Mladá Boleslav/Pune, 7 October 2021 – The second production model after the KUSHAQ from the INDIA 2.0 project spearheaded by ŠKODA on the Indian subcontinent will be known as the SLAVIA. The new saloon for the A0 segment was named with the earliest days of ŠKODA AUTO in mind. Starting in 1896, one year after the founding of the company, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement successfully marketed their first, jointly developed bicycles under the SLAVIA name. The coming new ŠKODA SLAVIA will once again set out to define a new era, this time on the Indian market. There, the notchback model, which is due to be presented later this year, will complement the OCTAVIA and SUPERB saloons, which are highly regarded in India.

After the KUSHAQ SUV presented in spring, the ŠKODA SLAVIA is the Czech manufacturer’s second new model developed specifically for the Indian subcontinent. This is the region where ŠKODA AUTO oversees all Volkswagen Group activities as well as the INDIA 2.0 project, with the latter encompassing a model offensive comprising a total of four new cars for the A0 segment. The KUSHAQ and the SLAVIA as well as two Volkswagen models are all based on the MQB-A0-IN version of the Modular Transverse Toolkit, which ŠKODA has adapted to meet the particular needs of the Indian market. In vehicle production, ŠKODA AUTO achieves localization of up to 95 percent.

The SLAVIA name harks back to the very early days of ŠKODA AUTO. It was in 1895 that founding fathers Václav Laurin and Václav Klement first started repairing bicycles in Mladá Boleslav. Soon they began designing their own bikes, successfully marketing them under the SLAVIA brand name from 1896 onwards. In the case of the new saloon for the Indian market, this name pays homage to the company’s beginnings. While the ŠKODA KUSHAQ took inspiration from Indian tradition, the SLAVIA represents the close ties between the Indo-European as well as Czech and Indian cultures.

In the early days of the 20th century, the bicycles manufactured in Mladá Boleslav under the brand name SLAVIA stood for reliability, affordability and inventiveness. These are still the key virtues defining ŠKODA AUTO’s Simply Clever philosophy today. The name SLAVIA quickly became synonymous with quality and innovation, and the same designation was also adopted for the motorbikes introduced by Laurin & Klement in 1899. More than 120 years later, the new ŠKODA SLAVIA embodies these same ideals and will perfectly complement the OCTAVIA and SUPERB models in India, which have become highly regarded in the subcontinent over the past two decades. The new SLAVIA will once again be an elegant, powerful and safe saloon car, which is exactly what Indian buyers expect from ŠKODA.

2021 is a year of expansion for ŠKODA AUTO in India. As part of the INDIA 2.0 project, Volkswagen Group has invested one billion euros in the development of four new vehicles (two ŠKODA and two Volkswagen models). Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the new ŠKODA KUSHAQ has had a successful start, with more than 10,000 orders received since its launch in July. Together, the KUSHAQ and the new SLAVIA are expected to boost sales in India considerably. The country plays a key role in the Czech car maker’s global growth plans.

In developing the KUSHAQ and the SLAVIA for India, ŠKODA AUTO focused on the expectations of Indian customers, which are changing dynamically. Cost, range and comfort are particularly important considerations. At the same time, ŠKODA AUTO is investing in the ongoing expansion of its Indian dealer network. The Czech brand is currently represented in more than 100 cities, with 165 sales and service locations. The goal is to increase the number of locations to 225 by the end of 2022.

E la Slavia é uma Fabia con il baule (particolarmente sgraziato, detto per inciso). Non che ci sia da perderci il sonno la notte, peró credo sia un errore. Oppure non capisco io.

Penso si riferisca alla variante A0 del pianale MQB, cioè quello utilizzato per i prodotti si segmento B e B-Plus del gruppo VW.

Mladá Boleslav/Mumbai, 11 October 2021 – The ŠKODA SLAVIA sees the Czech car maker releasing what is its second new model for the Indian market, developed as part of its INDIA 2.0 project. During its last test drives, the final details of this new saloon for the A0 segment will be concealed by a very special camouflage wrap. It is the result of a “Camouflage with ŠKODA” design contest that enabled external design professionals and budding designers in India to submit their ideas. The contest received over 200 entries and was won by Shreyas Karambelkar from Badlapur in Maharashtra. In addition to a trip to Prague, the designer also won an in-person meeting with Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design.

The “Camouflage with ŠKODA” design competition had been kicked off in August, aimed at design studios, companies, universities, design students and design professionals. By the closing date of 18 August, more than 200 design proposals for the ŠKODA SLAVIA camouflage wrap had been received from all over India. Five designs were shortlisted. The final decision was made by a jury comprising Gurpratap Boparai, Managing Director of ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited, Zac Hollis, Brand Director ŠKODA AUTO India, and Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design. They evaluated aspects such as creativity and technical expertise with a particular view towards innovation, aesthetics, functionality, impact and emotional appeal.

Winning design represents blend of Indian motifs and Czech art
Shreyas Karambelkar’s design proved to be the winner. Its warm colours along with peacock and lotus flower motifs represent Indian culture. At the same time, the design also references elements of Czech glass art and Cubism. As the winner of the contest, Karambelkar will now fly to Prague, where he will meet the ŠKODA Head of Design, Oliver Stefani. The runner-up design took its inspiration from the ŠKODA colour palette and impressed with basic regular shapes arranged in what appeared at first glance to be a random pattern. The jury rewarded this effort with a design tablet, while the remaining finalists received ŠKODA AUTO products.

The SLAVIA is the second ŠKODA model developed as part of the model campaign for the Indian market, following in the footsteps of the KUSHAQ SUV. ŠKODA AUTO oversees all Volkswagen Group activities on the Indian subcontinent as part of the INDIA 2.0 project. The project aims to increase the presence of ŠKODA and Volkswagen on the Indian market and to achieve a combined market share of five per cent by 2025, depending on the development of the market and segment.

Overall investment in the INDIA 2.0 project amounts to 1 billion euros, of which 275 million euros are earmarked for research and development of new models for the Indian market’s volume segments. ŠKODA has set up an MQB-A0-IN production line in its Pune plant and achieves localization of up to 95 percent in vehicle production – in other words, almost all vehicle components are “Made in India”.
