Non è un momento particolarmente felice per AutoEuropa, l'azienda che controlla lo stabilimento portoghese di Volkswagen dove vengono assemblate le monovolume "Sharan", Seat "Alhambra" e Ford "Galaxy".

Dopo aver chiuso il 2002 con la produzione in calo di 6000 unità e aver annunciato uno stop dell'attività per 16 giorni nel 2003 e per altri 34 nel 2004, AutoEuropa teme ora la concorrenza dei Paesi dell'Est Europa, tanto che il direttore Gerd Heuss ha chiesto l'intervento del governo di Lisbona per risollevare le sorti della fabbrica.
