Vento di novità a venire per il marchio dell'elica:

E' stata confermata la nuova BMW X4, versione "sportiva" della X3, che si riallaccerà al concetto di SAV coniato da X5 ed X6 in particolare.

L'auto sarà derivata dalla X3, ma avrà una connotazione molto sportiva a cominciare dal nuovo montante A molto più inclinato e dal montante C che terminerà in stile coupè.

In effetti sarà più vicina come linea alla 5Gt (come volumi) che alla X6.

Sarà presentata come Concept al salone di Parigi dell'anno prossimo per una successiva produzione nel 2013/2014.

Inoltre si lanceranno - ma non è del tutto sicuro che entrambe arrivino sul mercato - due versioni di punta per la X3.

La versione 35is con il 6 cilindri TPT e la punta di diamante ///M. Ma ancora non è trapelato nulla più di una singola indiscrezione.

Sicura è invece la X3 ActiveHybrid che come la sorella X6 avrà dalla sua una serie di accorgimenti elettromeccanici che le consentiranno di esser più benevola con l'ambiente e di percorrere pochi chilometri in modalità completamente elettrica (Tecnologia EREV).

Inoltre, BMW sta testando a ritmo serrato due nuovi 4 cilindri - gasolio e benzina - che debutteranno su X3 il prossimo anno, coinvolgendo anche il mercato USA.

Il mio sentore è che siano proprio il nuovo 2.0 litri biturbo diesel ed il 4L 1.6 Turbo benzina.

BMW is planning a sporting version of the second-generation X3 with its own, distinctive look. The car, depicted here in Autocar’s exclusive computer-generated rendering, will extend BMW’s already strong presence within the toughly fought premium SUV market.

Smaller and more agile than the X3, the new four-seater is expected to be badged X4 when it goes on sale in 2014. And in keeping with the new four-wheel-drive’s sporting brief, BMW’s plans also call for a range-topping X4 M version, previewed in our rendering.

The X4 has been conceived along similar lines to the successful X6, some 112,500 of which have now rolled out of BMW’s Spartanburg factory in North America, placing it well ahead of earlier sales targets. On going investment and expansion at Spartanburg have increased its annual capacity from 160,000 to 240,000, providing the necessary scope for North American production of the future X4.

Individual styling

Although the X4 shares the same floorpan, drivelines, chassis and hard points as the X3, it is set to receive its own individual styling in a move intended to give it a more sporting image and enable BMW to position it higher than the SUV upon which it is based.

Those who have seen the latest design proposals suggest that the X4 differs from the X3 in much the same way that the X6 is distinguished from the X5, with a bullish front end, curved coupé-style roofline and heavily angled tailgate. “The design is not finalised but we know the direction and it will likely surprise,” said our source.

As with its larger sibling, the exterior design changes are set to make it less practical than its more upright sibling, with reductions in headroom and luggage capacity. However, strong sales of the X6 have convinced BMW bosses that customers are prepared to forgo everyday usability in the name of style.

The car is also depicted in a pair of official BMW sketches. Although they reveal a three-door model badged X3, they hint strongly at the X4's design, mainly its roofline and front-end styling; BMW sources insist that too much shouldn't be read into the fact it has three doors.

Production ready?

BMW’s answer to the Porsche Cajun — Stuttgart’s new three-door SUV, which is due for launch in 2013 — was first proposed by in-house designers back in 2006. However, capacity concerns at Magna in Austria, where the first X3 was made, ultimately led BMW to postpone a decision on the car’s future until production switched to Spartanburg — something that has been realised with the second-generation X3.

“With the move into North America, we’re able to take advantage of greater production flexibility,” a

high-ranking BMW official revealed to Autocar at the recent Paris motor show in direct reference to the X4.

While stopping short of confirming a definitive production green light for the new SUV, Autocar’s source suggested it already had the backing of the company’s chief executive, Norbert Reithofer.

Competitors

As well as the Cajun, BMW will level the X4 at the Audi Q5, Saab 94 and yet to be introduced compact four-wheel-drive offering from Alfa Romeo, which is due in 2012 and will form a central role in its plans to return to the US market.

Influencing BMW’s decision to push ahead with the X4 is the continued slow sales of sporting estate cars in North America. “We see this car competing in the same price bracket as premium wagons,” said a source. “We think it will appeal particularly to US buyers.”

