Attualmente, al lancio è immortalata solo la GLE 450 4Matic EQ Boost che è spinta dal 6 cilindri in linea da 3.0 litri e modulo elettrico a supporto. La potenza combinata è di 388 CV (367 CV per il 6L benzina ed altri 21 di picco dal motore elettrico) e 750 Nm di coppia (500 dal termico e 250 Nm dal comparto elettrico).

Esteticamente la GLE ha un passo aumentato di 80 mm (2.95 metri)

 

Testa di serie - per il momento - ibrida, rappresentata dalla Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 che è spinta dal V8 4.0 litri TwinTurbo a cui si associa il modulo elettrico con impianto dedicato da 48V. Il V8 esprime 360 kW / 490 CV e 700 Nm di coppia, a cui si associano i 16 kW / 22 CV e 250 Nm del modulo elettrico EQ-Boost. 

 

 

C'è anche la GLE 350de, ossia il diesel con motore elettrico in aggiunta e plug-in.

194 CV + 136 CV dal motore elettrico, la potenza combinata è di 320 CV ed una coppia di 700 Nm. Lo scatto da 0 a 100 km/h è coperto da 6.8 secondi ed una velocità massima - autolimitata - di 210 km/h (160 km/h per il solo utilizzo del motore elettrico).

Grazie ad un pack batteria di 31.2 kWh, garantendole un'autonomia solo EV di 100 km. Una volta che la batteria è scarica, ci vorranno solo 20 minuti per caricarla dal 10% all'80% o 30 minuti dal 10% al 100% utilizzando una stazione di ricarica CC. Da una wallbox, ci vorranno 90 minuti per una ricarica completa, mentre da una presa di corrente convenzionale ci vorranno circa cinque ore. Ci sarà un caricabatterie di bordo da 7,4 kW e una frenata rigenerativa per ricaricare la batteria mentre sei in viaggio.

Stuttgart.  The new Mercedes-Benz GLE is not only exceptionally dynamic and more comfortable on the road, it is also more competent off the beaten track than ever before. Its exterior design exudes strength and charisma and at the same time sets a new aerodynamic best value in its segment with a cw value from 0.29. The interior is even more spacious, the second row of seats is electrically adjustable as an option and a third seat row is available on request. And the GLE will be full of innovations at launch. For example, the active suspension system E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL on a 48-volt basis is a world first, and allows the GLE to master even the toughest of terrain. The new driver assistance systems further increase the level of active safety. The infotainment system has larger screens, and optionally comes with a full-colour head-up display with a resolution of 720 x 240 pixels and the MBUX Interior Assistant, which can recognise hand and arm movements and supports the driver's and front passenger's operating intentions. The new Mercedes-Benz GLE will be launched with two engine line-ups and will be delivered from the beginning of 2019. Prices start at 65,807 euros.[1]

The GLE 300 d 4MATIC with 180 kW (245 hp) and 500 Nm is available as the first diesel from the current engine family (combined fuel consumption: 6.4-6.1 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 169-161 g/km)[2]. Thanks to further expanded emission control technologies, the powerful four-cylinder remains below all emission limits far beyond the norm, even in demanding driving situations and environmental conditions. Prices start at 65,807 euros.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC as the first petrol model is powered by a six-cylinder engine systematically electrified with 48-volt technology (combined fuel consumption: 9.4-8.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 214-190 g/km)2, and is available on market launch. Its performance data: 270 kW (367 hp) and 500 Nm of torque, with a further 250 Nm of torque and 16 kW/22 hp available via EQ Boost over short periods. Prices start at 72,649.50 euros.

In the AIRMATIC package (2,034.90 euro) an active damping system is combined with a modern air suspension for an intelligent comfort suspension that can automatically adjust to the driving situation, speed and load. E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL is the ultimate in all things suspension (7,735 euro): the synthesis of comfort, precision and dynamics, combined with unique off-road characteristics. This includes the fully active, electro-hydraulic suspension on a 48-volt basis; four DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes including recovery mode, and depending on other equipment, ROAD SURFACE SCAN and the three-stage CURVE inclination function.

The Off-road Technology package (2,261 euro, only for GLE 450 4MATIC) is an innovative combination for effortless driving on all routes both on and off the beaten track. Components include a fully variable, stepless all-wheel drive, which combines the dynamic benefits of torque-on-demand with a low-range ratio for gears. Other functions include speed regulation for steep downhill drives, off-road ABS with specific optimisation for roads in poor conditions and technical protection for the entire underbody. In addition, there is the DYNAMIC SELECT drive programme with extended functionality.

The trailer hitch (1,142.40 euro) is electrically foldable and retractable. With AIRMATIC, the GLE is permitted to tow 3.5 tonnes. And the Trailer Assist (416,50 euro) provides support when reversing.

The ENERGIZING Package Plus (4,075.75 euro) offers particularly high levels of comfort. It bundles many of the premium equipment lines, available separately, with innovative intelligence, and includes multi-conture seats for driver and front passenger, seat climate control for driver and front passenger with seat heating and seat ventilation, the Warmth Comfort Package (for pleasant heat from all sides), the AIR-BALANCE Package (fragrancing, ionisation and cleaning the air) and six ENERGIZING Comfort programmes as well as the ENERGIZING COACH for intelligent pre-selection of ENERGIZING Comfort programmes that suit the driving situation and the driver's condition. Also on board: The ambient lighting with programme-specific lighting mood.

