Mr Taurus...Please answer my questions.... 1)The article for Porche says for CE=ECE that it includes 68kgr for the driver and 7kgr of luggage...So Porche gives clearly as you said the 2 measurements...1)Din-2)Ece=Din+75kg......without mentioning anything about fuel tank or other liquids. As you said they are 2 ECE....First the kerb weight and secondly the empty dry weight...Porche uses the Empty dry weight...Am i right? 2)When you are mentioning the Kerb weight, can you give me any example of what kind of Liquids are we talking about and which is the weight of those liquids? 3)The article of Bmw says exactly 68kgr for the driver and 7kgr of luggage and 90% OF FUEL TANK!!So Bmw specifies [ECE=DIN+75KG]+90% FUEL TANK.....which is EU for Bmw...It does not mention anything about other liquids....So what kind of liquids are we talking about? You have made two categories for EU.....1)EU empty without liquids and Fuel tank(?) i guess which is ECE and....2)EU ready to drive which is ECE + liquids + 100% fuel tank....SO bmw's EU,which is DIN+75KG+90% FUEL TANK in which CATEGORY OF EU BELONGS?? 4)So if i want to compare 159 1.9 with 320i(EU=ECE+90%) i must add the din empty/ready to drive(?) weight of 159 + 75 + 90% fuel tank.Do you know the weight of 90% fuel tank of 159? But the comparison is sth imposible.....bercause we don't know if the DIN OF 320 is empty OR with liquids....Bmw does not specify anything....clever cheating...i prefer porche's clear statement!!!!!!!!!!! Granturismo think of it....Taurus statement is the only Logical explaination!I can't think of sth else....Bmw says for 320i 0-100 in 9sec and it has been measured in 9.8sec from all the magazines.....the same thing goes for 330i.....6.9 from 6.3!!....All alfa romeo's except 156 my jts 2003 have been measured close to the official figures. It is obviously that Bmw is cheating or playing with numbers. 5)For my onw curiosity i am trying to find 159's weight compared to bmw's 3 Eu weight. What i need to know is........ a)the weight of 90% fuel tank of 159. b)the empty din weight you have given is without liquids and without fuel tanks compared to din ready to drive? 6)I think that liquids + 100% fuel tank are about 100kg....So 100kg-90% of 56kg(fuel tank as taurus said) =about 50kg=liquids... So if bmw uses in EU the empty din(without liquids) we have... Din + 75kg + (90% of 56kg=50kg)=1390kg <=> Din + 75kg + 50kg=1390kg<=> Din empty of 320=1265Kg...AMAZING I FOUND THE SAME NUMBER WITH TAURUS....he gave 1266kg....So TAURUS-THE empty din weight you have given for 159 1.9 what kind of empty weight it is?....because din empty weight of 320i is of 1320kgr -54kgr..1266kgr. and for 159 din empty weight 1390/1400kgr .................................................................................................................... Some thoughts... 320 EU=Din(we don't know what kind of Din...maybe empty without liquids) + 75kg + 90% fuel tank=1390kg 159 EU=Din(?) + 75kg + 90% fuel tank(?) Fiat pdf for 159 1.9-(1480kg Din ready to drive) which is.....Liquids+100% fuel tank... ..................................................................................................................

Autocar wrote for Brera 3.2 without Q4 1)V6 sounds like a V12 Ferrari 2)If you close your eyes it seems that you are driving a masterpiece from Maranello.Brera has the soul and the sound of a true ''red'' car... 3)The handling of the car is sth amazing... 4)Despite having hard suspensions and the camber of the car is inexistent because of the excellent torsionally rigidity you don't hear any noises or crackles from the road....Brera has overcome German rivals on this sector.. 5)Excellent quality in the interior and you feel that you are driving a rare sports car. 6)Very quick 6 manual gearbox

Theres an interview with Karl Heinz Kalbfell in this months Evo. Main points: 1) Wants GTAs to compete directly with M series BMWs and S line Audis. 2) Doubling Alfa sales to 300,000 in next 5 years. 3)159 and Brera might be sold in US. 4) Wants GTA badge to have credibilty.Taking inspiration from the 60s cars,he sees reduction in weight as the way to go. 5) Wants to introduce more extreme 4 cylinder cars to compliment the high end V6s. 6) Future GTAs may get get even more rearward bias to their 4wd. "For me the GTA will appeal to a very specific customer and it means we can take more risks with the set up."

