Tristezza

Più che altro, se continuano così mi sa che perdiamo anche sto marchio. Hanno presentato l'Exige Roadster, ma non è ancora giunta sui mercati. Parlavano di Evora Roadster, han presentato una sorta di teaser e non è mai stata presentata. Adesso dovevano presentare l'Esprit, ma a quanto pare l'hanno uccisa... (per non parlare dei mirabolanti concept presentati nel 2010).

Two years ago, we were gobsmacked when humble Lotus shocked the automotive world by wheeling out no fewer than five new models – admittedly in various stages of development – at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The ambitious onslaught of new sheetmetal came at the behest of then-CEO Danny Bahar who aimed to broaden the British marque's appeal by dramatically expanding its portfolio. Bahar was later thrown out by new Malaysian owners DRB-Hicom in a management shakeup that seems to still be, well, shaking out. Bahar was deposed over accusations of financial wrongdoing and the controversial executive has fired back with a $10.6M lawsuit.

Against this chaotic background, a cornerstone of Lotus' revival plans hinged on he rebirth of its Esprit supercar (shown in 2010 concept form above). According to new reports, however, the Esprit has been cancelled, a victim of the company's uncertain finances and direction. Depending on which rumor you choose to believe, the two-seat coupe was slated to receive a house-built V8 and possibly turbocharging or hybrid power. That may all be moot now, however, as DRB-Hicom is reported to have scrapped Bahar's plans wholesale, a development that apparently includes killing off the mid-engined Esprit, too.

UPDATE: And this, friends, is why we have this story with a question mark and a Rumormill tag – Lotus is denying that the Esprit has been killed off.

Più che altro temo sia una dichiarazione di questo genere:

La tanto chiacchierata Lotus Esprit, a quanto pare, si farà. Sono molte ormai le notizie che danno la conferma del progetto da parte della casa costruttrice di dare finalmente il via libera alla produzione di questa vettura. L’ultima voce in tal senso è stata quella di Aslam Farikullah, CEO del gruppo malese DRB-HICOM, proprietario del brand inglese.

Non solo: tutti i 1.189 posti di lavoro inglesi sarebbero al sicuro dato che saranno anche aggiornati i modelli attualmente in produzione: Elise, Exige ed Evora. Per il momento quindi sembra che il futuro della Lotus sia un po’ meno difficile, nonostante le sole 800 immatricolazioni di quest’anno, di cui solo un centinaio in Inghilterra.

Se La Lotus Esprit sarà effettivamente prodotta, a quanto riporta Autoexpress lo stesso non può dirsi invece degli altri modelli annunciati nel corso del Salone di Parigi 2010 che a quanto pare sarebbero stati cancellati dai progetti del marchio, assente all’edizione di quest’anno della kermesse francese.

La f1 come la pagano? Certo che è un vero peccato che il progetto "new lotus" sia tramontato cosi, non vedo un gran futuro per il marchio