Comfort and support while driving: Something for all purposes

The GLE takes another step toward autonomous driving with the Driving Assistance Package (2,296.70 euro). It provides support as the situation requires for adjusting speed, steering, changing lanes and even when there is a risk of collision. Components include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Speed Limit Assist, extended automatic restart on motorways, speed adjustment based on the route with End of Tailback Function, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Emergency Lane Function; Active Brake Assist, Cornering and Cross-Traffic Function, End of Tailback Emergency Brake Function, Evasive Steering Assist; Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Exit Warning Function; PRE-SAFE® PLUS and Traffic Sign Assist. The Driving Assistance Package Plus (2,891.70 euro) offers the highest degree of comfort and safety. It additionally contains the Stop-and-Go Assist, which provides support when driving in traffic, and in cases of lateral collisions, PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side can offer additional protection.

Little helpers with a great impact: The GLE thinks for you

The fully electric and adjustable second row of seats (1,428.00 euro) promises flexibility and comfort: The load compartment can be extended flexibly, and the rear seats can be positioned for individual comfort. Via the EASY-ENTRY access aid, electric adjustment also allows access to the third row of seats for 2 people (1,082.90 euro).

Adaptive MULTIBEAM LED headlamps (1,457.75 euro) with individually controllable LEDs react quickly to the traffic situation. The functions include Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus (allows for dazzle-free permanent high beams); ULTRA RANGE high beam (increases the range to the permissible maximum); cornering light and active light function (optimally illuminates the field of vision depending on the driving situation); extended fog light, city light, country road mode, highway mode and adverse weather light.

The adaptive windscreen wiper system MAGIC VISION CONTROL (464.10 euro) ensures the perfect view – even during wiping action. Intelligent, heated supplies of water are used in the windscreen wipers. These spray the cleaning fluid onto the windscreen right in front of the heated wiper blades, exactly where it is needed.

The heated front windscreen (690.20 euro, only in the GLE 450) quickly and comfortably ensures clear vision on cold days – conveniently at the touch of a button and without any annoying windscreen scraping. The invisible heating system integrated in the windscreen quickly thaws the ice so that it can easily be removed with the windscreen wipers, and prevents condensation.

MBUX as standard: The big experience on the interior

The command "Hey Mercedes" launches the customised service that MBUX provides. Personal profiles, forecast functions as well as a WiFi hotspot completely redefine the term digital networking. As standard are the following:

  • the Widescreen Cockpit with flexible display options: The desired content can be positioned individually and the host of functions controlled intuitively thanks to touch technology. The hard-disc navigation with Live Traffic[3] and Car-to-X Communication are always on-board (whereby networked vehicles exchange safety-relevant data).
  • the Navigation Services3: The vehicle answers questions on your journey, tells you current fuel prices at your destination, the number of available parking spaces or the current weather.
  • the Vehicle Set-up App3: Settings can be changed and information called up remotely on the smartphone. This includes sending addresses to the navigation system or locking the doors.
  • Smartphone Integration: The mobile phone links up with the media system via Apple® CarPlay® and Android Auto®. This allows direct access to the smartphone's most important applications. You can also use apps from third-party service providers such as Spotify quickly and easily.
  • Vehicle Monitoring3: If required, the smartphone allows you to see where the vehicle is located at any time and you can even determine what area the vehicle is allowed to enter. You will also immediately receive information on undesired movements.
  • the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call System (with an unlimited term): Via a communications module with its own sim card, an emergency call is initiated when an accident is detected, and this can reduce the time it takes for the emergency services to arrive. The emergency call can also be initiated manually to organise help.
  • the communications module (LTE) for the use of Mercedes me connect services (with an unlimited term): It connects the vehicle with the internet. Two mobile phone antennas and an LTE-compatible SIM card ensure a fast connection.

The Burmester® surround sound system (1,011.50 euro) ensures exceptional sound with 13 loud speakers and a total system output of 590 W. The Burmester® high-end 3D surround sound system (5,831 euro) with 25 speakers and a total system output of 1,590 W offers an even better sound experience. Here the loudspeakers in the roof liner compose a three-dimensional sound.

AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+

 

La gamma si amplia ancora, ma verso l'alto: GLE 53 AMG 4Matic+ spinta dal 6 cilindri in linea, 3.0 litri e sovralimentato con turbocompressore + elettrocompressore, in grado di erogare 435 CV e 520 Nm che sono trasmessi al suolo attraverso la trasmissione automatica TCT a 9 rapporti e la trazione integrale 4Matic.

A questo plus si aggiunge il motore elettrico (elettro-generatore) Mercedes EQ che fornisce altri 16 kW / 22 CV e 250 Nm, alimentando il sistema elettrico a 48V. 

Le prestazioni della GLE 53 AMG 4Matic+ sono di assoluto rilievo: abbiamo uno 0-100 km/h in 5.3 secondi ed una velocità massima di 250 km/h.

Abbiamo programmi di guida specifici AMG così come l'estetica è affidata ad un modello AMG: difatti troviamo la tipica griglia Mercedes-Benz con le 15 barre verticali.

 

Tecnica:

L'aver eliminato il convenzionale sistema alternatore + motorino d'avviamento, ha permesso di eliminare la cinghia dei servizi, così da rendere il nuovo 6 cilindri in linea molto compatto, avendo così la possibilità di installare il sistema di post-trattamento dei fumi in una zona molto vicina al turbocompressore.

Affalterbach. Mercedes-AMG launches its performance offering for the new GLE generation with the GLE 53 4MATIC+ (combined fuel consumption: 9.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 212 g/km)[1]. The basis for the signature AMG driving dynamics is provided by the 320 kW (435 hp) 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine, the fully variable all-wheel drive, the agile 9-speed automatic transmission, the AMG-specific drive programs and the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL air suspension based on AMG RIDE CONTROL+ with electro-mechanical roll stabilisation. Thanks to the AMG-specific radiator grille with 15 vertical strips, it is immediately obvious that it is part of the AMG family. Numerous options such as the selectable performance exhaust system and the AMG steering wheel buttons make the driving experience even more emotional.

