Presentata in quel colore, poi...

  12. Sempre dal mitico sniffpetrol (Hans, could you double check?)
  13. AGGIORNAMENTO SETTIMANALE: Despite the repeated calls on coordinating measures at EU level, news on public aid packages for car makers are increasing across Europe: France has announced a 5-6 billion € aid package for automakers retaining jobs in the country, Germany is to provide 1.5 billion € to support its auto industry and a fund of 100 billion euros to provide credit guarantees to struggling businesses, whereas Italy is discussing a possible set of measures after Fiat announcing that 60.000 jobs across the country could be at risk. § FIAT: After the alliance with Chrysler LLC (35% stake in exchange for access to technology and overseas markets provided that the US company gets the $3 billion additional loan from the government), the Italian Group is now seeking a possible ally with PSA-Peugeot. According to a first estimate released by the French press, synergies spreading from an all-European deal could be really relevant only in case of a 20% combined workforce reduction (more than 75.000 people). However, a combined Fiat-Chrysler-PSA Group would be the third world largest auto company with a total production of 8.8 million vehicles. In the meantime, Fiat announced new production halts between Feb. and Mar. § After disclosing plans to axe 2,500 people globally by the end of Q1, new details on Tyco’s locations affected by the restructuring measures are gradually emerging: 223 layoffs in the UK with closure of Cheney Manor site by the end 2009 and production relocation to Czech Rep., shutdown of the US plants of Carlisle and Emigsville (Pennsylvania) implying “laying off an undisclosed number of primarily blue collar workers”, elimination of weekend shifts in Czech Rep. in order to reduce production by 20% (as orders fell by up to 40% since last August). The company also seems to be intentioned to cut 800 jobs in the Asia-Pacific Region by the end of 2009. To underline that Tyco has just been condemned to pay US$11 million to the state pension fund of Massachusetts (PRIM) for having “inflated its profit by $5.8 billion between 1999 and 2002”. The company has also lost a $2 billion 20-year contract with the State of NY due to some company’s failures. § After recurring to short-time working since last December, FCI is now discussing a redundancy scheme at its German plant of Nürnberg involving ~90 positions on a total workforce of 640. In addition to this, the Group also announced 150 layoffs at its US plant of Mount Union (Pennsylvania) with the subsequent shift of production to China. § Claiming a “a shortfall of around $100m in the three months up to the end of December 2008”, Molex has announced it is to seek 100 redundancies, a pay cut of 5% and a shortening of the working week at its Irish plant in Shannon (current workforce: 400 people). § Hon Hai Precision is preparing to increase its capital up to ~500 € million by issuing no more than 370 million ordinary shares. According to the press, the company would also plan a corporate bond issue in Taiwan. In the meantime, in a rush of optimisms, Hon Hai’s Chairman (Terry Gou) said he expects a possible turnaround by Q2 or Q3.
