Hyundai South Korea has published a series of revealing images with the three-in-oneIONIQ set to be a global model.

We’re calling it a “three-in-one” because Hyundai will sell the IONIQ as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure EV. The first to see the light of day is the hybrid version depicted here with a design that probably won’t create as much controversy as the latest Prius. That being said, the way this car has been styled clearly shows it will compete with the Prius on all fronts.

The interior cabin is typical Hyundai business these days, but with some blue accents, a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster. The gear knob with metallic trim is for the six-speed, dual-clutch transmission and it seems the model will be offered with an electric parking brake. Keep in mind that photo of the interior likely shows the range-topping model, so the lesser versions won’t have as many goodies.

A press release in a language we can understand is not available right now, but we can tell you the IONIQ is powered by a dedicated four-cylinder, 1.6-liter GDI engine with 103 horsepower (77 kW) and 108 pound-feet (146 Nm) of torque. It works together with an electric motor generating 43 hp (32 kW) and 125 lb-ft (170 Nm).

It will feature a predictive energy management system together with an eco-driving assistant system and a coasting guide to help the driver keep the battery charged and obtain the best possible fuel economy. Speaking of which, the base model fitted with 15-inch wheels and skinny tires promises to return 22.4 km / l in the South Korean test cycle. If we were to convert this to miles per gallon, the IONIQ will do 53 mpg, but the conversion is not entirely accurate given the different testing procedures.

We will do a follow-up story once we’ll get our hands on a press release we can actually read.

Nella vista di profilo le proporzioni non mi dispiacciono affatto però il muso mi lascia un po' perplesso. Da vedere live.
