Škoda Vision O: a glimpse into the estate car of tomorrow

 

Škoda Auto has unveiled the first silhouette and animation of its upcoming Vision O concept. The sleek profile reveals the foundational shapes of a study that evolves the brand’s Modern Solid design language while also hinting at the future of one of Škoda’s most beloved body styles: the estate.

 

Estate cars are at the heart of Škoda’s DNA. The Octavia Combi is currently in its fourth generation and remains a long-time bestseller— even topping the best-selling estate car charts in many markets. The Superb Combi is also highly popular with customers. It’s no surprise, then, that Škoda is committed to continuing the estate bodywork legacy into the future.

The Vision O concept, set to debut in September in Munich, offers an early glimpse of what the future might look like. The preview images showcase the sharp lines of the headlights and the aerodynamic curves of the body. Key features include a steeply raked windshield and a gently sloping roofline—design cues that have characterised Škoda’s most successful estate models.

 

 According to exterior designer Jounggeen Kim, who worked on the exterior design of the study, the Vision O represents an evolution of Škoda’s design philosophy: “My task was to apply the Modern Solid language to an estate car,” he says.
 
The entire concept is rooted in the principles of circularity, which is also reflected by the letter “O” in the name. Circularity means placing a strong emphasis on sustainability, recycling, and reusability—not only in the vehicle’s construction and materials, but also in its practical everyday function.

 

 “I see Škoda as a family-oriented brand—practical, reliable, and trustworthy,” Kim continues. “I aimed to reflect those qualities through the new Modern Solid design language.” Although the Vision O introduces entirely new design elements, Kim also drew inspiration from Škoda’s past: “I appreciated details from earlier Škoda models such as the Yeti and Roomster,” he notes. In terms of creative influence, he also looked at the world of czech architecture, which brought geometric shapes in a soft and elegant form. “The result is a design that feels modern, simple, fresh, and timeless,” says Kim.

Škoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer shared the following statement about the concept: "The Škoda Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability, and the deep experience of Škoda Auto in this segment. This will be one of our most significant steps in developing and evolving our design language even further for this period of transition in the automotive industry. It will position us to remain a major player in the estate segment, where Škoda Auto has been engaged since the 1920s. We are excited to present this concept to the world in early September 2025, marking a new era for Škoda Auto."

 

 According to Kim, working on the Vision O concept was an extremely rewarding experience:
“Although the timeline was intense, preparing a concept car is in many ways more liberating than working on a production model. The rules aren’t quite as rigid; the team is smaller and more tightly connected—it creates a very creative atmosphere.”

Esatto… poi è scritto anche new estate car che sta per SW.

nonostante sia una dei marchi della galassia VAG, è forse l'unico che comprerei del lotto, perché ha negli interni ed in alcune piccole libertà progettuali delle chicche che gli altri del gruppone non considerano (una fesseria: il portaombrelli nella portiera in stile Rolls, come lo era sui modelli di lusso progettati da Laurin & Klement)

Hanno anche i portabicchieri che si adattano al diametro della bottiglia cosi nel caso di bottiglia piccola/borraccia non traballa

Ho molti cari amici cechi, e mi sembra realistico quello che mi hanno detto: in Skoda, forse per il loro passato automobilistico e il loro nazionalismo orgoglioso, sono tutti attenti a ogni livello alla sfida con il resto del gruppone, sfruttando la loro parziale autonomia. Ci sta, sono gli unici ad essersi ribellati nel 68 ai sovietici e tutta la loro storia è antica e gloriosa. E Praga è una delle città mitteleuropee più belle che abbia mai visto, la sua antica gloria è ben presente.
