MINI Countryman by Prodrive (Spy)

Prodrive is working on a hot version of the Mini Countyman, as these scoop pictures exclusively reveal. The Banbury-based engineering firm runs Mini’s works World Rally Championship outfit and team principal and Prodrive boss Dave Richards has previously told Autocar that Prodrive-tuned Mini road cars were possible.

“Mini obviously has the Cooper and John Cooper Works brands and it will want to work out ways of harnessing this campaign, its rally heritage and those giant-killing acts of the 1960s through its road cars,” said Richards.

This heavily modified all-wheel-drive Countryman Cooper S features a muscular body kit that includes a large fixed carbonfibre wing, along with custom unbranded alloy wheels.

Performance upgrades include a Prodrive-branded Milltek exhaust and a Superchips-tuned version of the Cooper S’s turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine. Sources have indicated that the car had run 230bhp on the dyno, but Superchips is still hoping for even more power and a larger turbo was under consideration.

Mini has yet to officially reveal the range-topping Countryman JCW performance model.

Ma dubito nel successo commerciale dell'operazione, a meno di non lavorare molto sulla ciclistica e metterci se possibile un motore più grande: se ci hanno fatto stare il 2000 a nafta, il benzina della stessa cubatura dovrebbe entrarci... in Prodrive dovrebbero essere in grado di "girare di 90° il motore.... a meno che in BMW ce l'abbiano già pronto per futuri sviluppi....

P.S. la WRC, il cui sviluppo è stato curato dalla stessa Prodrive, non è che stia proprio brillando come risultati... passo lungo, contro tutte le altre a passo corto....

beh, 2 podi (un terzo ed un secondo posto) negli ultimi 2 rally, nell'anno di esordio in cui non partecipano a tutta la stagione, non mi sembrano affatto scarsi come risultati..

Da addetto ai lavori non la penso così... molti risultati sono stati dati dal caso (ritiri avversari...ma questo è lo sport)... ammetto che è un'auto ancora acerba, ma tuttti partivano da 0 o quasi (solo Ford aveva una base già collaudata), comunque in gara si vede bene che paga il fatto di avere quella variante di carrozzeria: è molto meno agile delle concorrenti, l'avessero fatta sulla 3 porte sarebbe stato molto meglio.