Italiaspeed... Well-informed sources have recently mentioned the preference of a Maserati-derived 4.3 litre V8 engine by Alfa Romeo for their 159, Sportwagon, Brera and Spider GTA models. This engine - which is an evolution of the 4.244 cc GranSport unit - will be fitted with Uniair (which was recently showcased in the CRF Sportiva Latina at the Barcelona Motor Show) and will allegedly pump out 440 bhp at 7000 rpm with 505 Nm of torque. The engine has similar dimensions to Alfa’s V6 and only weighs 183 kg. With minimal modifications, open to after market tuning specialists, the Maserati V8 has the potential to deliver well over 500 bhp. An out-bored, in-house high output variant, for use in possible future Alfa Romeo Supercars and the 169 GTA, is also under development, and will yield approximately 500 bhp. A benefit of this V8 engine over the initial plan to use a twin turbo version of the 3.2 JTS V6 is the reduced torque (505 Nm compared to the Biturbo 3.2 V6’s asphalt-ripping 680 Nm), enabling the possibility to not only have a 6-speed automatic transmission but also manual and Selespeed options as well. Another problem with the serial Twin Turbo 3.2 litre V6 engine, which has been actively tested under an Alfa Romeo 166 prototype, lies in the power-band, with maximum power being achieved at only 6000 rpm. True to the Gran Turismo Allegerita tag, these high performance Alfa’s will be lightweight: the 159 GTA will have a 130 kg weight reduction. The V8-engined GTA’s will retain AWD, as the V8 engine is to be mounted transversely similar to the old Lancia Thema 8.32. Part of the weight saving objective could be achieved through using high-performance parts such as Brembo CCM (Composite Ceramic Material) brakes. These alone weigh 30% less than alternative cast iron discs, and are currently used on high performance cars such as the Ferrari F430. Offering top end performance is a prerequisite in future Alfa Romeo’s, strongly understood by Alfa Romeo engineer Paulo Massai, who believes that future cars should offer more power than their competitors. Centro Ricerche Fiat also play a crucial role in this respect, having developed the Uniair system, as well as a high performance adaptive rear differential which will feature on the more powerful models. Another recent design, which may be used on future GTA cars, is a retractable front spoiler mounted aerodynamic barrier, offering additional braking in a method similar to that of the Mercedes-McLaren SLR. Clearly, future GTA models will surpass the 250 km/h limit imposed on their German counterparts, requiring all the stopping power available.

The cylinder heads are unique to its version of the V6, probably has to do with JTS application. Also stainless steel liners, different pistons which are oil-cooled from underneath by jets and sintered steel conrods and different valves. It gets a different manifold, too. 159 IS 95% ALFA ROMEO...only the automatic gearbox is from aisin(japan)

In the past he told.... Clarkson's given his GT back to Ford..... "I then did something the man at Ford wasn’t expecting. I asked for my money back. And that, the next day, is what happened. They put £126,000 in my account and sent a man to pick up the car. “Is it the alarm system?” he said. “They all do that.” So there we are. A 35-year dream. A two-year wait. Ten years of damn hard work. And what do I get? The most miserable month’s motoring it is possible to imagine. " Well July's Top Gear magazine, (p134) Jeremy says "this month my long awaited and much delayed Ford GT arrived in Britain which would ordinarily be a cause for much whooping and celebration. But, unfortunately I went to see it just 24 hours after I drove Ferrari's new F430 which is undoubtedly the best car ever made"

