Škoda Octavia is the brand’s first model with a full hybrid powertrain

› New powertrain is available for both hatchback and estate versions in Selection and Sportline trim levels
› Two variants offer system outputs of 100 kW or 125 kW
› Series-parallel hybrid system operates fully automatically, enables all-electric driving over short distances and requires no external charging

Mladá Boleslav, 5 October 2026 – Škoda Auto continues to expand its broadest-ever powertrain portfolio: the Octavia becomes the brand’s first model to offer a full hybrid powertrain. It is offered with system outputs of 100 kW and 125 kW. The series-parallel hybrid system also enables all-electric driving without the need to charge the traction battery externally. The new powertrain is available for both the hatchback and estate in Selection and Sportline trim levels.

“The Octavia is the first Škoda model to feature a full hybrid powertrain. Its series-parallel hybrid system combines a combustion engine with the flexibility of electric driving. Operating fully automatically, the system selects the most efficient drive mode according to the current conditions. The traction battery is recharged while driving by the combustion engine or through energy recuperation. With two output levels available for both the hatchback and estate, the full hybrid adds another technically versatile option to our powertrain portfolio giving customers even greater choice to match their individual needs.”

Johannes Neft, Škoda Auto Chief Development Officer

Combination of series and parallel hybrid operation enables high efficiency
The Octavia’s full hybrid powertrain comprises two electric motors, a 1.5 TSI evo2 combustion engine, a single-speed automatic transmission and an automatic clutch providing a direct mechanical connection between the combustion engine and the driven wheels on the front axle. The smaller of the two electric motors primarily acts as a generator while also starting the combustion engine. The larger and more powerful traction motor drives the front wheels and recuperates energy during braking. Depending on driving conditions, the system automatically switches between all-electric, series hybrid and parallel hybrid operation to maximise efficiency.

In all-electric mode, the traction motor powers the vehicle using energy stored in the traction battery, enabling a range of up to approximately two kilometres without starting the combustion engine. In series hybrid mode, the combustion engine powers a generator, which generates electricity for the traction motor driving the wheels. The system primarily uses this mode at speeds of up to approximately 60 km/h, as well as when the traction battery’s state of charge falls below a defined level or the driver demands stronger acceleration. In parallel hybrid mode, the combustion engine is mechanically connected to the driven wheels via the clutch and a single fixed gear ratio, while the traction motor can provide additional support to the combustion engine. This mode is used at speeds above 60 km/h and during steady driving, when direct mechanical drive is more efficient.

The traction motor also enables recuperation: energy recovered during braking is stored in the traction battery and reused for propulsion. If needed, the system also engages the mechanical brakes. All transitions between the different modes are controlled automatically.

Two output variants
The Octavia full hybrid will be available in two variants with system outputs of 100 kW and 125 kW. The entry-level variant features a 1.5 TSI petrol engine producing 96 kW, while the more powerful version uses a 1.5 TSI providing a maximum output of 110 kW. The electric motors are identical in both variants, which also share an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.

The traction battery has a gross energy content of 1.6 kWh and its state of charge is automatically maintained between 40% and 90%. The car has a 40-litre petrol tank, and the battery is located under the rear seats. Luggage capacity stands at 460 litres and increases to 1,400 litres with the rear seats folded. For the Octavia estate, the corresponding figures are 485 litres and up to 1,540 litres.

Full hybrid Octavia now available to order
The full hybrid Octavia is available as a hatchback and estate in Selection and Sportline trim levels. Compared with models powered solely by combustion engines, standard equipment additionally includes a 13-inch infotainment display, a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit and a HYBRID badge on the tailgate. Orders open in October, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for December 2026.