"As the inventors of the performance SUV, it is important to us to continue to be at the top with the new generation of the GLE when it comes to innovations, driving dynamics, individuality and design. The first step here is the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+, with which we offer our customers more power than the predecessor model as well as our fully variable all-wheel technology. Always staying nicely in line: six-cylinder engine with twin charging

Its centrepiece is the electrified 3.0-litre engine featuring twin-turbocharging and an electric auxiliary compressor. The 6-cylinder in-line engine generates 320 kW (435 hp) and delivers maximum torque of 520 Nm. Its EQ Boost starter generator briefly provides an additional 16 kW of output plus 250 Nm of torque and additionally feeds the 48 V on-board electrical system.

The EQ Boost starter-alternator combines a starter motor and alternator in a powerful electric motor and is fitted between the engine and transmission. This innovation as well as the intelligent charging via an electric auxiliary compressor and an exhaust gas turbocharger all have the same goal: to enhance the hallmark AMG performance and driving dynamics, but also to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. And this move has been a successful one: The GLE 53 4MATIC+ accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds and achieves an electronically limited speed of 250 km/h.

It really turns on the pressure: electric auxiliary compressor

The electric auxiliary compressor builds up a high level of boost pressure without any delays until the big exhaust gas turbocharger kicks in. As a result the 3.0-litre engine reacts extremely spontaneously and provides a dynamic response without turbo lag. An additional bonus is the high level of refinement of the six-cylinder in-line engine.

It will be electrifying: 48 V on-board electrical system

But the EQ Boost starter-alternator can do even more. It also provides the 48 V on-board electrical system with electricity. The conventional 12 V electrical system is likewise supplied from the new network – by means of a DC/DC converter. The 48 V battery increases the overall battery capacity in the vehicle, which allows supplying more electrical energy. An additional advantage: the same power requires only a quarter of the current of a conventional system. The result is that the wiring can be thinner and therefore lighter, which indirectly contributes to saving fuel. The existing 12 V system supplies power to consumers such as lights, cockpit, infotainment displays and control units. 

It also does hybrid: EQ Boost starter-alternator

The EQ Boost starter generator is a key component of the 48 V system and not only serves as an alternator, but is also responsible for hybrid functions. This allows fuel savings that were previously reserved for high-voltage hybrid technology. For the first time, the EQ Boost starter-alternator is also responsible for idle speed control.

The hybrid functions include boost with 16 kW of output and 250 Nm of torque, energy recovery, shifting of the load point, gliding mode and the virtually imperceptible restarting of the engine with the start/stop function.

Because the belt drive for ancillary components on the front edge of the engine is omitted, the installation length of the new six-cylinder engine is also significantly reduced compared with conventional six-cylinder engines. This creates space for an exhaust gas aftertreatment system mounted near the engine, which is therefore particularly efficient. The particulate filter is the only part of the emission control system that is under the floor.

A special acoustic experience comes courtesy of the optional, selectable AMG Performance exhaust system. The variable adjustable exhaust flaps give the option to change the sound of the vehicle at the press of a button. Depending on the drive program, the sound characteristics change from unobtrusive comfort through to maximum emotive appeal.

Speedy shifting: AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed automatic transmission (TCT = Torque-Clutch Transmission) ensures emotional gear shifting with extremely short shift times. It is optimally tuned to the engine and promises agile pulling off typical of AMG as well as speedy shifting – regardless of an automatic or manual transmission via the steering wheel shift paddles. Upshifts or downshifts are implemented instantly. Especially in the "Sport+" and in manual driving modes, the transmission is very responsive. Multiple downshifting enables fast bursts of speed, while the double-clutching function makes shift operations acoustically more emotional. 

Unlimited grip: AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive

The new GLE 53 4MATIC+ is equipped for maximum traction and dynamics with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. The intelligent steering variably links the permanently driven rear axle with the front axle and continually calculates the optimum torque distribution – depending on the driving situation and the driver's wishes. The all-wheel drive thus improves longitudinal dynamics as well as traction and lateral dynamics. The outcome: yet more powerful acceleration from a standing position and for short sprints.

Total stabilisation: AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension

Redeveloped in Affalterbach, the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension based on AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension forms the basis for a driving experience that is characterised by a high level of agility, neutral cornering behaviour and optimal traction. A new feature makes a significant contribution to the AMG-specific tuning for high levels of driving dynamics: the active roll stabilisation with two electro-mechanic actuators working independently of one another on the front and rear axle as well as fully variable torque distribution.

Not only does the system reduce rolling movements when cornering, it also enables more precise tuning of the cornering and load change properties. In addition, it increases the drive comfort when driving straight ahead because stimuli are balanced out by one-sided road bumps, for example. Movements in the body can be actively and optimally adjusted to the driving conditions. This means that the AMG-typical form of the driving characteristics regarding dynamics, precision and response can be even more intensively experienced by the driver.

Another benefit in comparison to the usual hydraulic-based systems is the significantly faster response. The AMG control can adapt the driving status up to 1000 times per second. The sampling rate is thus a mere one-thousandth of a second. There is also the low weight of the components in comparison to the usual solutions. 

