Compact, attractively styled and full of surprises: Škoda Auto will celebrate the extension of its model range to five with the introduction of Yeti at Geneva. The 4.2 metre long, five-door vehicle bears the well-known features of the brand. An impressive front end with a ribbed grille and friendly looking headlamps confidently demonstrate Yeti’s relationship with the Škoda family. Sturdy flanks and distinct wings give Yeti its robust and solid look on 17 inch wheels, without coming across as bulky and heavy.

he Yeti is a clever response by Škoda Auto to the increasingly important ecological issues in the popular and growing SUV class. Škoda has met the demands for a cleanly styled body, a high seat position and versatile operating options with a design, which despite its robustness, exudes lightness rather than bulky shapes. The Yeti also meets the needs for environmental care, luggage space, safety and great road holding.

A carefully balanced running gear concept allows the driver to implement what the design implies: fun and dynamic to drive. The Yeti distinguishes itself with very agile handling coupled with high safety reserves. As well as the stylish exterior of the Yeti, the driver and passengers feel safe.

This impression is reinforced, among other things, by the turbo-charged and frugal engines. Two petrol engines and three diesel are on offer: The entry unit (front wheel drive), a petrol engine with four cylinders and 1.2 litre capacity, delivers 77 kW thanks to a power-providing turbo charger (105 PS). The fuel consumption stays within tight limits.

The Yeti is very well equipped for load lugging, too. The luggage compartment volume is flexible; up to 1760 litres is available by removing the rear seats. A luggage cover and net as well as lashing rings are available to further secure the load. As the Yeti is born of a brand which offers clever automobile concepts as its core competence, it is designed with a highly flexible luggage system.

The Yeti is a clever compact SUV that is bound to create a stir in this segment. Excellent handling characteristics and high agility are features of all trims. The 4×4 variants are also characterised by outstanding off-road suitability and excellent traction. These, coupled with superb emission values and low fuel consumption meet the needs for a socially acceptable extension of the SUV class.

rimango del parere che è un pò troppo lunga, con quel muso particolare sarebbe stata molto carina 3 porte compatta e piccola... magari con 4x4 inseribile e funzione blocco del differenziale

Aspetto di vedere il mini suv by Nissan...

Interessante il 1.2 turbo 4 cilindri...sembra un motore completamente nuovo , visto che il vecchi 1.2 era tre cilindri.

Skoda Yeti

Il primo SUV della Casa ceca

Ha il nome di un mostro delle nevi, ma la Skoda Yeti è solo il nuovo SUV compatto che va a completare la gamma del marchio ceco in un segmento dove non era mai stato presente prima. Lunga 4,2 metri, la Yeti ha uno stile semplice e coerente con gli altri modelli e presenta i montanti (tranne quello centrale) scuri, quasi a rendere sospeso visivamente il tetto. La parte inferiore in nero ispira protezione dalle insidie del terreno. La coda è alquanto squadrata, originale invece la combinazione dei gruppi ottici anteriori con le luci di profondità che vengono fuori dai due lati della calandra e si fanno spazio anche a spese dei fari anteriori.

Per quanto riguarda il resto, non si sa ancora molto. Di sicuro lo spazio interno è notevole visto che il volume di carico può arrivare fino a 1760 litri rimuovendo i sedili posteriori, una possibilità offerta anche sulla originale ma incompresa Roomster. Di livello superiore invece i propulsori previsti. Due sono i benzina, entrambi 4 cilindri TSI con turbo e iniezione diretta: accanto al noto 1,8 litri da 160 CV c’è il nuovo 1,2 litri da 105 CV che sarà offerto con la sola trazione anteriore. Alternativa tra trazione 4x2 e 4x4 invece per la 2 litri TDI common rail da 110 CV, mentre trazione integrale per le varianti con potenze da 140 CV e addirittura da 170 CV. Ce n’è dunque per immaginare prestazioni notevoli, in grado di impensierire concorrenti ben più blasonate.

In attesa di saperne di più, si sa che la Skoda Yeti comincerà la sua commercializzazione dal prossimo autunno, si spera a un prezzo competitivo come è nella tradizione di Skoda.
