According to a recent report, Tesla's entry-level sedan will be called the Model E.Autovisie says the car will be introduced in approximately 18 months and have styling that is heavily influenced by the Model S. Despite its smaller dimensions and presumably smaller battery, the Model E will have a range of roughly 320 km (199 miles). For comparison, the entry-level Model S has an "EPA 5-Cycle Certified Range" of 335 km (208 miles).

Previous reports have indicated the entry-level sedan could spawn a crossover that will compete with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The model could be launched in 2017 and feature gullwing doors like the Model X.

If everything pans out, the Model E could cost approximately $35,000 (€25,355 / £21,630).

Notizia letta in parecchi siti, secondo cui entro 18 mesi dovrebbe arrivare una nuova sedan di Tesla di dimensioni inferiori rispetto alla bella e fortunata Model S e che prenderà il posto nei progetti (questo non è scritto in questo articolo ma in altri) della Model X, presentata come concept qualche tempo fa.

Lo stile sarà influenzato dalla sorella maggiore e il chilometraggio si aggirerà attorno ai 320km totali.

WCF parla anche di un possibile crossover di dimensioni compatte, con porte ad ali di gabbiano in stile Model X, ma ne dubito fortemente -almeno per ora.

Tesla hasn't quite delivered its new Model X SUV yet, but at least we have a name for its first electric vehicle pointed at the mainstream. In an interview with AutoExpress, CEO Elon Musk revealed it will be called the Model 3 (with three bars to represent it), after Ford put the kibosh on calling it the Model E. Musk has repeatedly targeted 2017 as the release window for a smaller $35,000 vehicle. He's said it will be the third generation after the original Roadster and Model S, and in the interview claims it will have a range of over 200 miles per charge, probably using batteries built in Tesla's planned Gigafactory. Musk also told the mag about a range boost upgrade coming for the original Roadster that will give it a modern battery capable of going up to 400 miles on a charge, "which will allow you to drive from LA to San Francisco non-stop."

Ben curioso di vedere cosa svilupperano per quel segmento . Stanno arrivando in forze, in tanti: da Alfa a Jaguar agli outsider di Tesla.

C'é un thread a riguardo nella non poi tanto sconosciuta lista threads, il cui titolo é Model E.

Nome diverso, stesso modello; ancora una volta, un po' piú di attenzione per le future volte

Se veramente riescono a produrla per $35k fanno il botto. Dovranno quadruplicare la loro capacità produttiva solo per star dietro agli ordini.

Speriamo di si, altrimenti con il loro modello di business attuale non vanno lontani.
