Munich. The first series-produced BMW i4 has today rolled off the production lines at BMW Group Plant Munich. The company’s home plant now manufactures all drive variants on a single assembly line. “For the plant and team, the launch of the BMW i4 is a milestone on the road to electric mobility,” said Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member for Production. “By 2023 more than half of all vehicles from our Munich facility will have an electrified drive. The majority will be fully electric. So Munich goes fully electric.”

 

Setting up production of the fully electric BMW i4 in the confines of the almost 100-year-old plant, the conversion and installation of systems proved particularly challenging. “We succeeded in integrating the new vehicle into our existing systems without halting production. The team and our partners did an amazing job,” added Peter Weber, Director of BMW Group Plant Munich. Space constraints notwithstanding, existing systems were removed, and new ones installed and ramped up. “Our bodyshop is a shining example of intelligent, efficient integration. Most of the new production processes for the BMW i4 can be carried out on the existing bodyshop systems,” Weber explained.

 

Integrating electromobility into series production

The main difference between the BMW i4 and conventional architectures is the electric drive and high-voltage battery. About 90 percent of the existing systems in the Munich bodyshop can still be used for the new model. Additional ones were required only for the floor assembly and rear end.

 

Another highly complex topic was the integration into assembly of the high-voltage battery. The battery pack is now bolted onto the body by a new, fully automated battery assembly system that works from below. Fully automated, high-resolution camera systems scan it thoroughly beforehand to ensure the surface is absolutely clean and there are no impurities that could cause damage.

 

The BMW Group’s home plant now manufactures an extensive portfolio of products, comprising not only the BMW i4 but also the combustion-powered and hybrid BMW 3 Series Sedan and Touring, the BMW M3 and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. The scope of production is a testament not only to the plant’s flexibility but also to the outstanding skills of its associates.

Interessante questa i4, non mi dispiace ed ha il portellone. Mi fa un pò paura la scarsa affidabilità BMW. 

 

A indagine sulla batteria siamo alla solita NMC811 con celle prismatiche di CATL e assemblaggio BMW a Dingolfing. Samsung SDI, che pure è fornitore, forse le montano sulla M50, oppure indifferentemente a seconda delle disponibilità, non saprei, da indagare.

 

Purtroppo quelle celle di CATL hanno già un cadavere di auto arrostita, una Xpeng P7:

 

 

Batteria 83.9 kWh , usabili 81.5 kWh per WLTP di 590 km con i 17" 225/55 della versione base 40.

Concordo su X e Y, che trovo anche io terribili.

 

Ma su S e 3 invece penso il contrario, dal vivo sono davvero molto belle.

Grandissimo risultato di efficienza e range per la i40 Rwd con i 18" da Bjorn Nyland. 

 

Test a 18-20° con tratti di pioggia, NET 80.3 kWh:

Range a 90 km/h = 599 km 

Range a 120 km/h = 436 km

 

Per confronto Tesla M3 LR 2021 a 25-27°, NET 76.5 kWh:

Range a 90 km/h = 563 km 

Range a 120 km/h = 422 km

Bjorn ha fatto pure un test "ECO-RUN" in extraurbano circa 80 km/h, velocità ottimali e programma ECO inserito, alla ricerca della massima autonomia.

Risultato = 671 km contro i 640 km del test con M3 LR e batteria LG (come quella che avevo, per cui apprezzo il risultato).

 

 

Ottimo, e ovviamente anni luce di finiture e qualità.

Prezzi simili ormai, a patto di non strafare con gli accessori da tedesca.

BMW i40 parte da listino a 63,900.

 

Qualcuno sa se le BMW si possono comprare a buon prezzo direttamente a Monaco? 🤩

Forse ordinabile, ma disponibile non potrebbe essere, perche SOP sara tra qualche mesi piu avanti, contemporaneo per tutti versioni (ECE, ECE RHD, US) 😉

 

 

 

 

Un incidente non meglio documentato, ma deve essere un incendio, del 16 Aprile di una i4 eDrive40, ha indotto il richiamo di 83 (per ora) BMW elettriche serie iX e i40, con la specifica di non usare le auto, nè caricarle e parcheggiarle lontano da ogni struttura. ☹️

 

E' stato comunicato che il problema è in difetti di fabbricazione nei catodi delle celle delle prismatiche Samsung NMC.

 

Da Facebook vedo che la stessa comunicazione di non usare l'auto sta arrivando a clienti EU.

 

Con questo, Samsung si aggiunge alla lista di LG Chem, CATL, Panasonic e qualche altra che non mi viene, di incendi spontanei dovuti a difetti di fabbricazione celle delle instabili e suscettibili NMC e NCA.

The recall was issued after the Bavarian automaker was told about "a non-US field incident involving a 2022 BMW i4 eDrive40" in April last year. According to BMW's analysis, the problems started during production when a cathode plate in the battery may have been damaged and allowed debris to enter the battery cell.

BMW also says the cells were produced by a supplier — not itself — and similar incidents were found when looking into the supplier's production process.

BMW was also quick to say that it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the battery defect.
