  1. Jaguar begins polishing image as an elite lifestyle brand Jaguar's lifestyle ads aim to position the brand as the pinnacle of luxury, up there with such brands as Cartier jewelry and Hermes and Balenciaga fashions. Jaguar's metamorphosis into an ultraluxury brand is underway. The change starts with creating a more upscale perception of the iconic British luxury brand in consumers' minds. The undertaking began Aug. 8 with a new marketing campaign that features ads and videos for upscale magazines. The lifestyle ads aim to position Jaguar as the pinnacle of luxury, right up there with such exclusive European brands as Cartier jewelry and Hermes and Balenciaga fashions. "We are actually part of that world, but we don't really communicate the brand in that way. We are quite rooted in automotive tradition," said Stuart Schorr, vice president of communications for Jaguar Land Rover North America. "And as we try and elevate and move into the future, sometimes you just need a strong break." When Jaguar Land Rover CEO Thierry Bollore in 2021 rolled out his Reimagine plan that will see the current generation of Jaguars end production and be replaced by an array of ultraluxury electric vehicles in 2025, he dropped a hint of the long-term goal for Jaguar and also Land Rover: Create the world's most desirable luxury vehicles. "We made the decision to elevate the consumer-facing touch points of our brands to try and achieve being among the world's most stylish, refined and modern luxury brands without being constrained by automotive," said Schorr. The first ads feature models who look fresh from a fashion show, and only parts of vehicles are seen in many of the ads — the vehicles are in dark, monochromatic colors and are not the center of attention. "We've made this conscious effort in our advertising, in our social media and in our photography to be much more refined, much more elegant and much more modern-looking," said Schorr. More modern The campaign is not a preview of what's to come in 2025, Schorr says. That's when the Jaguar EVs arrive, all priced north of $100,000 and likely to be direct competitors to Bentley, Aston Martin and other brands with six-figure price tags. "It's not the launch of the new brand in 2025, but it is reflective of our overall corporate desire for all of our brands to be much more modern, much more contemporary, much more innovative, provocative and sometimes even mysterious," he said. The campaign also is part of Jaguar Land Rover's larger move to have dealers improve their facilities, which most have done, creating showrooms for each brand under one roof. The dealerships, aimed at improving the luxury buying experience, are equipped with areas that allow customers to sort through samples of interior fabrics and trim, paint colors and accessories and then custom-order their vehicles. The efforts reflect Jaguar Land Rover's move upmarket. Land Rover also has a growing lineup of vehicles that are priced over $100,000, and more are coming. Jaguar has been in a tough spot since the COVID-19 outbreak and microchip shortage. Production has been cut, sales are down, and scarce chips are going to in-demand and highly profitable Land Rover vehicles. The company is working off a backlog of 86,000 paid customer orders for the redesigned Range Rover and for the rugged Defender off-roader. But Schorr says the chip situation is improving and Jaguar production will increase starting this quarter. Exclusive editions There will still be some ads that focus on horsepower figures, 0-to-60-mph times and selling the deal. With current Jaguar models scheduled to end production by 2025, and no major changes coming, the plan to keep consumer interest stoked is to roll out exclusive, expensive limited production models such as the Jaguar F-Pace SVR Edition 1988, of which just 394 will be made. The vehicle starts at more than $111,000. The Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 Edition, which celebrates the launch of the classic E-Type in 1961, is another limited edition model. Just 60 were made, all starting at more than $135,000. Harper's Bazaar, Elle and Esquire are three of the magazines that will feature the new ads. Videos will appear on the magazines' social media. Road & Track will also run the ads. JLR officials would not say how much they are spending on the campaign or how long it will run. Said Schorr: "We're just at the beginning of this journey." (ANE)

