Teksid, is the world leader on the market of iron castings production
in the automotive field. Since the early ninetees many experiments were performed pouring cylinder blocks and heads in CGI for a
variety of applications.
Choices in the processes area assure the widest guarantees on material performances and quality. All Teksid plants, both in Europe
and on the market of North America, are able to provide serials
productions of CGI castings.
The rise of competition, the increasing in engines performances, together with
the necessity to become accustomed to the newest laws and rules about exhausts emissions lead OEM to develop researches on newer and efficient engineering solutions. Within this scenario the substitution of traditional materials such as grey iron and aluminium with CGI is a passage which could bring up remarkable technological improvements, such as:
1 - ENLIGHTENMENT: CGI increased mechanical properties allow designers to project new engines with thinner walls and reduced ribs.
2 - POWER INCREASING: Maintaining the same geometry and using CGI, a remarkable increasing of working pressures and temperatures inside cylinders it’s possible. Obviously, that fact leads to an engine power increasing and also to an improvement in the combustion process. Consequently, a reduction in exhaust emission is also obtained.
3 - ENGINE VOLUME REDUCTION: An engine design realised adopting a cylinder block in CGI, especially in case of V configurations, could have dimensions which permit to improve, or at least to keep constant, the aerodynamic efficiency of the whole vehicle system.
Machining
The development and introduction of newest and advanced technologies of CGI production process control, jointly with the improvements in the study of specific tools allow to manage machining processes of series productions without loosing productivity. Teksid is able to support its customers in the activity of machining parameters optimisation.
