to the driver's condition. Uniquely in this class Crosswind Assist comes as standard. Crosswind Assist virtually eliminates the effects of gusts acting on the vehicle. Tyre pressure monitoring is another item of standard equipment.

The new Vito may be equipped with other assistance systems to suit individual needs. Active Parking Assist is new and unique for vans. The distance warning function is equally unique in this segment. Blind Spot Assist issues a warning if there are other vehicles in the blind spot when changing lanes, Lane Keeping Assist if the vehicle deviates from its lane.

More light for more sight: Intelligent Light System

An optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) provides an alternative in the new Vito to the standard, powerful halogen headlamps. Unique for vans, this technology consists of LED indicators, LED daytime running lamps, as well as LED low-beam headlamps and main beam with cornering light function. Depending on the road speed, the headlamps adapt for driving on motorways or country roads by varying the light distribution.

Two wheelbases, three lengths, up to four weight variants

All three lengths are 140 millimetres longer than the preceding Vito. This can mainly be attributed to an extended front end to help protect pedestrians. The resulting vehicle lengths are 4895 mm, 5140 mm and 5370 mm. The maximum vehicle height is 1910 mm depending on the model. Consequently all variants are significantly below the important two-metre mark and therefore fit standard multi-storey/underground car parks and automatic car washes.

The permissible gross vehicle weights at the heart of the range are 2.8 t and 3.05 t. They are complemented by a reduced 2.5 t variant and an upgraded 3.2 t Vito. Thanks to the new front-wheel drive in conjunction with a compact diesel engine, the Vito panel van's kerb weight for the medium length with standard equipment is just 1761 kg. As a result, even the Vito with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.05 t achieves a very impressive payload of 1289 kg. However, the payload champion of its class is the rear-wheel drive Vito, which has a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.2 t and a payload capacity of 1369 kg.

Mercedes-Benz at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon: Marco Polo and Marco Polo ACTIVITY - the new compact camper vans and recreational vehicles

  • The perfect combination of leisure and daily use
  • Marco Polo - the new style in independence
  • Marco Polo ACTIVITY - the all-rounder all set for any adventure

Düsseldorf - In the run-up to the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, Mercedes-Benz today presented two new stars that stand for freedom and independence: the all-new Marco Polo and Marco Polo ACTIVITY camper vans and recreational vehicles. Both vehicles introduce new ideas in their segment. Featuring modern design, the ultimate in functionality and excellent sleeping comfort, they are equally ideal for long trips or daily and urban use. The new Mercedes-Benz camper vans and recreational vehicles can be seen in Hall 16 (Stand D18) at the Caravan Salon until 7 September 2014. "Meeting a host of customer requirements, these two highly attractive vehicles from the new Marco Polo model series enrich the segment for compact camper vans and recreational vehicles," said Klaus Maier, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans. "From discerning individuals to young families and sports or outdoor activity enthusiasts - our two new Marco Polo models provide the optimal solution for every requirement. Combining leisure and daily use to perfection, they offer attractive design, exemplary safety and efficiency."

The perfect combination of leisure and daily use

The compact exterior dimensions, with a length of 5.14 metres and a width of 1.93 metres (excluding mirrors), combine with the electromechanical power steering to ensure great manoeuvrability and impressive agility. With a height of 1.98 metres they are able to enter all standard garages, multi-storey car parks, underground garages and car washes. At the same time, the Marco Polo and the Marco Polo ACTIVITY offer a standard of dynamic performance, comfort and economy on a par with a Mercedes-Benz passenger car. In this way, they allow the utmost flexibility and spontaneity in daily and leisure use. Numerous driver assistance systems ensure exemplary safety. Crosswind Assist and ATTENTION ASSIST are on board as standard.

