  6. DaimlerChrysler Creates New Management Model Integration leads to organization that is faster, more flexible, leaner and more efficient Together with other ongoing efficiency programs, G&A costs are expected to be reduced by EUR 1.5 billion per year, G&A staff reduced by up to 20 percent over three years Supervisory Board agrees to realignment of functions within the Board of Management Teleconference to explain initiative will begin at 2:30 pm CET (8:30 am EST) Stuttgart, Germany, January 24, 2006 DaimlerChrysler today introduced a new management model designed to enhance competitiveness and promote further profitable growth. The new model will further integrate the company’s functions, focus the operations within DaimlerChrysler on core processes, and encourage internal collaboration. Moreover, it will reduce redundancies and remove management layers. “Our objective in taking these actions is to create a lean, agile structure, with streamlined and stable processes that will unleash DaimlerChrysler’s full potential,” said Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management (BoM) of DaimlerChrysler AG. ”We’re going to build on a strong product portfolio.” In 2005 alone, DaimlerChrysler launched 17 new products, giving it one of the youngest product lines in the automotive industry. The company plans to continue its aggressive level of investment. “Over the last several years, we focused on our automotive business and started to streamline the core processes in our divisions,” said Zetsche. “But to safeguard our future in this competitive global industry, we need to apply that same equation across all general and administrative (G&A) functions with the added dimension of adapting to the needs of our business.” The preliminary work for this new model began in mid-2005 with a high-level internal team. The program focuses on the company organization and the processes that are used throughout the DaimlerChrysler enterprise. Among structural changes is a consolidation and integration of G&A functions, such as Finance and Controlling, Human Resources and Strategy. These areas will be centralized to report to the respective head of that function throughout the entire company. Redundancies between staff functions at the corporate and operating levels will be eliminated, thereby reducing the complexity of the organization. A more integrated G&A organization will result in more consistent processes, and reporting and decision-making will become shorter, faster and more efficient. “We want our divisions to concentrate on the automotive core processes - development, production and sales,” added Zetsche. The consolidation of corporate functions will occur throughout the company. The earlier decision for Dieter Zetsche to serve a dual role as Chairman of the Board of Management and concurrently as Head of the Mercedes Car Group, will now be reflected in the organizational structure as well. BoM members Bodo Uebber and Ruediger Grube will also continue to have dual roles: Uebber for Finance and Controlling, as well as DaimlerChrysler Financial Services; Grube for Corporate Development (including Information Technology) and DaimlerChrysler’s participation in EADS (European Aeronautic Defense and Space company). That will effectively reduce the number of BoM members to nine (from 12 about one year ago). The address on the corporate letterhead will also change. The German BoM members currently based in Stuttgart-Moehringen will relocate in May 2006, along with their staffs, to Stuttgart-Untertuerkheim, and therefore closer to production. This means the DaimlerChrysler headquarters function will be located in Stuttgart-Untertuerkheim and Auburn Hills, Michigan. Several support functions and non-G&A functions will stay in Stuttgart-Moehringen. On the basis of the new structure, the company will standardize the most important processes within and across divisions, according to best-practice criteria. Cooperation between the Mercedes Car Group and the Chrysler Group will become markedly closer, according to Zetsche, but “a clear priority within this effort will continue to further strengthen brand identity. You can expect to see more examples of collaboration especially when we can transfer knowledge between the groups, much as Chrysler Group tapped the rear-wheel-drive expertise of Mercedes-Benz in the development of the Chrysler 300C. “Beyond that,” added Zetsche, “you will also see more examples of clearly defined ‘project houses’ where engineers from different divisions work together for the benefit of the whole company.” A current example is the joint project to develop hybrids, where Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler engineers are working side-by-side (with General Motors and BMW specialists). This joint team is creating a new two-mode hybrid system that will power future vehicles from the brands of both divisions. A second example is the collaboration on the world’s cleanest diesel technology called BlueTec, between Commercial Vehicles, Mercedes Car Group, and Chrysler Group. Several other organizational changes will also be made. Corporate-wide Research and Technology will be merged with product development of Mercedes Car Group under BoM member Thomas Weber. The new organization – Group Research & MCG Development -- will continue as the research center of competence for the entire company. Within this realignment, the new function will take on more responsibility for advanced engineering activities of all automotive divisions. This action is expected to reduce the time-to-market of future technologies, keep