Fiat CEO says GM woes won't hurt Fiat financially

MILAN, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Italy's Fiat SpA <FIA.MI> does not see any financial problems for itself from current difficulties at U.S. car maker and ex-partner General Motors Corp <GM.N>, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said.

"I can guarantee ... that the problem does not exist. Operationally, GM's crisis has no repercussions for Fiat," he told journalists.

Fiat and GM broke up most of their four-year partnership earlier this year and the Italian industrial group received a final payment from the U.S. car giant in May, getting 566 million euros after a first payment in February of about 1 billion euros.

GM said on Thursday it had been subpoenaed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which is investigating its accounting.

A GM spokeswoman said the company was not preparing a filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from its creditors.

GM's shares slid 5.4 percent on Thursday to $27.61 on the New York Stock Exchange while Fiat stock closed down 5 percent at 6.63 euros in Milan.

"It's not a pleasant situation because (GM) is the biggest competitor in the world. If it does have financial problems it would have repercussions on the industry in general. There will be uncertainty until there is clarity over GM's future," Marchionne added.

lust queste ipotesi sono ridicole GM non puo' fare niente...ma i mercati sono istintivi ed a volte credono a voci di corridoio che sono ingiustificate...