  6. Polestar will turn O2 concept into next halo car The Polestar 6, a likely Porsche 911 rival, will be the Volvo subsidiary's most powerful, most expensive model when it arrives in 2026. The Polestar 6 hardtop convertible will be built alongside the Polestar 5 electric luxury sedan in Chongqing, China. Polestar said Tuesday it will turn its O2 concept into its next halo car, which is likely to be aimed at the Porsche 911. The 650-kilowatt (872-hp), 200,000 euro full-electric roadster, which will be called the Polestar 6, will be the automaker's most powerful and most expensive model when it arrives in 2026. The brand's most powerful and expensive model now is the Polestar 1, which offers more than 600 hp and starts at 155,000 euros. Meanwhile, the Polestar 3 premium large SUV, which will debut in October, is expected to start at 75,000 euros. Polestar will build the hardtop convertible alongside the Polestar 5 electric luxury sedan in Chongqing, China. The plant is owned by Geely Holding but operated by Polestar, which was co-founded by Volvo Cars and Geely in 2017. The cars will share Polestar's new lightweight bonded-aluminum platform and an 800-volt electric architecture that in addition to providing nearly 900 hp of power will offer 900 newton meters of torque, 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) acceleration in 3.2 seconds, a top speed of 250 kph (155 mph) and an estimated range of more than 480 km (300 miles). Polestar previewed what to expect from the Polestar 5, which is due in 2024, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in June. The four-door GT will be aimed at the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S as well as EVs from Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Lucid. Like the Polestar 6, the Polestar 5 started as a concept, called the Precept, that evolved into the brand's future flagship grand tourer. *Polestar currently aligns its estimated starting prices with Porsche models. For instance, the Polestar 3's 75,000-euro base price is in line with the Porsche Cayenne, which starts at about 83,000 euros in Germany. The Polestar 4 and Polestar 5, for which no official prices have been given, will align with the Porsche Macan and Porsche Panamera, which start at about 66,000 euros and 98,000 euros, respectively, in Germany. The current 911 Turbo Cabriolet starts in about 212,000 euros in Porsche's home market. Niche within a niche The only battery-powered open-top model sold in Europe now is the Smart ForTwo Cabriolet, which had a volume of less than 7,100 last year, according to market research Dataforce. The premium convertible segment, where the Polestar 6 would compete, is led by the Mini, BMW 4 Series and 911 while in the U.S. the niche's top-sellers are the Chevrolet Corvette and 911. Between 2004 and 2021, the Europe's overall convertible market declined from 397,480 to 117,753, according to Dataforce. "Even the Ford Mustang and Jaguar F-Type are struggling to reach 1,000 new registrations a year in Europe," Dataforce Senior Automotive Analyst Benjamin Kibies told Automotive News Europe. "But a sporty electric convertible would be the first of its kind and definitely attract attention for the brand." Ed Kim, who is president of U.S.-based automotive research and consulting firm AutoPacific, agrees. "As a six-figure electric sports car, the Polestar 6 will not be a high-volume product, but it will shine a spotlight onto the Polestar brand," AutoPacific President Ed Kim said. "With its portfolio of volume products fleshed out, it's appropriate for the brand to think about brand extension products that can inspire consumers who hadn't yet considered a Polestar to take notice." 'Overwhelming' response Polestar decided to make the Polestar 6 because of "the overwhelming consumer and press response" for the car, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said in a release. To capitalize on that momentum, Polestar said it will start taking orders for the first 500 units of the hardtop convertible today. The cost to reserve a so-called "build slot" for car is $25,000, which is refundable. Polestar nearly matches 2021 volume with 125% first-half sales increase Those numbered units will be part of the Polestar 6 LA Concept edition, which will carry over the sky blue exterior, light leather interior and 21-inch wheels from the Polestar O2 concept, which the automaker debuted on the rooftop of a Beverley Hills office building in March. At that event, Polestar design boss Maximilian Missoni hinted the O2 was destined to be more than a show car. It is "not so far away from reality," Missoni told Automotive News Europe sister publication Automotive News at the time. The O2 sits low and wide and features short front and rear overhangs, a compact 2+2 cabin design and a long wheelbase. Aerodynamics are maximized through disguised design features, such as integrated ducts that improve airflow over the wheels and body sides and rear lights that function as air blades to reduce turbulence behind the car. HALO, PEBBLE BEACH It is not a coincidence that Polestar is revealing news about its forthcoming halo car right before an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance planned for this weekend in California. In 2018, the Volvo Cars subsidiary made an appearance at the exclusive event to show off its first halo car, the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid premium coupe. At the time Polestar was barely a year old as a stand-alone brand. It had no vehicles on the road and no sales outlets. Today, Polestar is a Nasdaq-listed company that aims to have a presence in 30 countries by year-end and plans to increase sales to 290,000 by 2025 from 29,000 last year. The Polestar 