research focused on customer-relevant innovations, and eliminate redundancies. The Commercial Vehicles Division, headed by BoM member Andreas Renschler, will also undergo changes. It will focus on commercial trucks as its core business and operate under the name Truck Group, while the Bus and Van business will be reported elsewhere. The following operations will continue in Truck Group: Trucks Europe/Latin America (Mercedes-Benz), Trucks NAFTA (Freightliner, Sterling, Thomas Built Buses), Mitsubishi Fuso Bus and Truck Corporation, and Truck Product Creation. The new structure will create further synergies between the regional truck units and brands, and allow the Truck Group to accelerate its profit potential initiative called Global Excellence. Meanwhile, the financial and operating results of Bus and Van operations will be reported in a new segment called Van, Bus, Others. The direct management of the Bus and Van businesses will permit a stronger orientation toward the unique needs of customers and markets in these product segments. Due to the commonality of powertrain and components, the Bus business will report to the head of the Truck Group; the Van business to the head of the Mercedes Car Group. In total, the new management model will reduce the cost of administrative functions at DaimlerChrysler, in an effort to reach benchmark levels. Together with other ongoing efficiency programs (such as MCG’s CORE program), G&A costs are expected to be reduced by EUR 1.5 billion per year. The net effect of today’s announcement will be EUR 1 billion per year. Preparation to implement this comprehensive program will start immediately, and take three years to fully implement. It is expected to require an overall expenditure of about EUR 2 billion from 2006 to the end of 2008. Due to the elimination of redundancies, consolidation of staffs and optimization of processes, headcount will be reduced by about 6000 employees over the three-year span. This represents roughly 20 percent of general and administrative staff (30 percent at management levels). These reductions will take place in G&A functions around the world. At a meeting today, the DaimlerChrysler Supervisory Board agreed to the realignment of functions in the Board of Management, which will be implemented by March 1st, 2006. The specific measures required to put the new actions into place are expected to be presented to the Supervisory Board for approval by the end of April.
  9. http://www.carspyshots.net/zerothread?id=18248 Foto definitive Una macchina interessante dunque.
  11. Qualche dettaglio dal sito statunitense dell' Audi. 08 January 2006 AUDI ROADJET CONCEPT Debut in Detroit: Audi is taking the wraps off a study car by the name of Roadjet Concept at the North American International Automobile Show. A vehicle that blends the latest evolutionary stage of Audi's formal idiom with an entirely new space concept. The drive technology, too, represents a new departure: on the 300 bhp 3.2 FSI engine, innovative concepts produce an unprecedented synthesis of performance, liveliness and efficiency. In conjunction with a longitudinally installed engine, the Audi Roadjet Concept is moreover the first model to feature the sporty 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. The study car furthermore serves as a technology demonstrator of innovative electronic systems that will be finding their way into production models in the next few years. The introduction of a new cross-manufacturer standard for car-to-car communication opens up a new dimension in safety and service. Important parameters such as safety, the traffic flow and therefore obviously also fuel economy and emissions can be influenced positively by information exchanged directly between vehicles in moving traffic. A car-to-car communication standard furthermore opens up countless new possibilities in the domains of service and comfort. One particular innovation that enhances driving fun is Audi drive select: this system enables the driver to preselect several entirely independent vehicle characteristics at the push of a button. Three modes – "comfort", "dynamic" and "sport" – alter the steering, damping and transmission response, as well as the engine map. Audi drive select thus provides access to highly distinct driving experiences that can be realised by a single vehicle, entirely as the driver sees fit. Design The exterior The styling of this four-door fastback saloon is a new, distinctive interpretation of Audi design. Measuring 4.70 m in length and 1.85 m in width, the Audi Roadjet Concept respects the standard dimensions of a B-segment vehicle. However, its height of 1.55 m and the wheelbase of 2.85 m result in substantially greater spaciousness, and also give this car fundamentally new basic proportions. The decidedly short overhangs at the front and rear give the Roadjet Concept an utterly new flavour of sporting flair. The characteristic features of the front end are the dynamic tapered shape with the characteristic Audi integral single-frame grille and the large air inlets below the bumpers. Vertical slats in the single-frame grille support the prominently three-dimensional Audi badge. Concave surfaces around the highly sculpted wheel arches lend the nose extra width. Beneath the clear-glass covers of both the headlights and the rear lights, LED light units create an unmistakeable visual impact both in daylight and after dark. Drivetrain Typically for an Audi study, the Roadjet Concept too is powered by an engine that heralds the shape of things to come with its innovative technology. This applies in equal