However, Auto Express can reveal that Subaru is prepared to commit investment to a motorsport return - with a hybrid-power aspect - if the coverage is deemed widespread enough. The World Rally Championship is one candidate, though the obvious-candidate WRX STi would have to be heavily revised to comply with the supermini-friendly regulations currently present.

Le Mans endurance racing is also on the table, as Subaru eyes the racing fortunes of Toyota's LMP1 team, not to mention Nissan's return in 2015. Company insiders say the budget and willpower could be found - if there is a big English audience to recognise the Le Mans commitment. The lack of a strong link between Audi's Le Mans dominance and its road car business is one of the prominent obstacles currently neutering Subaru's ambitions.

Hybrid prototype racing is especially attractive to Subaru as it'll be launching a new line of hybrid models from 2018. Auto Express can confirm that the cars will be CVT-equipped regenerative braking-charged cars, due to the prohibitive cost of developing an in-house plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Rivoluzione tecnica nel WRC: lo annuncia Barbosa, il Presidente della Commissione Wrc, che vuole varietà nel parco assistenza.

“Se si dipingono tutte le WRC bianche”, ha detto Barbosa, “in questo momento non è possibile riconoscerle. Abbiamo bisogno di cambiare la situazione e di nuovo lo spettacolo portare al nostro sport e fare l’auto più attraenti.”

Fonti Autosport hanno suggerito che si avrà un notevole cambiamento nel 2017 sia nel formato di autoveicoli – potenzialmente spostando le attuali vetture del segmento B fino al D – e nella potenza del motore, con le regole incentrate sul controllo del flusso di carburante per consentire ai produttori di progettare qualunque motore vogliano, entro limiti ragionevoli.

“Abbiamo avuto l’incontro con il gruppo lavoro e tecnico FIA con i produttori e produttori, e ora dobbiamo andare alla Commissione. Sarò a Ginevra presto per discutere di questo documento con Jarmo [Mahonen, FIA direttore raduno], Michele [Mouton, FIA WRC gestore] e Jean [Todt presidente della FIA] e poi diremo: Questo è OK, questo non è OK e fare le opportune modifiche se richiesto. Non possiamo prendere questo incontro come quello finale, ma penso che stiamo andando verso la strada giusta buono: dobbiamo cambiare molte cose per rendere la WRC negli eventi più importanti al mondo: il WRC deve essere più grande.”

Barbosa ha confermato che i regolamenti 2017 sarebbero quasi ultimati pronti e molto probabilmente rivelati nel corso della riunione di dicembre del World Motor Sport Council.

“Sono sicuro che avremo questi regolamenti entro la fine della stagione”, ha detto.
