Renault has confirmed it will launch a new two-seater convertible model at the Geneva motor show in March.

The model will sit on the Twingo platform, but it will get its own unique badging and interior, featuring parts seen in other Renault models. The engine range is expected to mirror that of the Twingo, although this has yet to be confirmed by Renault.

The coupe-convertible will feature a folding metal roof and will be a strict two-seater. It will be pitched as a sporty model without being a proper sports car. A Gordini model is possible in the future.

A Renault source described the car as being “perfect” in the current trend of downsizing due to its chic styling, low emissions, fun performance and impressive economy.

The firm will release an official teaser image of the car within the next two weeks, which will give more away about the new car’s looks.

But grainy pictures have appeared on the internet of a 1:43-scale model of the car, which our source described as showing “the real thing”.

The model shows the model will have the Twingo’s ‘wheel at each corner’ design as well as its bonnet and headlights. The front grille is unique to the convertible model, however.

The new small coupe-cabriolet is one of two open-top models Renault will launch at the Geneva motor show in March. The firm will also launch the coupe-cabriolet Megane.