Especially long breath: air suspension with continuously adjustable damping

The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with particularly sporty spring/damper set-up and adaptive adjustable damping ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) combines outstanding driving dynamics with high ride comfort. The damping characteristics can be preselected in three modes, "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+", allowing a significantly more noticeable differentiation between excellent long-distance comfort and sporty driving dynamics. In addition, there are two new levels for off-road use - "Trail" and "Sand".

Thanks to pneumatic self-levelling at the front and rear axle, the GLE 53 4MATIC+ maintains a constant ride height regardless of the vehicle load. The vehicle level is generally lowered by 15 mm in the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes "Sport" and "Sport+". In the "Comfort" drive programme, the vehicle is lowered by 15 mm from a speed of 120 km/h. This reduces aerodynamic drag and, in turn, fuel consumption. In addition, handling stability is improved thanks to a lower centre of gravity. In order to increase the ground clearance on poor road surfaces or on ramps, the vehicle body level can be raised by up to 55 mm at the touch of a button with the engine running – both with the car stationary and in motion.

Everything under control: Sports steering and high-performance braking system

The electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering has a variable ratio. It wins over customers with AMG-specific rack and pinion ratio and precise feedback. In addition, steering power assistance is adjusted in the two stages "Comfort" or "Sport". The configuration is automatically activated based on the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programme. They can optionally be personalised at any time in the "Individual" drive programme.

The large sized high-performance braking system reliably slows down the performance SUV even with heavier loads and short braking distances. 400 x 36 mm internally ventilated and perforated integral brake disks are used on the front axle as well as 2-piston fixed callipers painted silver with black AMG lettering. On the rear, the internally ventilated integral brake disks measure 345 x 25 mm and have a 1-piston floating calliper.

Select your programme: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

The GLE 53 4MATIC+ has seven drive programmes: The levels "Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+" and "Individual" are complemented by two off-road-specific settings: "Trail" and "Sand". AMG DYNAMIC SELECT adapts important parameters such as the responsiveness of the engine and transmission, the characteristic curve of the accelerator and steering, the suspension damping or even the vehicle's sound. Selected using the paddle in the centre console or the AMG steering wheel buttons, the programmes are then visualised in the instrument cluster and on the multimedia display.

  • "Slippery": optimised for slippery road conditions, with reduced power and a flat torque curve for a driving impression oriented toward stability.
  • "Comfort": comfortable and fuel-efficient driving, e.g. thanks to early upshifts. Suspension and steering are set up for an emphasis on comfort.
  • "Sport": sporty characteristics thanks to a more agile response to the driver's accelerator pedal input, shorter shift times, earlier downshifts and significantly more emotive gearshifts owing to double de-clutching. A more dynamic suspension and steering set-up.
  • "Sport+": extremely sporty characteristics thanks to an even more agile throttle response, increased acoustic emphasis on double de-clutching during downshifts as well as selective torque control on upshifts with cylinder suppression for optimal shift times. Increased idle speed for faster pulling away. An even more dynamic set-up for suspension, steering and drivetrain.
  • "Individual": individual adjustment of the drive system, transmission, AMG DYNAMICS, suspension and exhaust system.
  • "Trail": safe driving at maximum performance on soft, muddy or slippery ground.
  • "Sand": sporty set-up for the best possible grip and steerability on sandy slopes and in desert dunes.

AMG DYNAMICS vehicle dynamics control is integrated into the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes. In the "Basic", "Advanced" and "Pro" levels, it influences e.g. the control strategies of the ESP ® (Electronic Stability Program) or the all-wheel drive. The intelligent pilot control anticipates the desired vehicle behaviour based on the driver's actions and the sensor data. The spectrum ranges from extremely stable to highly dynamic. Additionally there are the "Traction" and "Slide" levels in the off-road "Trail" and "Sand" drive programmes when the ESP® is deactivated.

Quite the eye-catcher: exterior with AMG-specific radiator grille

The appearance of the GLE 53 4MATIC+ captivates thanks to its exclusivity, powerful sportiness and progressive dominance. Thanks to the AMG-specific radiator grille with 15 vertical chromed strips, it is immediately obvious that it is part of the AMG family. Equally striking is the star in the double ring, the narrow headlamps and the striking A-Wing in the front apron. Apart from the slats in the outer air inlets and the trim element on the A-Wing, the front splitter is also silver chrome-plated. The wheel arches in the same colour as the car provide space for the large wheels – mounted with 20-inch light alloy wheels with AMG lettering as standard. There are seven rim variants optionally available from 20 to 22 inch.

The horizontal chromed diffuser strip in the pronounced rear apron and the special exhaust system with two chromed twin tailpipes underline the powerful appearance from the rear and emphasis the effect of the width. The optional AMG Night Package further enhances the vehicle. It includes heat-insulating, dark tinted windows as well as front splitter, trim elements in the front apron and the outer air inlets, mirror covers, window frames, roof railing, diffuser and tailpipe trim in refined black.

The colour of love: interior design with red accents

The GLE 53 4MATIC+ can be recognised by the characteristic red colour accents. This starts with the seats, fitted as standard with covers in ARTICO / microfibre DINAMICA man-made leather black with red contrasting topstitching. They not only offer optimal lateral support, but also have an AMG-specific design and "AMG" badge in the front seat backrest. The top part of the instrument panel is covered in ARTICO man-made leather. The black roof liner and the trim elements in aluminium brushed with light longitudinal grain underscore the sporty appearance.

Further elements to individualise the interior include different leather seat covers and a wide range of high-quality trim elements, among other items. The carbon AMG trim elements impart a particularly sporty feel to the interior.

An SUV highlight is the optional, foldable third row of seats, which make the GLE 53 4MATIC+ a seven-seater. Thanks to the Easy Entry function of the fully electrically adjustable second seat row, the two rearmost passengers can conveniently reach their seats.