measure to the 300 bhp evolutionary version of the 3.2 six-cylinder FSI engine and the sporty Direct Shift Gearbox in conjunction with quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The 3.2 FSI V6 with Audi valvelift system The 3.2 V6 FSI – which features as a basic engine with an output of 255 bhp in the Audi A8, A6 and A4 – displays all the characteristics of an ultramodern petrol engine: FSI petrol direct injection with demand-controlled fuel supply, four valves per cylinder and highly effective exhaust emission control. FSI engines develop superior power and dynamism to conventional units with indirect manifold injection – and they do so with a very high stand*ard of fuel economy. With this remarkable achievement, Audi is opening up a new dimension in the efficiency of standard petrol engines, demonstrating once again the brand’s proverbial “Vorsprung durch Technik”. The FSI petrol direct injection system confirmed its unique potential in what must be the most challenging endurance test in the world: a power unit with FSI direct injection drove the Audi R8 to victory on four occasions in the Le Mans 24 Hours. The evolutionary version that powers the Roadjet Concept includes two technologies that double the specific advantage of FSI technology. Because with a fixed intake manifold together with integral vacuum reservoir – as opposed to the variable intake manifold of the production version – the 3.2 FSI can be configured systematically as a sports engine. The six-cylinder engine in addition features a new valve control principle by the name of Audi valvelift system. In the form of two-stage cam lift adjustment, it is able to vary the degree of valve opening according to load and engine speeds. What this means in practice is that in flowing traffic, the engine produces a decidedly smooth, relaxing response to only moderate use of the accelerator pedal, with impressive pulling power in reserve that results in outstandingly low fuel consumption. But as soon as the driver ups the tempo, the 3.2 engine reveals its qualities as a highly talented athlete. It responds with bite to even minimal movements of the accelerator and moves fleet-footedly right up to the speed dictated by the limiter, which only cuts in at 7,500 rpm. What is particularly remarkable is that the power output rises constantly virtually all the way up to that point. This V6 engine delivers its maximum output of 220 kW (300 bhp) at 7,000 rpm; its peak torque of 330 Nm is available at 4,500 rpm. The Roadjet Concept 3.2 FSI accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, and its top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.
  12. DaimlerChrysler, Volkswagen Boost Sales on Exports, New Models Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Volkswagen AG and DaimlerChrysler AG, the world's fourth- and fifth-largest carmakers, reported increases in worldwide car sales last year as they won customers after introducing new models such as the Mercedes-Benz R-Class and a revamped version of the Volkswagen Passat. DaimlerChrysler sales rose 3.8 percent to 4.05 million units, as Chrysler sales gained 4.7 percent to 2.83 million vehicles and Mercedes Car Group sales increased 1.7 percent to 1.22 million units. Wolfsburg, Germany-based Volkswagen sold 5.34 million units, a 3.2 percent increase. German carmakers are benefiting from exports to regions such as the U.S. and Asia, as well as Europe. Mercedes introduced a new S-Class sedan and M-Class sport-utility vehicle last year to win new customers, especially in the U.S., while Volkswagen sold more cars in its domestic German market and elsewhere in Western Europe. ``Our young and attractive product portfolio provides a solid foundation for sustainable profitable growth in the future,'' DaimlerChrysler Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche said in an e-mailed statement today. Mercedes-Benz's December sales climbed 10 percent to 116,100 vehicles. Full-year sales for the German brand rose 1.6 percent to 1.08 million cars and light trucks. Stuttgart, Germany-based DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes-Benz brand is introducing new models in an effort to regain the No. 1 ranking in luxury car sales that it lost to Bayerische Motoren Werke AG in March. Chrysler, in contrast to larger U.S. rivals General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., has been able to win back U.S. market share for the past two years. Overseas Expansion Chrysler is also expanding out of its domestic market. International sales, which grew 9 percent last year, rose faster than domestic sales. The company sold 180,088 vehicles outside North America last year, especially in Italy, China and Germany. Wolfgang Bernhard, who was named chief executive officer of the Volkswagen brand last year, plans to improve quality and introduce new models to bolster U.S. sales after helping turn around Chrysler. Volkswagen's U.S. sales gained 19 percent in December. Volkswagen introduced new versions of its Jetta and Passat models over the past year. Aging models have led to losses at the company's U.S. operations. DaimlerChrysler shares rose less than 0.1 percent to 44.08 euros in Frankfurt trading on Jan. 6. Volkswagen shares rose 14 cents, or 0.3 percent, to 45.35 euros. Da bloomberg. Nonostante i non eccelenti risultati finanziari i colossi tedeschi vanno ancora bene.

    Nuova Alfasud?

Sul nuovo numero di autocarmagazine parla di "Return of the Alfasud, read our full story of the forthcoming Italian Mini" una piccolissima immagine si trova in basso al centro. Qualcuno sa qualcosa a proposito?
