None of them was an E-segment sedan. Both were SUVs. One was Tonale? Maybe but for sure it was C-segment SUV and even under Marchionne they worked on Small Wide fork for Alfa Romeo C-segment SUV. But under Marchionne they have a lot of plastic metal replacement projects for Alfa Romeo. Phase II and Phase III lightweight materials. Manley had pushed one Italian company out of car supplier business.

Chat is about P2 or P2.5 MHEV 48 Volt. About MHEV which has electric motor built into a transmission. At this very moment I'm unaware that there is any car on sale in Europe with this technology. Most MHEV's today are belt driven or what is called P0. They are 12 or 48 Volts. And some have P1 MHEV 48 Volt system like Mercedes on their Inline 6 engine. Upcoming FCA 1.5 GSE/FireFly turbo DOHC will be mated to a Getrag/Magna 7HDT300 MHEV transmission. This will be one of the first if not the first P2 MHEV on sale. There is a also a high voltage PHEV version of this particular transmission. PSA has a JV with Punch Powertrain which is working on a fake DCT. I call it fake because it has single clutch so it can't be dual clutch. It's a P2 type and can be 48V MHEV or high voltage PHEV. It will eventually replace Aisin 8 speed transmission for PSA based products. But PSA is late with this project: As you can see SOP is planned in early 2023 which can be even mode delayed. Originally plan was to launch it during calendar 2022. 1.0 FireFly/GSE is using primitive 12V BSG/P0 MHEV system. It's not even close to systems mentioned above.

There are only 2 reasons behind keeping French EB and EP engines over Italian GSE. One is total costs of switching production capacity from one to another engine family or from two to a single engine family. For cost part they should also calculate related electrification programs. Something should start from the beginning. The other reason is nationalistic in nature. They want to keep French jobs safe and because of this they will push with French engines. I would not exclude this way of thinking. As we already saw in South America GSE engine family won. So we can exclude engine cost as the reason although some ill informed forum members have pushed it.

BEV is interesting because of less dependency on external suppliers and simpler production. And we both know how much mister Tavares likes cost cuts. MHEV? I'm afraid that French guys want to kill FireFly/GSE project in Europe. Yes, that was the plan according to FCA. But under Stellantis Fiat is a Core brand. Or if you prefer an entry level brand. 500 family of products is not an entry level.

None of them is using a type of hybrid which will be used on 1.5 turbo GSE. P2 MHEV, electric motor embedded into a gearbox. It will be interesting to see how much will Stellantis charge for it. It was in the plans for all Small Wide based cars sold in Europe. This includes Fiat Tipo.- Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV 2022 - Prj. 965 (Spy a pag.351)

He was PSA Vice President responsible for retails channel sales. Not to mention that PSA prefers retail sales over fleets. Retail sales are part of the reason why they have so high EBIT margin in Europe. Not so long ago, in 2019, PSA has worse margin for fleet sales than FCA. I'm talking about European market. So Stellantis, at least in Europe, wants to sell cars directly to customers.- Il futuro dei siti produttivi Stellantis

Exclusive use in electrification age? That's strange. But then... If you look at what Portuguese French Carlos said, he wants to lean on JV or in house produced electrification components. It doesn't matter how good is product. The most important feature is price. It must be cheap. Like Nidec electromotors or Punch fake DCT.- I prossimi modelli Alfa Romeo (Notizie) - Riassunto nel 1° messaggio