Italiaspeed.. The first move towards keeping interest in the Alfa 159 high will be the introduction of the 6-speed Ainsin automatic gearbox sourced from Japan. This gearbox option will be firstly made available on the 2.4 JTDM model in March 2006. It will follow on the 1.9 JTDM 16V, 1.9 JTS, 2.2 JTS and 3.2 JTS V6 in June. An optional gear control on the steering wheel will be available. Another addition in March 2006 will be an entry level model with a 130 bhp 1.8 MPI petrol engine. Undercutting German rivals in price whilst remaining on top in terms of style and reliability will remain a fundamental element in the Alfa 159’s sales success. This will certainly be a key role in the bolstering of Alfa Romeo’s image in emerging markets such as the Czech Republic. Alfa recently demonstrated their interest in this market by their presence at the Brno Motor Show earlier this year with the presentation of the 159 and Brera models. Selespeed transmission will also be introduced early next year on the 2.2 JTS, and will be present on the GTA version of the 159 as standard. At present not much is known about the GTA, with the high performance model being clearly intended for a much later introduction date. The GTA will most likely be fitted with a twin turbo 3.2 V6 producing 405 bhp, coupled to integral transmission. A probable launch date for this model will be in October 2007. Packages and trim levels Πακετα εξοπλισμου... Three main trim levels will be available, which are the Basis, Medium and High. The basissis represents the entry-level specification for the two-wheel drive 1.8 MPI, 1.9 JTS and 1.9 JTD models. Despite being an entry level trim it includes manual mono-zone air-conditioning over the standard features which are available on all Alfa 159 models (see our Future Models section). The Medium trim level is available on all versions, and from the 2.2 JTS upwards represents the standard entry level. The Medium level includes manual mono-zone air-conditioning, front fog lights, leather steering wheel and gear knob, radio CD and wider 215/55 tyres (despite still having steel wheels as standard). The High trim level includes electric rear windows, front fog lights, bi-zone air-conditioning, audio and GSM controls in the steering wheel, leather steering wheel and gear knob, cruise control, radio CD, Alfatex upholstery, Visibility Pack 1 & 2 (rain sensor, electro chromatic interior mirror, defrosting sensor, odour sensor) and 16” alloy wheels with 215/55 tyres. Alongside these trim levels, customers are also able to choose a variety of options depending on their availability within the trim level. Options include a rear entertainment kit, privacy glass, sun blinds, a cold country kit (with special oil in the power steering and higher power battery), passenger knee airbag, electric driver’s seat with memory, 60/40 folding rear seats with armrest and skiholder (standard on the Sportwagon), tri-zone air-conditioning, diverse paints (metallic, pastel and pearlescent), diverse leather seats, factory alarm, xenon headlights, automatic gear control on the steering wheel, foldable external mirrors (optional memory), tyre pressure sensor, roof racks in black or aluminium for the Sportwagon, VDC (only on 4-cylinder cars), big sunroof for the Sportwagon, normal sunroof, a range of alloy wheels from 16” with 215/55 tyres to 18” with 235/45 tyres, front heated seats, height adjustable passenger seat, front and rear parking sensors (rear parking sensors also as a separate option), rear central headrest, diverse audio options (including MP3, Bose speakers, a CD changer and even the elimination of the standard CD player), diverse spare tyre options (space-saving, normal steel wheel, alloy wheel - a tyre kit is standard), prewiring for phone kits, elimination of engine badges, Connect Nav, Home Link, tilting driver and passenger seats, reflective infrared windscreen with antidazzle band and heated zones, diesel engine PTC pre-heater and various Bluetooth, voice control and SAT/NAV options. For the sporting Alfa Romeo driver, there are three sport packs to choose from. All of these are not available with the Basis trim level. The most comprehensive sport offering is the “Pack TI”, which can be specified in one go, or the customer can choose elements from it. The equipment includes: general sport tuning, body skirts, aluminium sill plates, light instrument graphics with white backlighting, two leather seat options, radio controls on the steering wheel, brushed aluminium inserts on the dashboard, doorpanels and glovebox, TI badging and 18” TI sport alloy wheels. The second sport package is the “External Pack Sport”, which includes general sport tuning, body skirts and 17” sport alloy wheels. The third and final sport package is for the interior only, and includes the interior options found in the TI pack, bar the specific TI badging. A luxury package is also available, and includes a leather dashboard in three colours. This particular option is not available on the Basis trim level, but leather seats are. A simple aluminium pack gives the option of radio controls on the steering wheel and brushed aluminium inserts from the TI pack. Visibility packs, as described in the High trim levels, follow. Utility packages (separate packs for the sedan and SW) are also available, and include a boot carpet cover, various nets for keeping luggage stable and a handy net on the transmission tunnel next the passenger seat.
