The next-generation Clio is planned for launch next autumn, and engineers are carrying out the last phase of cold-weather testing up in the Arctic Circle. Our photographers - working at minus 27 degrees - caught this saloon-bodied prototype. This version, which will not be offered in the UK, is to be built in Romania for the Eastern European market; Renault owns Romanian car maker Dacia, and this four-door and its compact station wagon counterpart may be marketed under the Dacia brand in some markets. They'll be cheap, too - prices are said to be pitched from 5000 euros - but they won't have the same equipment levels and refinement as the Western European Clios, although all the models will be based around the same Clio/Nissan Micra 'B' platform.

The UK-bound Clio hatch will have a rear end similar to that of the latest Megane, with a reverse-sloped rear screen and bustle-like bottom. The front end will also strongly resemble the Megane's. Sharing its underpinnings with the latest Nissan Micra, it will be slightly longer than the current car, but width and height will remain unchanged. The engine line-up will be similar to that of the Micra, including the two dCi diesel units (62bhp and 82bhp), and a Renaultsport 2.0-litre turbo engine (200bhp) is also on the cards. The Clio hatchback will follow the 'Cliospace' or 'Twingospace' mini-MPV (see separate story), which goes into production next spring to rival models such as the Fiat Idea, Opel Meriva, Toyota Yaris Verso and so on.

Non e' male ma credo che annoiera' gia' dall'uscita vista la troppa somiglianza con la Megane e con il vecchio modello....

certo in renault usano troppo fortemente il family feeling..peggio di bmw e mercedes....
