A gas explosion in the paint shop at Porsche’s main factory in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, this morning has led to production of the 911 being halted.

Exact details are not yet clear as local police and fire brigade begin their investigation. In an official statement, Porsche says gas leaking from a PVC oven ignited, leading to unspecified damage.

Two workers suffered minor injuries in the explosion and were taken to hospital, but they have since been released. Owing to the activation of the sprinkler system some sections of the production hall where the 911 is assembled are under water.

Porsche says production of the 911, which nominally runs at around 160 cars per day, will be halted for at least two to three days, or until such time that the damage can be repaired.

As the body shop and engine production has not been affected, production of the Cayenne and Boxster/Cayman will continue unaffected at Porsche’s Leipzig plant and at its Finnish partner, Valmet respectively.

Bloccata la produzione della 911

E' di questa mattina all'alba la notizia di una forte esplosione presso la sede storica della Porsche di Zuffenhausen. Secondo i primi accertamenti, condotti dalla polizia immediatamente accorsa sul luogo dell'incidente, una fuga di gas in una struttura adibita alla verniciatura sarebbe alla base dell'accaduto. Due i feriti gravi per il momento accertati, ma il bilancio resta incerto.

Non è ancora stato possibile stimare la portata dei danni materiali alla struttura, ma, secondo fonti interne alla società, è certo che alcune aree dello stabilimento resteranno chiuse per almeno 2 o 3 giorni. Sarà così bloccata la produzione della Porsche 911 che, ricordiamo, normalmente viene assemblata proprio a Zuffenhausen al ritmo di circa 160 unità giornaliere.

Non subiranno invece alcuna variazione le produzioni legate alla Cayenne e alla Boxster.

Un bel "Esplosione nello stabilimento Porsche - sospesa produzione 911" sarebbe largamente gradito.

Incredibile,leggevo proprio oggi su un giornaletto Porsche (tipo Feel dell'Alfa) al lavoro (il mio capo ha un cayenne) che quel reparto verniciatura dovrebbe essere nuovo di pacca,c'era un piantina con un rendering...
