Mystery Car: Is this a Prototype for the Alfa Romeo Giulia?

Mystery Car: Is this a Prototype for the Alfa Romeo Giulia?

Usually when we catch camouflaged cars testing in our neck of the woods, we have a pretty good guess as to what they are. This one, however, has managed to evade identification. A Motor Trend staffer caught this unknown test mule coming back from Arizona recently. Had it been by itself, this heavily camo'd sedan could have been anything. But since it was seen with a Maserati, we have at least one clue. Our shooter reports that the mystery sedan was caravanning with a Maserati Ghibli, both wearing Michigan manufacturer plates, which means that this is likely a Fiat Chrysler product we're looking at. It doesn't appear to have the Ghibli's roofline or mirrors, but the proportions we can make out from the lone rear three-quarter shot above seem to hint at rear-wheel drive. One possibility is that this is a test mule for the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which has been seen testing previously wearing Ghibli bodywork. The Giulia was originally planned to ride on the new Chrysler 200's platform, but the decision was made to move it to a rear-drive architecture. A similar call was made regarding the upcoming Levante SUV, which was initially said to be built on the Jeep Grand Cherokee's platform, but is now confirmed to ride on the same architecture that underpins the Ghibli and Quattroporte.

The photographer was able to get a peek at the front end as he passed it, and described a "waterfall-like grille." But if the front is anything like the back, that grille could be a dummy unit meant to throw us off. The taillights appear to be fake, and an unexplained flap on the driver's side rear quarter panel looks out of place. Here's hoping that those flared fenders are close to production-spec, though. According to Fiat-Chrysler's five-year plan, the mid-size Alfa Romeo Giulia is set to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2015. Do you think that's the model we've captured here? Weigh in with your guesses in the comments below.

Ora , che sia la presunta Giulia, ci credo molto poco.............Però il fatto che fosse scortata da auto del gruppozzo, ci deve far sospettare qualcosa.........:pen:. Ergo, che cazzè ??????????