The Marco Polo - the new style in independence

Featuring a fully equipped kitchen and a wardrobe with a swing-out, illuminated mirror, the Marco Polo also comes with a sliding seating/sleeping couch, rotating front seats, a folding/sliding table and a roof bed. This compact camper van combines maximum functionality with supreme comfort and style, setting new standards in its segment in the process. The interior resembles a modern lounge for discerning individualists who wish to use their camper van both for leisure purposes and on an everyday basis. For an exceptional quality feel its modern design features stylish light and dark contrasts, high-grade materials, a standard floor covering that looks like yacht decking, and atmospheric LED interior lighting including optional ambient lighting.

The kitchen module has a remarkably innovative stowage system. It consists of a large, self-closing drawer with extending worktop, two smaller, self-closing drawers which can also be opened when the bed is folded out, and a large stowage compartment with a sliding door. The covers for the kitchenette are made of smoked safety glass. This means that light continues to flood in through the window even when the covers are folded upwards. The kitchenette is fully equipped with two gas burners, a sink and a compressor refrigerator with a capacity of 40 litres. The fresh water tank has a capacity of 38 litres, the waste water tank 40 litres. Both tanks are therefore considerably larger than in the predecessor model.

A seating/sleeping couch in the rear provides excellent sleeping comfort for two people. The backrest is divided into two, and can be individually electrically adjusted on each side. Under the pop-up roof there is another comfortable double bed with a cold foam mattress and spring elements with high point elasticity. Made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and with a concertina of opaque, waterproof woven fabric, the pop-up roof has been further improved compared to the predecessor. Thanks to an innovative scissor-action system, it has been possible to increase the pop-up height in the rear area considerably and therefore provide particularly generous legroom. The way in which the woven fabric draws in has been improved to ensure that it collapses accurately in concertina-like fashion when the roof is lowered again. The pop-up roof is optionally available with an electric motor.

Other highlights include the standard-fitted electric vent window in the rear, tinted windows, a camping table with two chairs for outside as well as an optional rear window that opens separately and, for the first time in this segment, a detachable awning.

The Marco Polo is powered by the 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine in three output variants (100 kW/136 hp, 120 kW/163 hp and 140 kW/190 hp) that also ensures dynamic and efficient driving pleasure in the V-Class. For optimum traction on any surface, the top-of-the-line Marco Polo 250 BlueTEC engine is available with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The new Marco Polo starts from 54,835 euros (price in Germany incl. 19% VAT). Mercedes-Benz is thus maintaining the attractive price positioning for which the previous model was known.

The Marco Polo ACTIVITY - the all-rounder all set for any adventure

The compact Marco Polo ACTIVITY recreational vehicle boasts exceptional versatility. With a highly variable interior, comfortable berths for up to five people, five engine variants from 65 kW to 140 kW (88 hp to 190 hp) and three drive types (front, rear and all-wheel drive), it can be customised to individual requirements. This makes it the ideal vehicle for young families as well as those enjoying sports and recreational activities – for 365 days of the year.

The Marco Polo ACTIVITY is equipped as standard with a three-seater bench with one-piece backrest and bed extension. The bench can slide forward on rails. In this way, the capacity of the luggage compartment can be more than doubled in an instant to accommodate surfboards, paragliding equipment or even a bicycle inside the vehicle. Anyone who requires even more room, e.g. for carrying newly purchased shelf units, can also use the surface of the bed and the floor underneath the bed as load space. Under the bed are two drawers that can be removed, allowing items to be loaded through the resulting space.

In just a few movements, the bench seat can be converted into a comfortable bed for three people. An additional sleeping facility for two people is offered by the roof bed under the pop-up roof on board the new Marco Polo. Featuring a cold foam mattress and spring elements with high point elasticity, this bed offers a standard of lying comfort that is exceptional in the segment. Other standard equipment items are the folding table, multiple bottle holders and cup holders, two electric vent windows, curtains in the rear and pre-installation for a radio. The starting price for adventures with the Marco Polo ACTIVITY is 38,960 euros (price in Germany incl. 19% VAT).

Peccato l'assenza del terzo sedile, e superflua la versione furgone con lo sportello integrale posteriore. Interni niente male
