  1. Talent, not technology, is key to automotive future, says FCA’s young chairman https://journal.classiccars.com/2019/08/26/talent-not-technology-is-key-to-automotive-future-says-fcas-young-chairman/
  2. P2 48V MHEV should come to Small Wide based vehicles in around one year or year and a half. It will be interesting to see who is supplier and which capabilities will it offer. In any case I'm expecting real fuel economy gains.
  3. It will also receive Sport trim level as MY20.
  4. Irrelevant. Maserati powertrain is not a mass market one. Let's focus on a mass market. For MHEV. P1F (actually it's a P0) 48V is being rolled out on American RWD based products. P1F 12V will be introduced to a 500 and Panda. P2 48V is the one we are waiting for because it will be the most important electrification form for European FCA lineup. PHEV for FCA started with a P2P3 architecture as is on Pacifica. Chinese Jeep Commander is the 2nd product. It uses EVT transmission. Second PHEV architecture is the one using P4 (e-axle) electric motor. It will be used on Renegade, Compass... Tonale. And finally the third PHEV architecture is the one for RWD based vehicles. First applications will be on Jeep Wrangler with more to follow including Alfa and Maserati. So if you ask me FCA is on track with its electrification plan.

  6. Renault, FCA talks are 'in the past,' Renault CEO says https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/renault-fca-talks-are-past-renault-ceo-says
  7. Ideally all diesels would be a 48V MHEV. Why not.
  8. For "eating" kilometers on motorway diesel is still unbeatable.
  9. It will be offered in US starting with MY22. But this class size is not popular in US. This are cars starting at around 35k USD with 2.0 turbo engine. Just for comparison Jeep Compass starts at 24k USD with 2.4.
  10. I'm always talking about MHEV, P2 MHEV to be more precise because BSG 48V MHEV is not in the plans for FCA cars with transverse engines. P2 48V MHEV is in plans for both transversely and longitudinally oriented engines in FCA cars. P2 electric motor is part of the gearbox. Both ZF 9HP and ZF 8HP in its current forms are P2 MHEV capable. Currently there is not FCA cars with this technology. It will be unveiled in late 2020 or early 2021. I didn't mention PHEV.
  11. No 2.0 MA, no 2.2 alu diesel, no 2.0 MHEV??? Actually I do believe that all petrol engines for Tonale will be at least MHEV. That's a trend. Plus Quadrifoglio should be a 2.0 MHEV.
  12. 3.0 V6 was not planned for Europe, only for US. Dunno if something has changed.

  17. https://www.fcagroup.com/en-US/media_center/fca_press_release/FiatDocuments/2019/july/FCA_2019_SECOND_QUARTER_RESULTS.pdf FCA reports strong second quarter 2019 results with Net profit from continuing operations at €0.8 billion, Adjusted net profit of €0.9 billion, Adjusted EBIT of €1.5 billion, margin at 5.7%. Full-year guidance is confirmed. “We continue to deliver strong performance in North America and LATAM. Robust demand for our new products, along with steps we've taken to exert discipline across all of our businesses, have generated the momentum to achieve our full-year 2019 guidance.” - Mike Manley, CEO While Group Adjusted EBIT was in line with prior year, North America achieved record Q2 results despite shipments being down 12%, largely attributable to dealer stock reductions of approximately 80 thousand units. The successful launch of the all-new Ram heavy-duty pickup, along with the continued success of the all-new and Classic Ram 1500, resulted in a U.S. large pickup market share of 27.9% in Q2, up 7 ppts from last year. In addition, the all-new Jeep Gladiator pickup launch is exceeding our expectations with production already achieving full run rate. Although new to the market, the Jeep Gladiator earned a 7.7% share of its U.S. segment in June. Solid financial results in LATAM were driven by strong commercial performance in Brazil where we retained the market leader position. Our Industrial free cash flows were strong as well at €0.8 billion, though this was down €0.7 billion from prior year due to higher capex and Q2 payments of €0.4 billion related to U.S. diesel emissions matters accrued for in 2018. We have also taken a number of steps to further strengthen our fundamental business performance. Our leadership team was complemented with the addition of two members to our Group Executive Council recruited from outside the company. In China, we overhauled the leadership and structure of our joint venture. We also continue to strengthen business disciplines around our management of costs, inventories, commercial initiatives and product planning processes. In addition, during the quarter we continued to lay the foundation for future competitiveness and regulatory compliance, including securing local community support for the new Mack Avenue assembly plant in Detroit (Michigan) that will produce the next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and an all-new 3-row full-size Jeep SUV; confirming investment in the Mirafiori plant in Turin (Italy) to produce the all-new battery electric Fiat 500; and adding key agreements with Enel X and ENGIE to a growing network of technology partners. In the second half of the year, we will continue to focus on the underperforming areas of our business, including Maserati, where we’ve reinforced our leadership team; and EMEA, where we continue to target increased margins through the impact of restructuring actions, better management of channel mix, and targeted product strategies. Based on the strength of our second quarter results and the initiatives put in place to maintain this momentum, we remain confident in our ability to achieve our full-year 2019 guidance.
  18. Actually according to American standards Giulia is a small midsize sedan. It's bigger than BMW 3er which is a compact even in its newest generation. Giulia also offers more combined (front + rear) leg room.
  19. With model like Tonale they'll need both. I agree with you. And P2 MHEV FireFly should be just around the corner. Similar with 300+ HP GME. PHEV? That's interesting. In the near future we should not exclude even a 48 Volts plug in hybrids. We already know that in the very near future there will be 48 Volts P2 hybrids with an electric mode.
  20. It seems that battery price doesn't come down as was expected. The most expensive parts are of course batteries. Not to mention that most likely battery production will be allocated to non car applications.
