The new Bovensiepen Spider.

Engineered for the thrill of every corner.

Cars are constantly getting bigger, heavier and increasingly influenced by SUV designs.

At the same time, a vehicle class that for decades epitomised the most immediate form

of driving is disappearing: the lightweight, two-seater roadster.

Not at Bovensiepen!

“Ever since I was part of the BMW Z8 development team at BMW in Munich in the late 1990s, purist roadsters have fascinated me. Cars that are light, responsive and therefore a great joy to drive. They appeal to all the senses and put a smile on the driver’s face,” says Andreas Bovensiepen, one of the managing directors of Bovensiepen. “With the third model from Bovensiepen, we are deliberately refocusing on a distinctive exterior design.” The characteristic black front splitter and the wraparound black design line are hallmarks of all Bovensiepen creations.

The Bovensiepen Spider is a two-seater designed without compromise for driving pleasure, combining classic sports car proportions with modern powertrain technology, contemporary crash safety and craftsmanship, entirely in the spirit of ‘Fine Driving’. The limited production run of just 99 hand-built cars underlines its exclusive character.

Classic proportions – reinterpreted by Frank Stephenson Design

The body of the Bovensiepen Spider follows the classic proportions of a front-engined

sports car: a long bonnet, a cockpit set far back and short overhangs.

As with the Bovensiepen 05 GT, the design of the exterior components was developed in

collaboration with the renowned automotive designer Frank Stephenson.

The front splitter, finished in high-gloss black with its characteristic twin tips, the large

wheel arch vents in the front fenders, the side skirts and the rear diffuser lend the roadster

a completely new, distinctive and, at the same time, more exclusive appearance. The large,

harmoniously integrated rear spoiler extends the rear end and creates a noticeably elonga-

ted, sportier silhouette. The result: a sporty, elegant and timeless design.

The 20-inch Bovensiepen forged wheels with their ten long double spokes are not only eye-

catching but are also systematically designed for lightweight construction. The reduced

weight enhances agility and driving comfort. A fine example of: ‘Form follows function.’

Even when stationary, the Bovensiepen Spider sends a clear message: ‘Drive me. Throw me into the bends. Let me enjoy the sun and the wind.’

Six-cylinder tradition – at its best

Ever since the launch of the legendary Jaguar E-Type, the inline six-cylinder engine has

been regarded as one of the most fascinating power units for a roadster. Powerful, refined

and yet comparatively light, it offers the ideal conditions for an exhilarating open-top sports

car concept.

Beneath the long bonnet, the twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine

develops 320 kW (435 PS) and delivers a maximum torque of 580 Nm. What matters is not the peak power output, but the power-to-weight ratio of 3.6 kg per PS and the refined and harmonious delivery of power.

A prerequisite for the above performance figures is that the engine can ‘breathe’ freely.

To this end, the intake air duct has been unrestricted and extended to include an additional channel (ram air). The intake silencer has been enlarged and optimised for airflow.

The Bovensiepen sports exhaust system has also been optimised in terms of its flow

characteristics and exhaust back pressure, whilst at the same time delivering an exhilarating, sporty sound. The optimisation of the intake and exhaust systems provided the technical basis for a targeted increase in engine power and the resulting performance.

Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes 4.2 seconds, whilst the top speed is 260 km/h as

standard (295 km/h when combined with the Performance Package).

Targeted optimisations to the cooling system ensure that the car’s performance always re-

mains fully available. The main cooling package is supported by a high-performance 1,000-watt electric fan, ensuring the thermal stability of the powertrain. A Performance Pack is available as an option for sporty drivers. This includes a Bovensiepen rear differential cover, milled from aluminium, featuring larger cooling fins. This reduces the thermal load on the rear differential under very high stress, such as during fast motorway driving with constant heavy acceleration, and allows the top speed to be increased to 295 km/h. Part of the Performance Pack is an optimised underbody reinforcement with a V-brace. This increases the structural rigidity and thus contributes to more precise chassis response.

The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission adapts fully to the driver and their driving style. In Sport mode, gear changes are made decisively and within around one-tenth of a second.

Using the paddle shifters on the steering wheel, the driver can manually select the gear

themselves. Those who prefer a more relaxed drive, on the other hand, will experience

smooth and comfortable gear changes in automatic mode.

Perfect ergonomics connect the driver and the car

The perfect ergonomics, with their low seating position, integrate the driver directly into the

car. You don’t just sit in the Bovensiepen Spider – you become part of it.