Stylishly chic: AMG-specific displays in the MBUX system

The innovative operating and display concept MBUX is included as standard in the GLE 53 4MATIC+ and contains numerous AMG-specific content. With the widescreen cockpit, the instrument cluster and touchscreen multimedia display optically combine into one unit. Numerous functions can also be activated via the intelligent voice-operated control "Hey Mercedes". The optional MBUX Interior Assist also allows intuitive, natural operation of different comfort and MBUX functions by movement recognition and gestures.

The instrument cluster has its own specific details such as the AMG start-up menu and the four selectable styles: "Classic", "Sport", AMG exclusive "Supersport" and "Discreet". When the AMG-specific DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes "Trail" and "Sand" are activated, off-road-specific settings such as slope, incline and level can be selected and displayed on the instrument cluster. Rocker switches are embedded in the centre console for displaying and controlling the drive programmes, transmission, suspension, ESP® and exhaust system.

Hands sitting pretty on the steering wheel: AMG Performance steering wheel

The AMG Performance steering wheel in black Nappa leather with red contrasting topstitching and red 12-o'clock marking combines maximum functionality, high-quality haptics and perfect ergonomics. Apart from the aluminium shift paddles, it also impresses thanks to the touch control buttons which are intuitive to operate. The entire infotainment system can be controlled with swiping finger movements.

Innovative steering wheel buttons optionally enhance the steering wheel with a round controller with an integrated display beneath the right-hand steering-wheel spoke, plus two vertically positioned colour display buttons with switches beneath the left-hand steering-wheel spoke.

Drive better: improve your skills with AMG TRACK PACE

With the optional extra AMG TRACK PACE, MBUX is enhanced with a virtual engineer which enables up to 80 vehicle-specific data as well as times on closed routes outside of the public traffic area to be recorded and analysed in detail. Many of these values can be displayed if desired on the widescreen cockpit or in the optional head-up display in real-time. After putting in some fast laps, the driver can use the data to analyse and, if necessary, improve their driving skills. In addition, acceleration and deceleration values (e.g. 0-100 km/h, ¼ mile, 100-0 km/h) can be measured and saved.

The driver can record any circuits and open circuits him or herself and can save them for later vehicle data recording. Thanks to a newly developed algorithm which determines the vehicle position as precisely as possible, AMG TRACK PACE even detects when the circuit has been left or it has been shortened. This is done using GPS data as well as the sensors available in the vehicle (acceleration, gyroscope, steering angle, wheel speeds).

The additional smartphone app enhances AMG TRACK PACE on these circuits with functionalities such as video recording of the journey, individualisation options for the recorded videos and photos as well as sharing the experiences on social networks.

Sporty fragrance: fuel for the senses

There is an exclusive fragrance for the interior, named "AMG#63" as part of the AIR-BALANCE package. It is an inspiring, sporty scent to match the spirit of the performance sports car brand.

Affalterbach.  With the new Performance models based on the GLE, Mercedes-AMG is continuing a precisely 20 year-old tradition: in 1999 the ML 55 as the progenitor based on the then M-Class was the top model in the range with its 255 kW (347 hp) V8 engine. The same applies to its current successor in the guise of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 4MATIC+ (combined fuel consumption: 11.5-11.4 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 262-261 g/km)[1]. The top-of-the-line performer of the model series is naturally taking to the starting line with state-of-the-art engine technology: the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine generating 420 kW (571 hp) in the GLE model series and 450 kW (612 hp) in the S version is combined for the first time with the EQ Boost starter-alternator. This is accompanied by an additional electric output of 16 kW (22 hp), a 48-volt on-board electrical system, cylinder shut-off and petrol particulate filter for optimum efficiency. Furthermore, the fully variable all-wheel drive, the air suspension with adaptive damping adjustment and active roll stabilisation and the extremely fast-shifting TCT 9G transmission further move the limits of vehicle dynamics upwards. On top of this there are the advantages of a luxury SUV: good all-round visibility, plenty of space for passengers and luggage, high-quality materials and the brand's very latest driving assistance, infotainment and connectivity functions. Even more versatility is provided by the improved off-road capabilities with the two additional drive programs "Trail" and "Sand", as well as the variable vehicle level. This is where extreme sportiness, first-class off-road characteristics and absolute day-to-day suitability come together.

With the EQ Boost starter-alternator for the first time: the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine

The 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine in the new GLE 63 is fitted for the first time in both output variants (420 kW/571 hp and 450 kW/612 hp) with an integrated EQ Boost starter-alternator. It combines a starter motor and an alternator in a single, powerful electric motor and is integrated between the engine and the transmission to save space. The additional 16 kW (22 hp) of output plus 250 Nm of torque which can be called upon temporarily, does not only enable more spontaneous moving-off characteristics. This is because moreover, this innovative component supplies the 48-volt on-board electrical system, is used as a power generator and also performs hybrid functions. These include boost, recuperate, load point shift, gliding and the virtually imperceptible restarting of the engine with the start/stop function. For the first time, the EQ Boost starter-alternator is also responsible for idle speed control. This allows fuel savings that were previously reserved for high-voltage hybrid technology.

The AMG 4.0-litre V8 engine works with the well-proven twin turbocharging, where the two exhaust-gas turbochargers are arranged not on the exterior, but between the cylinder banks. The advantages of the "hot inside V" are the compact engine design and the immediate response of the exhaust-gas turbochargers. These are implemented using twin-scroll technology to make optimum use of the exhaust gas flow and improve the response even further.

Spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, the all-aluminium crankcase, the four-valve-per-cylinder design with camshaft adjustment, air-water charge air cooling, alternator management, the ECO start/stop function and the gliding mode have all been retained.

Improved efficiency: the intelligent AMG Cylinder Management

For increased efficiency, Mercedes-AMG has also equipped the V8 engines with cylinder shut-off. In the partial-load range, cylinders two, three, five and eight are deactivated, which crucially reduces the fuel consumption. When the driver has selected the "Comfort" drive program, the cylinder deactivation system is available in the wide engine speed range from 1000 to 3250 rpm. A special display in the instrument cluster indicates whether the cylinder deactivation system is in use and whether the engine is presently operating in four or eight-cylinder mode. The transition between these two operating states is immediate, fast and torque-neutral, so the passengers do not have to relinquish any comfort.

In the most powerful AMG GT S variant, the eight-cylinder has active engine mounts. They resolve the conflicting aims of achieving as soft a connection as possible to the powertrain for high comfort, and as rigid a connection as possible for optimum driving dynamics, by steplessly and quickly adapting their rigidity to the respective driving conditions.

For heightened sportiness: air suspension with continuously adjustable damping

The standard AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension and the adaptively adjustable ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) configured for the characteristics of an SUV combine outstanding agility and excellent vehicle dynamics with maximum traction and superb day-to-day comfort. The damping characteristics can be preselected in three stages - "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport+", allowing a much more obvious distinction between high long-distance comfort and sporty vehicle dynamics.

Thanks to pneumatic self-levelling, the new GLE 63 4MATIC+ maintains a constant ride height regardless of the vehicle load. This can be adjusted depending on the driving mode, or manually using a rocker switch in the centre console. The vehicle level is generally lowered by 10 mm in the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs "Sport", "Sport+" and "RACE" (S variant only). In the "Comfort" driving mode, the vehicle is lowered by 10 mm from a speed of 120 km/h, and raised back to normal level when the speed falls below 70 km/h. This reduces aerodynamic drag and therefore fuel consumption. In addition, handling stability is improved thanks to a lower centre of gravity. 

In the drive programs "Trail" and "Sand", the suspension is raised by 55 mm to increase ground clearance on poor surfaces, and automatically lowered to normal level when the speed reaches 70 km/h. This function can also be controlled using the rocker switch.

Agile and precise: AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL roll stabilisation

The AMG-specific configuration for high vehicle dynamics is greatly assisted by the active roll stabilisation system ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL on a 48-volt basis. This precisely compensates for body movements. This ensures that even in sporty situations near the limits, the handling remains precisely controllable and extremely direct. The system uses two independently operating, electromechanical actuators at the front and rear axles, each with an integrated planetary gear. This means that the stabilisation system not only reduces body roll when cornering, but also allows more precise tuning of the cornering and load cycle properties. In addition, it increases ride comfort when driving in a straight line because stimuli by one-sided road bumps are balanced out, for example. Body movements can be actively and optimally adapted to the driving status, which intensifies the driving experience.

Another benefit compared with the usual hydraulic-based systems is the significantly faster response. The AMG control system can adapt the driving status to the conditions within milliseconds. There is also the low weight of the components compared with the usual solutions.

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution

The performance-oriented all-wheel drive system continuously ensures the best possible ratio of dynamism, traction and efficiency. An electromechanically controlled clutch connects the permanently driven rear axle variably to the front axle. The best possible torque split is continuously computed according to the driving conditions and driver's input. The transition from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive and vice versa is seamless, as the intelligent control is integrated into the overall vehicle system architecture. Alongside traction and lateral dynamics, the all-wheel drive also improves the longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration. The influencing factors for torque distribution are not only the driving speed, the lateral and longitudinal acceleration and the steering angle, but also the difference in rotational speed between the individual wheels and the gear selected.

The all-wheel drive is controlled depending on the selected stage of the 3-stage Electronic Stability Program ESP® – from sporty with a focus on safety to highly dynamic. The 4ETS dynamic handling control system further enhances handling safety and agility, in particular on slippery surfaces or on surfaces with different friction coefficients. It uses brake interventions to keep individual driven wheels from spinning when starting off or accelerating. At the same time the differential locking effect enables the drive torque to be shifted to the wheels that are not spinning.

More traction and dynamism: the locking differential

To further improve traction and dynamism, the GLE 63 and GLE 63 S have an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle as standard. The slip is thus suppressed at the inner wheel on bends, ensuring optimum grip and maximum handling safety. The driver is therefore able to accelerate out of corners earlier and with more power thanks to the improved traction. The vehicle remains more stable when braking from high speed, while the limited-slip differential also improves traction when accelerating from a standstill.

Direct and immediate: AMG speed-sensitive sports steering

The electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering has a variable ratio. It impresses with its precise feedback thanks to the AMG-specific rack-and-pinion steering with a variable ratio. The steering assistance is assigned to the various stages of the AMG DYNAMICS system. The configuration in "Basic" and "Advanced" is comfort-oriented. In "Pro" and "Master", a configuration is programmed that supports a sporty driving style and ensures more road feedback.

Good control and fade-resistant: the AMG high-performance braking systems

In line with the high output values and their associated performance, the new GLE 63 models have a large-dimensioned high-performance brake system with 6-piston fixed brake callipers and 400 x 38 mm brake discs at the front, plus single-piston floating brake callipers and 370 x 32 mm discs at the rear. The S variant is characterised by red brake callipers, while the base variant has grey brake callipers.

As an option a high-performance ceramic brake system with bronze-coloured 6-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating brake callipers at the rear can be ordered, saving weight compared with the compound discs and thus reducing the unsprung masses. Further advantages are their high overall and fading stability under high stress. The brake system also scores highly with a long operating life and particularly fast responses.

