  1. Ah. I have forgotten whispers about cooperation between FCA and VAG on some next gen commercial vehicles. Maybe there is something more than just a whispers.
  2. I knew nothing. Besides HD trucks Saltillo is currently producing RAM ProMaster and we know how close is next generation.
  3. @pennellotref I completely overlooked Mexico part. But it's very logical and expected. Mexico could be used as export hub for both EU and Mercosur.
  4. Fiat Chrysler turbo engine built in Trenton is built for the future (at https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/chrysler/2018/01/10/fiat-chryslers-turbo-engine-built-trenton-michigan/1018617001/ )
  5. https://www.allpar.com/forums/threads/now-that-the-hurricane-is-finally-here-any-gme-6-news.169611/page-3#post-1084913999 Lets say he is insider.
  6. Tiguan is bigger and heavier than average European compact SUV, it's something between compact and mid-size SUV. Ateca and Karoq are true compact SUV for VAG. And T-Roc is something between sub-compact and compact segment. It has a compact platform. But Fiat 500X in that respect is not different compared to T-Roc. For both high H-point allows them to have similar legroom compared to average compact hatchback although they have shorter wheelbase. The problem for 500X is... It seems that for now VW is successful in marketing T-Roc as a compact SUV. Fiat 500X did not make it.
  7. Designing Maserati in Porsche and Mercedes backyard.
  8. There is no balance shaft on 3 cylinder GSE. But on 1 liter 3 cylinder engines that's common. Interesting topic are balance shafts on 4 cylinder engines. For example Americans usually don't use them on 2 liter engines. But they put them on 2.4 or 2.5 liter engines. Europeans are using them already on 2 liter engines especially for premium brands. For future FCA engine development. It looks pretty straightforward to me. Maybe the only drawback is that very likely they will not make 1.5 liter turbo engine. And maybe engine development is unorthodox for a group with so much North American connection. It's very European.
  9. I have a feeling that Ferrari is using LPDC for F154 engine block. Actually based on some videos it's quite likely. Or maybe they are using LPDC for something else?
  10. Mexico to EU should be with no tarrif and it's the same vice versa. From US to EU it's 10% tarrif on cars. It's 2.5% in the opposite direction. Mercosur to Mexico and vice versa it should be no tarrif on cars. For car parts different tarrif could be applied.
  11. IMO, highly unlikely. Aluminium and 77 mm bore spacing. Hmh... But next to 1.5 Giulia it was mark "cancelled" in the past.
  12. According to market trends, just IMO, using Giorgio for C segment and saving on interior or similar is totally wrong. Car in compact segment must be roomy and confy and have all bells and whistles. The problem is. Cars in a C segment now offers options and habitability on Giulia and Stelvio level. The only difference is no V6 engines, slightly shorter in length and simpler suspension. But they have same interior room, powerful 2.0 gasoline and diesel engines, 10" infotainment screen, and Full LED.
  13. Interesting... But have you read that FCA in on court with US Maserati dealers. The reason are electric Maseratis. FCA has desire to sell them directly to clients and not through dealers. It seems that Marchionne is very seriously gunning at Tesla.
  14. FCA is capacity constrained in whole North America, not just in the USA. Maybe there will be some empty building after Big Shuffle is done but who knows. Certainly pattern is known. Sergio killed Dodge Fart and C200. FCA will introduce additional capacity for new RAM 1500 and new Jeep Wrangler. They will introduce completely new vehicles in the line-up in Jeep Grand Wagoneer WS ( that's the one where GME T6 will debut) and Jeep pick-up JT. All of this Made in the USA. All above models have high margin and high transaction price. So FCA will have huge advantage with tax reform brought in by Trump. Company tax is going down from 35% to 21%. So I don't see Alfa models produced in North America. There is no capacity and FCA will certainly not add new capacity or better said build new plant. And in Italy they have a lot of empty factories. I mentioned Grand Cherokee because plan is for WL on Giorgio. And in Italy will be Giorgio capacity. Currently WK2 is capacity constrained. Question is how much capacity they can add with next generation if any. And for FCA whole process of stopping production of WK2 and retooling Jefferson North Assembly Plant for WL may took to long. I'm not sure which engine will use Alfa big SUV. But they planned 6 cylinder gasoline with around 400 HP. And FCA will then have two different modern 6 cylinder engines available. So race is open. GME T6 or V6 90°? We have seen what Mercedes did with their new Inline 6 engine. I'm not expecting much less from FCA if they will offer Inline 6 for Alfa and/or Maserati in the future. Process of hybridization is unstoppable and in the future Inline 6 could offer more efficient packaging compared to V6 engines.
  15. I think you are way to optimistic. But, IMO, development of Alfa E segment SUV is directly related to next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee WL. And Jeep WL will come out in 2019 calendar year at the earliest. IMO it's more likely 2020. And as I said earlier in some other threads they plan to offer new GME T6 at the start of WL sales. I don't know if there will Alfa/Italian version of GME T6. Alfa's V6 90° is very advanced and new and it's engine block is produced in LPDC (low pressure die cast). It's certainly suitable for higher production numbers. Certainly in some markets like in North America offering a 2.0 trubo with 350 or more HP is a drawback. For them 6 cylinder turbo engine is must. Although I think that even GME T6 with MultiAir, single twin scroll turbo, could be capable for around 400 HP and maybe for 550 or 600 Nm of peak torque. And Inline 6 could be a silky smooth which is desirable characteristic for American customers. But this story of Grand Cherokee on Giorgio platform is very interesting to me. Why? Current generation of Grand Cherokee is capacity constrained. @4200blu once said that for him it would be logical to produce Alfa E segment SUV in North America. I didn't agree. One reason is exactly capacity limit for Grand Cherokee in the USA. Actually I'm wondering if next Grand Cherokee could be produced in Italy alongside Alfa SUV. For example for markets of Europe, Canada and Mercosur. We know that starting in 2021 there will be no tarrif on cars beetwen Canada and EU. And also EU and Mercosur are close of signing FTA.
  16. We'll see. But... As Sergio said. MHEV will replace small diesels. And we already know that there will not be 1.3 MJT Euro 6d. But we could expect 1.6 MJT Euro 6d. And for me it sound logical to completely remove 2.0 diesel from the range and replace them with 2.2 unit. But who knows. I didn't say that there will be Renegade Trackhawk. I just said that any such a development would most likely be connected to Abarth. Even 500X facelift and Renegade facelift are tightly connected. PHEV? Today take rate is to small. For example they can act as Germans. Just make PHEV model even if its outdated for today's standards. AFAIK Pacifica PHEV is superior to most BMW's PHEV models. But Germans will always hide behind German engineering moniker. I will say something which some of you will not like. The biggest enemy of FCA in Europe are Italian people.
  17. If Alfa is at the lower Jag level than we would drive Alfa Ghibli and Alfa Compass for quite some time. But maybe substance is today irrelevant in automotive sectors. All is about marketing.
