As the picture shows, the all-new truck appears to employ the same distinctive cab frame as the current Actros heavy-duty line-up, and while the camouflage panels do a good job of covering up the details, it's clear the side panels will be completely new, there's a new roof line and the grille will be heavily modified. We'll also expect an obligatory revamp of the cab interior at the same time. Mercedes is working on Euro-6 engines to satisfy forthcoming emissions regulations, expected in 2014, and the new 'Actros' will be equipped with the manufacturer's heavy-duty engine platform (HDEP), already launched in the US. This new straight-six motor marks a break for Mercedes from its V-configuration engines in Europe, and is available in 12.8-litre and 15.6-litre versions. Given the installation requirements for a straight-six engine and the cooling needs for the latest generation of engines using a combination of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), it would seem unlikely the new Actros will be launched without this new engine family. *roadtransport.com
