Rüsselsheim.  The first hydrogen transporter from a vehicle manufacturer is ready to go. The first Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN off the production line will begin its emissions-free work in the fleet of the German manufacturer of premium domestic appliances, Miele. The hydrogen fuel cell vehicle from the brand with the Blitz will perform daily field service in the Rhine-Main region. Opel CEO Uwe Hochgeschurtz and Head of Development Marcus Lott were present at the start of production in Rüsselsheim.

“With the new Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN we are opening the next chapter in our sustainable mobility offensive. The clever concept combines the advantages of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion with the versatility and capabilities of our best-selling light commercial vehicle,” said Opel CEO Hochgeschurtz at Opel's headquarters in Rüsselsheim.

Head of Development Marcus Lott added: “The new Vivaro-e HYDROGEN perfectly meets the requirements of fleet customers. The hydrogen van is the ideal solution for driving long distances with zero emissions as well as for transporting larger loads without losing time while charging the batteries. The Opel Vivaro-e HYDROGEN leads zero-emissions mobility into the future, especially for commercial use.”

Clever concept: Long driving range, zero emissions, quick refuelling

The Vivaro-e HYDROGEN is based on the existing battery electric Opel Vivaro-e, the “2021 International Van of the Year”. With full tanks of hydrogen, the driving range is more than 400 kilometres (WLTP1). The 45 kW fuel cell is capable of generating enough power for continuous highway driving. It takes only three minutes to refuel with hydrogen – about the same time needed to fill up a conventional diesel or petrol vehicle.

The 10.5 kWh lithium-ion battery provides dynamic peak power when required, for example, at start-up and under acceleration. Since the battery covers power needs in such situations, the fuel cell can run at optimum operating conditions. The battery also enables regenerative braking, while the plug-in capability offers the opportunity to recharge the battery externally if necessary, e.g. at a charging station, providing 50 km of pure battery electric range. The Vivaro-e HYDROGEN features a three-phase on-board charger (11 kW) and a mode 2 charging cable as standard.

Thanks to smart packaging, the Vivaro-e HYDROGEN demands no compromises on space compared to the combustion engine versions, offering up to 5.3 or 6.1 cubic metres of cargo volume. The fuel cell electric LCV is available in lengths M and L (4.95 and 5.30 metres) with up to 1,000 kilogrammes of payload.

Like its battery-electric sibling and those with internal combustion engines, the Vivaro-e HYDROGEN offers an unusually wide range of driver assistance systems that enhance safety. The equipment includes a 180-degree panorama rear view camera, blind-spot alert and front/rear park pilot.

 

The Multimedia Navi Pro infotainment system operates via voice recognition or colour touchscreen and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The navigation system offers maps for Europe, dynamic route guidance and TMC. Users can also cool or heat the vehicle during recharging via “OpelConnect” and programme charging times with the “myOpel” app.

The new Vivaro-e HYDROGEN benefits from more than 20 years of experience in the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at Opel and Stellantis. Production takes place at Opel Special Vehicles (OSV) in Rüsselsheim. With the new Vivaro-e HYDROGEN, Opel is continuing its electrification offensive. Customers have the choice of selecting the drive concept in the Opel LCV portfolio that suits their application. The Vivaro-e HYDROGEN complements the Combo-e, Vivaro-e and Movano-e battery-electric vans that are already available to order.

CITROËN CONSEGNA IL SUO PRIMO Ë-JUMPY HYDROGEN AL GRUPPO SUEZ

UN’ARCHITETTURA EFFICIENTE PER RISPONDERE ALLE ASPETTATIVE

«Per il nostro veicolo a idrogeno, abbiamo scelto un'architettura cosiddetta "mid-power" (di media potenza) che associa il meglio dell'elettrico con una batteria agli ioni di litio da 10,5 kWh, una pila a combustibile da 45 kW e un dispositivo di stoccaggio dell'idrogeno da 4,4 kg, per offrire un'autonomia completa di oltre 400 km nel ciclo WLTP. In particolare, la batteria assicura una potenza immediata nelle fasi di avviamento o di accelerazione e permette anche un buon recupero di energia. La pila a combustibile garantisce l'autonomia del veicolo.  Il dimensionamento utilizzato e l'integrazione risultante ci hanno permesso di offrire un veicolo commerciale senza compromessi, poiché abbiamo mantenuto una delle sue caratteristiche principali, che è il volume di carico (identico a quello dei suoi modelli elettrici e termici equivalenti).»

AUTONOMIA ESTESA

Ë-Jumpy Hydrogen è dotato di due sistemi di propulsione complementari: una batteria che immagazzina energia e fornisce elettricità e una pila a combustibile che converte l’idrogeno e l’ossigeno dell'aria in elettricità, acqua e calore. Finché è alimentato a idrogeno, questo generatore di energia funziona in continuo. Il motore elettrico, alimentato principalmente dalla pila a idrogeno da 45 kW, è quindi in grado di sviluppare un'autonomia estesa di quasi 350 km. La batteria agli ioni di litio da 10,5 kWh funge da riserva per un'autonomia di 50 km nel ciclo WLTP. Fornisce anche una potenza supplementare al motore, che è necessaria per garantire le prestazioni dinamiche del veicolo, soprattutto in fase di accelerazione. Permette anche di recuperare energia durante la decelerazione e la frenata. L’associazione di questi due componenti garantisce un’autonomia di oltre 400 km.

