GM has made no secret of the fact that it’s preparing a super Cadillac ATS-V, which could be called ATS-V+. However, we haven’t had too much information about it up until now. Well, Motor Trend has learned some really exciting new details.

Unlike the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V (pictured) which is powered by a 464hp 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, the ATS-V+ will get a V8 powerplant, as the ATS has been designed from the outset to fit a V8 under the hood. And it’s not going to be any V8, as GM plans to equip the ATS-V+ with the naturally aspirated 7.0-liter LS7 V8used in the current Camaro Z/28 and previous-generation Corvette Z06.

The high-revving naturally aspirated V8 is rated at 505hp and 481lb-ft (652Nm) of torque in the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28. Even if it receives no updates for the ATS-V+, it is still significantly more powerful than the ATS-V’s twin-turbo V6 which produces 464hp and 445lb-ft (603Nm) of torque.

Hand-built at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant, the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 engine should be offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the optional 7-speed manual gearbox from the Corvette. A dual-clutch gearbox should arrive later as well.
