Lexus IS chief engineer Junichi Furuyama has hinted at the possibly of a new IS F.Speaking to The Motor Report, Furuyama said the model will likely stay in the lineup but the 5.0-liter V8 engine could be dropped. As he explained, “That V8 is a little difficult to meet Euro 6 [emission standards]." He went on to say, "We probably need a new engine for the F model.”

When asked about a possible replacement, Furuyama said either a naturally-aspirated or turbocharged engine would be feasible. However, he implied the former was more likely because "Natural aspiration is one of our strong points... and is a more pure experience."

Furuyama also downplayed the possibility of a hybridized engine by saying it could happen in the future but not for this generation.