Fast and agile: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission is specially tuned to the requirements of the eight-cylinder engine in the GLE 63. The systematic further development of hardware and software has made it possible to further optimise the reaction times. This means that automatic and manual shift commands can be implemented more quickly than ever before. Various reinforcement measures also ensure durability and performance with the high torque generated by the V8 engine. The extensively tailored software enables extremely short shift times and fast multiple downshifts and delivers an especially emotive gearshifting experience thanks to the double-declutching function. Gear changes are performed with no interruption in tractive power. Dynamic acceleration and very short shift times are just as available as a fuel-efficient driving style ‑ depending on the selected mode.

Highlights of the transmission:

  • adaptation of the shift characteristics to the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program
  • in manual mode "M" the transmission responds directly to manual shift commands by the driver – the powertrain responds precisely and executes the commands almost instantly
  • the temporary M mode allows an immediate change to manual mode "M" – merely by using the shift paddles
  • automatic double-declutching function when downshifting: this effect is automatically active in drive programs "Sport", "Sport+" and "RACE" (S variant only)
  • the ECO start/stop function is automatically active in the "Comfort" drive program
  • the "gliding" function can be individually activated in "Individual" mode

Driving pleasure to the power of seven: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT and AMG DYNAMICS

The seven DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, RACE (S variant only), Trail and Sand allow a very varied driving experience with a wide spread between maximum comfort and agile sportiness. The modes modify key parameters, such as the response of the engine, transmission, suspension and steering.

  • "Comfort": comfortable and fuel-efficient driving, e.g. thanks to early upshifts. Suspension and steering are set up for an emphasis on comfort.
  • "Sport": Sporty characteristics thanks to more agile response to accelerator pedal commands, shorter shift times, earlier and more precise downshifts owing to double-declutching. More dynamic suspension setup.
  • "Sport+": extremely sporty characteristics thanks to an even more agile throttle response, double-declutching on downshifts and targeted torque interventions on upshifts with cylinder deactivation for optimised shift times. Increased idle speed for faster pulling away. An even more dynamic setup for suspension, steering and powertrain.
  • "Individual": individual adjustment of the drive system, transmission, AMG DYNAMICS, suspension and exhaust system. In addition, the gliding function is available in the "Reduced" and "Moderate" drive settings.
  • "RACE" (standard in the S variant): the "RACE" drive program is designed for highly dynamic driving on closed race circuits. In this program, all of the parameters are configured for maximum performance.
  • "Trail": safe driving at maximum performance on soft, muddy or slippery ground. The suspension is raised to a higher level (55 mm more ground clearance). From 70 km/h the suspension is automatically lowered again.
  • "Sand": the adjustments to the suspension and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive are made for sporty driving on loose, sandy surfaces. The suspension is raised to a higher level (55 mm more ground clearance). From 70 km/h the suspension is automatically lowered again.

The drive modes are linked to the AMG DYNAMICS agility control, which means that the handling characteristics can be even more closely matched with different requirements and driving conditions. Behind the umbrella term AMG DYNAMICS are the agility functions "Basic", "Advanced", "Pro" and "Master", whose functions are automatically selected by the respective drive program. Additionally there are the "Traction" and "Slide" levels in the off-road "Trail" and "Sand" drive programs when the ESP® is deactivated.

Parameters relevant to driving, such as the response of the engine and suspension or the control thresholds of the completely redeveloped ESP®, are intelligently adapted according to the drive program. The spectrum ranges from extremely safety-oriented to highly dynamic. The "Master" mode stored in the RACE drive program ensures optimum agility and brings out the high driving dynamics potential to optimum effect - for example through higher yaw rates and a faster response from the accelerator pedal, gearshift system, electronically controlled rear axle locking differential or brake force distribution of the all-wheel drive system.

Irrespective of the drive program, the driver can use the buttons in the centre console or the steering wheel buttons to directly select manual transmission mode, the favoured suspension level and also the exhaust system, for instance.

Exterior design – muscular and distinctive

The design idiom of the exterior embodies sheer energy and Performance Luxury. The AMG-specific radiator grille with vertical louvres reaffirms membership of the AMG model family, while the dynamic arrow-shape of the front section with its smaller angle of approach emphasises the distinctive proportions. As a typical feature of the Performance models, the front apron in a dynamic jet-wing design is painted in the vehicle colour and has black air intakes. Imposing powerdomes in the bonnet and the front splitter in silver chrome emphasise the sharper all-round design.

The side skirts, exterior mirror housings and flared wheel arches are painted in the vehicle colour, and seamlessly blend into the muscular overall look. Different wheel/tyre combinations cover all on and off-road requirements. The base model is shod with 20-inch light-alloy wheels with AMG lettering as standard, while the S variant comes with 21-inch wheels ex-factory. Other wheel variants with diameters from 21 to 22 inches are optionally available.

The newly designed rear apron with AMG-specific details such as a striking diffuser and a trim strip in silver shadow visually accentuate the vehicle's width. The special AMG exhaust system with two rectangular twin tailpipe trim elements (with characteristic corrugation for the GLE 63 S) and the roof edge spoiler round off the sporty look.

Further individualisation options are available in the AMG Night package. This includes heat-insulating, dark-tinted windows and also the front splitter, front and rear apron trim, inserts in the side skirts, mirror caps and window frames in dignified black. Plus the twin tailpipe trim elements are finished in black chrome. 