 

RICARICA RAPIDA

La ricarica di ë-Jumpy Hydrogen è 20 volte più rapida di quella di un veicolo elettrico (effettuata da una colonnina di ricarica pubblica da 100 kW). Ciò significa che ci vogliono solo 3 minuti per riempire i tre serbatoi di idrogeno, che hanno una capacità di stoccaggio utile fino a 4,4 kg. Ciò permette di risparmiare tempo e aumenta la produttività di tutte le aziende che non possono lasciare i loro veicoli immobilizzati durante il processo di ricarica e quindi beneficiano di un tempo di utilizzo più lungo.

 

CAPACITÀ E PRATICITÀ INVARIATE

Come per i suoi furgoni elettrici - ë-Berlingo Van, ë-Jumpy e ë-Jumper - CITROËN ha fatto in modo che il volume di carico di ë-Jumpy Hydrogen non fosse impattato dall'integrazione della batteria e dei serbatoi di idrogeno, per permettere ai clienti di beneficiare del valore aggiunto di questa nuova tecnologia ma senza rinunciare alle capacità di carico del veicolo, che sono la principale esigenza dei professionisti di questo segmento. Per preservare la funzione primaria del veicolo commerciale ë-Jumpy Hydrogen, che è quella di trasportare frequentemente oggetti ingombranti e pesanti, la batteria è stata installata sotto i sedili e i tre serbatoi di idrogeno sotto al pianale. Di conseguenza, i volumi utili delle due silhouette sono invariati rispetto alle versioni elettriche: 5,3 m3 sulla misura M e 6,1 m3 sulla misura XL. Allo stesso modo, il carico utile e il carico rimorchiabile possono arrivare fino a 1.000 kg, come sulle versioni con motore termico.

CITROËN ë-Jumpy Hydrogen, assemblato in Francia nello stabilimento di SevelNord, viene trasformato nel centro di competenza sulla pila a combustibile a idrogeno del Gruppo STELLANTIS a Russelsheim, in Germania.

NEW PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen, HISTORY : PRODUCTION HAS STARTED

This is a historic moment, the very first production Hydrogen vehicle from PEUGEOT has just left its production line on December 13th 2021. PEUGEOT becomes one of the very first manufacturers to offer, in addition to its combustion and battery electric versions, a hydrogen fuel cell powered version in the commercial vehicle segment.

Linda JACKSON, CEO of the PEUGEOT brand, said: “With the e-EXPERT Hydrogen, PEUGEOT is taking the lead in a future zero-emission technology that is particularly relevant to the light commercial vehicle market: hydrogen electric technology allows intensive daily use without the need for recharging, a decisive advantage for professionals who, in a single day, have to cover several hundred kilometres on the motorway and then enter emission-restricted urban areas. The hydrogen technology developed by Stellantis and implemented in our PEUGEOT e-Expert Hydrogen makes such uses possible.”

 

The PEUGEOT hydrogen van stands out thanks to the perfect integration of the entire "mid-power plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric" system in its engine compartment and underbody. The result: no compromise in terms of load volume, and a low centre of gravity, a guarantee of stability, safety and agility.

The PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen can now start to be delivered. The first customer, which will be delivered before the end of the year holidays, is WATEA by MICHELIN, the young subsidiary dedicated to green mobility solutions in the MICHELIN group.

The e-EXPERT Hydrogen, which will go into production at the end of 2021, is the latest symbol of the brand's "Extended power of choice" strategy, enabling customers to choose from a wide range of engines that are best suited to their specific needs.

The hydrogen fuel cell electric version goes to show the rapid deployment of the Peugeot EXPERT range’s electrified offer. Its production launch comes barely 15 months after the launch of the battery-powered e-EXPERT model in 2020, which was named International Van of the Year in early 2021 and is the sixth PEUGEOT vehicle to win this prestigious award since 1992.

The PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is based on the battery powered e-EXPERT. It is first produced in France, at the Hordain site (Nord, Hauts de France), then built in Germany at Rüsselsheim, on the production lines of the Stellantis competence centre dedicated to hydrogen technology.

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen innovates with a "mid-power plug-in hydrogen fuel cell electric" system specific to STELLANTIS, and consisting of :

  • fuel cell producing the electricity needed to propel the vehicle thanks to the hydrogen on board the tank,
  • A high-voltage lithium-ion rechargeable battery with a capacity of 10.5 kWh, which can be recharged from the electricity grid and which also powers the electric engine in certain driving phases.

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is distinguished by:

  • Its ability to cover all distances without local CO2 emissions,
  • Its ability to fill up with hydrogen in 3 minutes for more than 400 km of autonomy in the WLTP homologation cycle (under homologation),
  • A charging socket for the high-voltage battery,
  • 2 lengths available (Standard and Long) with the same loading volume characteristics as the diesel and battery electric versions,
  • Up to 6.1m³ load volume,
  • Up to 1000 kg payload,
  • Up to 1000 kg of towing capacity,
  • Its adaptability to all road and motorway conditions, with a maximum speed of 130 km/h

The new PEUGEOT e-EXPERT Hydrogen is technologically innovative and has a strong character. It can be driven anywhere, even in city centres, silently and without CO2 emissions, and requires no compromise in terms of useful performance, comfort or driving pleasure.

Hydrogen is now becoming a major pillar of the energy transition with the announcement of different international projects. In Europe in particular, the ecosystem is growing and the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance is investing an estimated €60 billion to promote this solution.

Thanks to government plans, the number of hydrogen stations in Europe is constantly increasing and the PEUGEOT brand is working directly with energy suppliers to propose package deals.

With this new e-EXPERT Hydrogen, PEUGEOT is positioning itself as a major player in this energy challenge.