6, like the Polestar 1 in 2018, provides a glimpse into its future, the company said. Missoni described the O2 as a "meeting point between technology and art, between precision and sculpture." "It's an amazing piece of design, but I could drive it tomorrow," he added. The new halo car's production confirmation also comes days ahead of the brand's attendance later this week at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where the O2 concept will be featured. Polestar's last visit to Pebble Beach coincided with another key moment in the 5-year-old brand's history (see box, right). It has been an eventful year for the automaker, which despite seriously supply setbacks nearly sold as many cars in the first half as it did in all of 2021. In June, Polestar joined the Nasdaq in an $890 million deal. In April, the company said rental car firm Hertz Global Holdings would buy up to 65,000 EVs from over five years in a deal that sources estimate is worth $3 billion. (ANE)
  10. The new SUV is the first Chinese production car to be built on the 800v high voltage SiC platform. It can get 200 km worth of electric juice within 5 minutes of charging. XPeng’s 800V high-voltage charging system has a max charging power of 480 kW and a max current of 670 A. When fully charged, the G9 has a CLTC driving range of 701 km, XPeng said. Additionally, XPeng stated that the G9 SUV is its first vehicle designed for the international market, and as such it meets both local and international safety standards. The G9 is equipped with Gigabit Ethernet communication architecture, and two NVIDIA DRIVE Orin chips with a combined computing power of 508 TOPs. The automaker stated that buyers who paid the 2,000 yuan deposit will get a discount on options of up to 5,000 yuan when they order the SUV. Furthermore, XPeng revealed that the G9 will come with a 3D UI human-computer interaction system. The car will also be equipped with a next generation Qualcomm 8155 chip, the same smart cockpit chip used in the Li Auto L9 and the Zeekr 001. According to XPeng, the G9 is a ‘fast-charging all-intelligent’ model which is here to ‘solve users’ range anxiety’. Although pricing information was not released, there are speculations that the SUV will be around the 350,000 yuan mark, and XPeng CEO, He Xiaopeng, had already hinted that it will be under 500,000 yuan ($75,000).
  11. BYD-Powered Tesla Model Y Approved By The EU The new BYD-powered entry-level Tesla Model Y reportedly received EU approval, granted by the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) on July 1, 2022, according to Teslamag.de, a German media. There were rumors of a collaboration between BYD and Tesla since August 2021. At that time, some media reported that BYD would supply Tesla with Blade batteries in the second quarter of 2022 and that Tesla vehicles equipped with Blade batteries were entering the testing phase. Yesterday, we reported that the first supplies of the BYD Blade batteries have already been delivered to Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory in Germany, and the Berlin-manufactured Model Y will be the first Tesla model to be equipped with the BYD Blade batteries. This new entry-level Model Y is referred to as ‘Type 005’ and is internally known as the ‘Y7CR’ variant. Its battery capacity is 55 kWh with a 440 km cruising range and weights 2087 kg. On the other hand, Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory has no plan to use BYD’s Blade batteries in the short term, according to a person from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. Currently, Tesla’s major battery suppliers are LG Energy Solution, Panasonic, and CATL. Last year, Tesla became CATL’s largest single customer by purchasing 13 billion RMB (1.9 billion USD) worth of power batteries from CATL. In April this year, the domestic market share of BYD’s power batteries in China rose to 32.18%, while CATL still ranked first with 38.28% of the domestic market share. The batteries produced by Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas, USA will most likely supply to the North American market first. After the demand for Model Y models in the North American market is satisfied, then these batteries will be supplied to the Chinese, European, and other markets. Right now, BYD is gaining great momentum in the battery market. Earlier this year in June, BYD was reportedly looking to purchase six African lithium mines, which can meet its battery needs for the next ten years. Furthermore, NIO and Xiaomi both signed a cooperation agreement with BYD’s wholly-owned battery company, Fudi Battery, to use BYD’s Blade battery. (carnewschina)