“The lightness and agility with which the Bovensiepen Spider handles thrilled me right fromthe very first few metres – it’s brilliant how our engineers have refined the Spider,” says Andreas Bovensiepen. “Steering inputs are translated instantly; the car responds spontaneously and precisely.” The high body rigidity supports the precise chassis setup and provides clear feedback to the driver.

The Bovensiepen Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S wheel and tyre combination, in 9x20“ with 255/35 ZR20 tyres at the front and 10.5x20“ with 295/30 ZR20 tyres at the rear, offers a high level of grip whilst maintaining good wet-weather performance. The lightweight Bovensiepen forged wheels ensure a responsive driving experience.

To make the most of the high-performance tyres’ potential, the suspension features newly

tuned dampers; in particular, the compression stage has been increased at low damper

speeds. Longer auxiliary springs on the rear axle provide a more responsive body-to-chas-

sis connection.

The optional high-performance braking system with 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle

underlines the Bovensiepen Spider’s impressive dynamic driving potential. The perforated brake discs, measuring 395 millimetres in diameter on the front axle and 345 millimetres on the rear axle, combined with special brake pads, guarantee reliable deceleration and high resistance to fade.

The combination of a powerful drivetrain, low kerb weight, direct steering and a precise

chassis creates the kind of agility that many large sports cars can no longer deliver.

Open-top driving – a treat for all the senses

A roadster takes on a whole new character the moment the roof opens. Sounds, smells,

temperature and the wind become part of the driving experience.

In the Bovensiepen Spider, the silky sound of the inline six-cylinder engine comes into its

own particularly vividly. The exhaust system, with its four tailpipes, accompanies the driver

with a bass-heavy sound that is experienced even more intensely under the open sky. As a

result, the Spider delivers plenty of driving pleasure even at low speeds.

Pure driving pleasure – without compromising on everyday practicality.

With a boot capacity of 281 litres, the roadster offers a surprising amount of luggage

space. This makes the Bovensiepen Spider suitable not only for a short Sunday morning

drive, but also for a multi-day tour for two along winding country roads and Alpine passes.

Craftsmanship rather than mass production

Inside, the high standards of the ‘Fine Driving’ philosophy are evident in every detail.

The standard upholstery in Vernasca leather and Alcantara seat panels in the distinctive

Bovensiepen design highlights the model’s sporty character.

For the steering wheel Bovensiepen opts for high-quality Lavalina® leather.

Heated steering wheel, comfort access and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound System

are all part of the standard specification, along with other comfort features.

For customers who demand the very highest standards of exclusivity and craftsmanship,

full leather interiors from the in-house saddlery are available. As with the steering wheel, the

renowned Lavalina® leather is used here – a material regarded by experts as the benchmark for the highest quality in the automotive sector. The barret-dyed cowhide full-grain leather has an exceptionally soft, supple feel and develops a distinctive patina over time, which further emphasises the unique character of this leather.

As an option, the dashboard can be finished in leather. The A-pillar trim, the wind deflector

and the cover around the roll bar can also be covered in Alcantara.

The Bovensiepen Saddlery brings individual customer requests to life with great dedica-

tion. Whether it’s a footwell or boot fully lined in Alcantara, personalised embossing on the

headrests or intricately embroidered motifs based on individual specifications – there are

virtually no limits to the creative freedom available to customers.

Each of the 99 limited-edition Bovensiepen Spiders bears a numbered production plaque –

a testament to its special heritage and unmistakable identity.

Variants

The Bovensiepen Spider is limited to 99 units and is available in five exclusive metallic paint

finishes: 40 in Sapphire Black, 25 in Sanremo Green, 20 in Skyscraper Grey, 9 in Thundernight and 5 in Frozen Grey II. On request, any of the vehicles can be finished in your chosen

paint colour at the Bovensiepen manufactory.

As standard, every Bovensiepen Spider

features black Vernasca/Alcantara upholstery; the vehicles in Sapphire Black and Sanremo

Green are also available in the Vernasca/Alcantara ‘Cognac’.

One of the last of its kind – one of 99.

The Bovensiepen Spider is aimed at people who are not content with the automotive main-

stream. It is for enthusiasts of pure sports cars, for people who want to fulfil a dream.

Whilst almost all manufacturers have abandoned the segment of lightweight, two-seater sports cars, we are deliberately holding on to this fascinating niche.

The Bovensiepen Spider offers state-of-the-art control systems and the latest crash safety

standards in a roadster powered by an exhilarating internal combustion engine. One of the last of its kind.

To ensure its exclusivity and long-term value retention, production is limited to 99 vehicles

worldwide.

Each individual vehicle thus becomes an exclusive piece of motoring history – and a sports car that represents something special not only today, but also tomorrow.
