Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co. has extensively redesigned its Santa Fe sport utility vehicle for model year 2006.

The new edition, which sports a more modern style, is scheduled to go into production at Hyundai's plant near Montgomery, Ala., in mid-2005.

With the introduction of the compact Tucson SUV, Hyundai reportedly has slightly enlarged the new Santa Fe, with more room inside, including the addition of a third-row seat. This should make the vehicle more competitive with such rivals as the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot.