  12. VW's MEB platform will underpin five Mahindra electric SUVs Mahindra, which is the second customer for VW Group's MEB platform after Ford, will launch its electric SUVs under the XUV and BE brands. Mahindra & Mahindra has unveiled five electric SUVs based on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform as the automaker seeks to expedite its lagging switch to battery-powered cars in India. Mahindra is the second customer for VW Group's MEB platform after Ford, which will begin production this year of an MEB-based electric SUV built in its plant in Cologne, Germany. The Mahindra electric SUVs will be sold under two brands -- XUV and BE, the automaker said in a video presentation on Monday. The vehicles were conceptualized at the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe in the UK. They will be underpinned by Mahindra's new Inglo electric platform, which will offer battery capacity ranging from 60 to 80 kilowatt hours and fast-charging of up to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes, Mahindra said. It did not specify the range of the EVs. More than 1 million vehicles will be produced by the brands over the duration of the deal, VW said in a statement. "The partnership not only demonstrates that our platform business is highly competitive, but also that the MEB is well on track to become one of the leading open platforms for e-mobility," Volkswagen management board member Thomas Schmall said. Schmall declined to provide firm numbers but said that the agreement would translate into a significant operating result that he said would be comparable to a medium-sized brand within the VW Group. Mahindra's VW-based SUVs will be called the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 and the BE.09. The first of the five electric SUVs will be launched by the end of 2024 in India while other four should be out by 2026, Mahindra said. Mahindra has said it expects electric models to account for 20 to 30 percent of its total SUV sales by March 2027. The company sells some of India's most popular combustion-engine SUVs, including the Scorpio and Thar. Producing a range of clean vehicles is crucial for Mahindra to break the dominance of rival Tata Motors in India’s nascent electric car market. Mahindra is a local leader in electric three-wheelers, but currently sells only one electric car, the e-Verito, despite having a first-mover advantage with its purchase of an India-based EV maker in 2010. India's adoption of EVs has fallen behind other major countries such as China due to sparse charging infrastructure and the high upfront cost of battery-powered cars. Decarbonizing transport is key for India, which is the world's third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, to meet its goal of becoming net-carbon zero by 2070. In a sign of how the market is getting crowded, Indian ride-hailing firm Ola Electric said on Monday that it plans to start producing electric cars in 2024 with a range of up to 500 km (310 miles) and prices of less than $50,000. 13. ...World senza I e F solo I solo F
  20. Secondo me un peccato che hai venduta! Si, forse hai ragione con la anonimita, ma sicuramente per un futuro della automotive molto piu importante come uns Facelift della Giulia dove qui dentro si discute in centnaie pagine del topic.
  21. Secondo me hai assolutamente ragione!
  22. ...BMW ha contratti validi con CATL, Samsung SDI, Northvolt und Eve Energy 😉
  23. ....V8 sara anche in Europa, dove saranno anche i diesel 😉
  24. Maserati Ghibli to be discontinued in 2024, V8 also going away The next-generation Quattroporte will be smaller. When Maserati announced its Folgore electrification plan earlier this year, it didn't mention the Ghibli at all. It led to speculations about Modena's smaller saloon getting the axe sooner or later, and now we know its cut-off date. The company's Australia general manager Grant Barling told Drive the luxury sports saloon "will move into run-out phase into 2024." Interestingly, he also detailed what the future has in tow for the Quattroporte. Already confirmed to get a purely electric version, the new four-door Maserati is actually going to be smaller than today's model. That rarely happens in the automotive industry as cars tend to get bigger and bigger with the next generation. Grant Barling explained the Quattroporte will be about the same size as the outgoing Ghibli. One of the oldest cars in the premium segment, the third-gen Ghibli has been around since 2013 and it's safe to say no one is surprised the car is living on borrowed time. With the proliferation of crossovers and SUVs, Maserati's ageing entry-level saloon will be another victim of customers shifting to high-riding offerings. Speaking of which, the next-gen Levante has been confirmed and is going to get an EV version much like the smaller Grecale. Grant Barling also announced the twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine of Ferrari origins used in the Trofeo-spec Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante is also going to be discontinued. That doesn't come as a big shock seeing as how the company with the Trident logo now has its very own twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 dubbed Nettuno. The smaller-displacement engine won't be available for more than seven years or so since Maserati has already signalled the ICE's demise by going purely electric in 2030. Before that happens, the MC20 supercar will get an EV version, much like all of the company's future products. (Motor1)
