Celle combustibile o Fuel Cell dovrebbe essere la tecnologia usata per i motori a idrogeno.

però molti adetti al settore sono scettici su un effettivo utilizzo nel mondo dell'automobile, sono più propensi per un uso sui grandi mezzi di trasporto navale e per la produzione anche di punto (domestica) e industriale dell'energia elettrica.Nel campo navale il primo esempio è di tipo militare con la nuova classe di sommergibili di attacco italo-tedesca U-212:

... Le Alfa del futuro, Mazda a parte, dovrebbero essere ingegnerizzate là. Ma io dovrei comprare un'Alfa fatta dagli ingegneri della Chrysler ?

In realtà il più grosso problema dell'idrogeno è "produrlo". Nell'atmosfera ci sono grosse riserve di idrogeno ma per raccoglierlo e conservarlo allo stato liquido è necessario sprecare quasi la stessa energia che esso fornisce con le celle combustibili, rendendolo per ora non conveniente.

Tornando IT, è un peccato che nessun marchio italiano sia sul mercato statunitense per occupare le quote di mercato perse dagli americani lasciandole in mano a tedeschi e giapponesi.