Interior design – progressive elegance and robust ambience

The high-quality interior is characterised by a systematically sporty ambience with a dynamic and exclusive touch. The standard AMG seats are upholstered in nappa leather, provide optimum lateral support and have an AMG-specific seat pattern layout with an "AMG" badge in the front backrests. Other leather variants are optionally available. Individually adjustable ambient lighting comes as standard. The second seat row is optionally available with full electric adjustment.

AMG-specific interior appointments and controls lend the cockpit a hallmark AMG atmosphere and support sporty, precise handling. The latest generation, three-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles impresses with its optimum driver-oriented ergonomics. In the base model the steering wheel rim is lined in black nappa leather, and in the S variant in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre, in each case with a black 12-o'clock marking. Further options include AMG steering wheel buttons for particularly fast operation of dynamically relevant parameters.

The centre console has an AMG-specific control panel with additional switches with which the 3-stage ESP®, manual transmission mode, the adaptive damping adjustment, the optional AMG Performance exhaust system and the suspension level can be controlled.

Alongside the AMG brushed stainless steel sports pedals with rubber studs, door sill panels and black floor mats with "AMG" lettering accentuate the sporty look. A wide range of high-quality interior trim elements is available for further individualisation of the interior. AMG trim elements in carbon fibre lend a particularly sporty touch to the interior.

With AMG-specific displays: the MBUX infotainment system

The innovative MBUX control and display concept in the new Performance SUVs creates an even closer bond between the vehicle, driver and passengers. At the same time, the latest version of the infotainment system contributes to the great day-to-day practicality. Emotive displays such as the particularly striking Supersport mode with a central rev counter and 3D-look scales lend visual depth to the instrument and accentuate the exclusivity.

Whether it's operated with the touchpad, Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel, by voice control or gesture control: the control concept is both versatile and flexible. Thanks to the innovative voice control – activated with the keyword "Hey Mercedes" – the AI software recognises and understands practically all commands common in infotainment and vehicle control – even when spoken indirectly.

With the four AMG-specific display styles "Modern Classic", "Sporty", "Discreet" or "Supersport", the vehicle functions are directly visualised on the instrument cluster on the left side and on the touchscreen display on the right. Visually, the two displays under one shared glass cover blend into a Widescreen Cockpit and as a central element consequently emphasise the horizontal orientation of the interior design.

In the “Supersport" mode, there is also extensive additional information specific to AMG, such as a prompt borrowed from motorsport to shift up in manual transmission mode. Via the AMG menu, the driver can call up various special displays:

  • Gear display ‑ with yellow "M" symbol in manual mode
  • Warm-Up menu ‑ engine and transmission oil temperature
  • Set-Up menu ‑ AMG DYNAMIC SELECT settings
  • G-Meter – longitudinal and lateral acceleration forces
  • Race-Timer – stopwatch, lap and sector times
  • Engine data – output and torque, engine oil and transmission oil temperature 

The newly designed visualisations in the multimedia display enable further vehicle functions to be experienced even better, e.g. with an animated presentation of the driving assistance, vehicle and communication systems, and the drive programs. When the AMG-specific DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs "Trail" and "Sand" are activated, off-road-specific settings such as gradient, incline and differential lock can be selected and displayed in the media display.

Increased comfort is assured by the optional ENERGIZING package Plus. It bundles many of the premium equipment items and includes multi-contour seats for driver and front passenger, seat climate control for driver and front passenger (with seat heating and seat ventilation), the Warmth Comfort package, the AIR-BALANCE package (fragrancing, ionisation and cleaning the air) and six ENERGIZING Comfort programmes as well as the ENERGIZING COACH for intelligent pre-selection of ENERGIZING Comfort programmes that suit the driving situation and the driver's condition. Also on board: the ambient lighting with program-specific lighting moods.

Comfort and support while driving: something for all purposes

The optional Driving Assistance package supports the driver on a situational basis, with speed adaptation, steering, lane changes and even when there is a risk of collision. Components include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Speed Limit Assist, extended automatic restart on motorways, speed adjustment based on the route with End of Tailback Function, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Emergency Lane Function; Active Brake Assist, Cornering and Cross-Traffic Function, End of Tailback Emergency Brake Function, Evasive Steering Assist; Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Exit Warning Function; PRE-SAFE® PLUS and Traffic Sign Assist.

The Driving Assistance package Plus offers an exceptionally high level of comfort and safety. It additionally includes Active Stop-and-Go Assist, which provides support when driving in traffic, while in the event of a side collision, PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side can offer additional protection.

La pratica è quando tutto funziona ma non si sa come.

Spesso si finisce con il coniugare la teoria con la pratica: non funziona niente e non si sa il perché.

Beh... pensavo peggio!

Ed invece non è male... anzi mi piace!

Mi spaventa quelle che possono essere le versioni con pacchetto estetico AMG, perché questa presentata con l’estetica off-road è decisamente equilibrata come elementi di design.

Comunque quel schermo e la sua posizione non mi convincerà mai..., sarà hi tech però non proprio elegantissima come soluzione...

mi piace, ma ha un po' l'aria di auto giocattolo, forse data dai passaruota cosí sporgenti e le gomme enormi. Un po' perplesso per la forma delle luci posteriori, invece gli interni mi piacciono. Ha una sua personalità, e non è cosa scontata ora come ora (soprattutto da quando la x5 è diventata una mega Fiesta)

Posto che trovo che sia un passo avanti notevole rispetto all'attuale (per me indigeribile), non amo il design fine a sé stesso, quindi boccio sonoramente la finta presa d'aria anteriore e le finte bocchette al lato destro dello schermone.

 

Molto positivo il lavoro di ripulitura, é una delle prove piü convincenti del design Mercedes recente.