Engines and layout

Although it is still early days, the X4 is expected to come with a choice of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines mated to a six-speed manual, seven-speed double-clutch or optional eight-speed automatic gearbox. As with the X3, BMW does not plan a two-wheel-drive version. “We’re only considering four-wheel drive,” confirmed one source.

It will be allied to BMW’s latest electronically controlled Dynamic Performance Control system, which provides an individual apportioning of drive to each rear wheel dependent upon prevailing traction.

Sitting at the top of the line-up will be a performance-orientated X4 M model boasting styling upgrades and a next-generation in-line six-cylinder engine with twin turbochargers from BMW’s M division. The X4’s double-wishbone (front) and multi-link (rear) suspension will be tuned to deliver more engaging handling than the X3.

There will be a lowered ride height, reduced wheel travel, uprated anti-roll bars and unique spring and dampers that will feature variable control.

interessante il fatto che in USA con questo modello apparentemente cercheranno di accalappiare quei clienti che una volta erano dediti alle SW di stampo sportivo-premium, mercato che in USA e' nettamente in declino. Cosa ssolutamente declinabile su questa sponda dell'atlantico

In un’intervista rilasciata ad un noto magazine tedesco il CEO BMW Norbert Reithofer ha confermato ufficialmente che la X4 sarà prodotta. Attualmente non sono state rilasciate altre informazioni ufficiali sul modello , ma è logico aspettarsi che piattaforma costruttiva e motori saranno interamente derivati dalla X3. Da quest’ultima deriverà anche il linguaggio stilistico della seconda SUV-coupè della casa dell’elica; esattamente come dalla X5 sono derivati gli stilemi della X6.

Secondo le prime indiscrezioni, la nuova X4 avrà una lunghezza di circa 4.65 metri. Noi aggiungiamo che, molto probabilmente, anche l’altezza del corpo vettura sarà sensibilmente ridotta rispetto a quella della X3: ciò garantirebbe un baricentro più basso, a tutto vantaggio del comportamento stradale. Non è escluso l’arrivo di una variante M.

Adesso posso davvero dormire sonni tranquilli.

Voglio proprio vedere cosa combinano: la gamma SUV di Monaco non é esattamente un bijoux in quanto a stile (si salva solo X5 nonostante il facelift tamarro dell'anno scorso), con questa o fanno un capolavoro in stile Evoque oppure...

E chissà perché adesso come adesso mi sento di puntare tutto sull'oppure...

BMW executives have been teasing us for a while now about the firm's plans to introduce a smaller version of the X6 SAV and today, the company came out with an official announcement confirming the X4.

The new X4 will be built alongside the current X3, X5 and X6 crossovers at the Bavarian company's U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. For this reason, BMW will invest more than US$900 million in the Spartanburg factory over the next three years creating some 300 new jobs by the end of 2012.

“This is in response to rising global demand for our BMW X models and the expansion of the BMW X family to include the BMW X4,” says BMW board member, Frank-Peter Arndt, during a ceremony to celebrate production of the two-millionth vehicle at the BMW plant in South Carolina since 1994.

Arndt added that the investment would allow the factory to increase its annual production to 350,000 units in the mid-term.

BMW has not released any information on the X4, though in a previous interview, the brand's CEO Norbert Reithofer said that it will measure around 4.65 meters long (same as the X3) and use the same four- and six-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines found in the X3.

The X4 will be positioned between the X3 and the X5 sporting a more aggressive design with a coupe like roofline. Likely rivals including the upcoming Porsche Cajun and possibly a similar model from Audi.

A recent report indicates that BMW will introduce the X4 in January at Detroit Motor Show.It will be presented in concept form that will be followed in 2014 by the production version. Known internally as F26, the new X4 will use the same platform as the X3 and will cost less than the X5.AutoWeek is reporting that it will be 4.65 meters (183 inches) long, the same length as the X3 (F25).

The styling differences between the X3 and X4 will be along the same lines as the differences between the X5 and X6. A swooping roofline is expected, along with an updated front fascia and an angled one-piece tailgate. The baby Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) will feature BMW’s latest design language mixed with the design lines seen on the X6.

Power will be provided by the same engines found on the X3, with four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. At the end of 2014 BMW might decide to launch the more potent X4 M with a 6-cylinder twin-turbo gasoline engine, the one that will power the upcoming M3. There also might be an X4 M with a tri-turbo 3.0-liter diesel engine.

The 2013 BMW X4 will be manufactured at the Spartanburg factory located in South Carolina.
