  1. Yes, RWD gives naturally a longer hood. Cabin is more backwards and also a short front overhang. Long hood could be achieved even with FWD platform. A pillar must be pushed back to accommodate longer/bigger cowl. Something which Volvo did on their latest products. For front overhang Small Wide is already superior compared to front overhang. If you compare Tipo and Giulietta than Tipo has 6 cm shorter nose. And IMO it could be improved with better styling.
  2. Yes and this is easily overlooked. Compact Alfa's models with RWD platform could be easily slammed in every comparison review. Not only in USA but also in Europe and Asia. For example take look at Jeep products. IMO, Compass is a nice and offer a lot of room even for a passenger at back seats. But it's a Jeep and thus it has short rear overhang and also it has rear McPherson/Chapman suspension. Because of those two reasons it pays a penalty for cargo room. IMO, they must have at least two if not three models on Small Wide platform. Direct competitors should be BMW X2 and 2er Gran Coupe (Americans and Asians do not like classic two box hatchbacks) and maybe even Audi Q2 competitor. IMO, Small Wide is not going anywhere in the future. It will stay here for some future Jeep and maybe Fiat models and certainly in any case it should need updates. But here I did not talk about platform. Closures and suspension are not directly related to platform, to construction itself.
  3. I don't have anything against Alfa compact models on Small Wide platform. But... Both front and rear suspension must be completely redone. Versions with AWD must have more advanced systems compared to current one on Small Wide vehicles, in other words it must have at least rear torque vectoring differential. They must use aluminium at least for closures. Interior must be very similar to Giulia and Stelvio with their infotainment system. IMO, the biggest concern is transmission. ZF 9HP is both slow and inefficient.
  4. 10" LCD between analog instruments. I like it. Actually I prefer this over full digital dashboard. IMO, this shows where is FCA heading with next generation instruments cluster. Currently there is 7" LCD between instruments.
  5. Both. It will have longitudinal premiere in all new Jeep Wrangler. Unveiling is in LA. It's late November. For transverse applications premiere will be in Jeep Cherokee facelift. Unveiling at Detroit or Chicago Auto Show, January or early February. IMO, Hurricane name could very likely be a nickname for all GME engines. I'm not sure. I'm tend for now to separate turbocharged versions on GME T4 M and GME T4 D. First with MultiAir and second DOHC. Wrangler will get GME T4 D. AFAIK power level is 285 or 286 HP.

  7. Or as Allpar says... Dodge Journey will be RWD on Giorgio produced in Canada together to other bigger Dodge models on Giorgio. Nothing sooner than calendar year 2020. So MY2021. IMO, I would not like model on compact platform in Europe. IMO, not just because of price. Also weight, space inefficiency due to V6 engine... Also there is no Compact platform plant in South America and Mexico. So a car on a Compact platform would be to expensive in Brazil.
  8. It must be 2760 mm. Same as E90. Or better said it was just a BMW E91 (Series 3 wagon) with shorter rear overhang and cheaper interior. IMO, today with further development od Small Wide platform they could achieve excellent results and maybe even offer a B segment CUV.
  9. It will be interesting if official power figure of Wrangler's GME T4 D exceeds that of Giulia's GME T4 M. I heard it will with 285 HP. But Americans are usually very optimistic with their power figures from 2.0 turbo engines, at least GM is.

  11. Modular? TwinAir is chain driven, 1750 is belt driven. Also different bore and stroke dimensions. I really don't know where that 1750/2=TwinAir story came from. It's not true.
  12. It's unrefined, very poor in real life fuel economy... There are numerous reasons to discontinue TwinAir. But IMO above all is that it's been replaced by modular engine family. With one (GSE/FireFly) they are killing two engines (FIRE and TwinAir).
  13. But still according to FCA plans hybrid options will start with mild hybrids. Something like that will replace 1.3 liter diesel in the near future.
  14. I don't know if I understood this correctly. You are implying that 48V hybrids are more complex? I would not agree and FCA in their plans said that mild hybrid will be 48V BSG. More complex are plug in hybrids. It's not much smaller compare to 3 cylinders GSE/FireFly.
  15. I must admit that idea about 5x333 sounds interesting but that would not happen. AFAIK FCA is working on Inline 6 but it's not 6x333, it's 6x500.
  16. 180 IMO, it does not make sense when you have modular engines based around 333 cc and 500 cc cylinder capacity. Once upon a time there was 1.5 liter engine for Giulia in ePER. For me it makes sense if it is a 1.5 3 cylinder GME. Also with MultiAir and 3 cylinders they could relatively easily implement cylinder deactivation. Is it possible with WLTP? But... What about 1.3 mild hybrid?
  17. Uhm, no. I most European countries Škoda isa generalist brand. Seat is the cheap one from lazy southern country and a car with to much imperfections. Actually Škoda price in many countries reached VW level. Octavia vs Golf, or Superb vs Passat. But in both cases Škoda offers more interior room, that's Škoda's forte.
