Has a new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine

Volkswagen has unveiled facelifted Polo GTI, ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show.

Looking instantly recognizable, the facelifted is distinguished by a sporty front bumper, honeycomb grille inserts and red accents. The styling changes are less noticeable out back but include a new rear bumper and a dual exhaust system.

The sporty styling continues in the cabin as there's a flat-bottomed steering and sport seats with plaid upholstery. Additional changes are limited but there's gloss black accents and red contrast stitching.

Power is provided by a new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 192 PS (141 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the hatchback to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little 6.7 seconds, before topping out at 236 km/h (148 mph). Last but not least, the Polo GTI will now be offered with a six-speed manual transmission as well as the familiar double-clutch DSG gearbox.

The fourth generation Polo GTI5 continues the nearly 30-year production history of this sporty Polo model. The power output of the new 1.8-litre TSI engine at 141 kW /192 PS is much greater than that of the previous model (132 kW / 180 PS). In pursuit of typical GTI driving performance, this icon accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 236 km/h. Its maximum torque is 320 Nm. For the first time, a manual 6-speed gearbox will be offered as an alternative to the 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. On the exterior, the vehicle's sporty character is underscored by independent bumpers, red GTI insignia, distinctive side sills and GTI-specific rear spoiler. The sport steering wheel, instrument cluster and sport seats follow the interior design of larger Golf GTI. Offering an even sportier driving experience is the optional "Sport Select" suspension (electronically adjustable dampers) with the "Sport Performance Kit" (more sporty tuning of various parameters at the push of a button).

In brief: The new Polo GTI

Fourth generation compact GTI

236 km/h Polo GTI* only uses 5.6 l / 100 km with DSG

New Polo GTI features 192 PS TSI and optional Sport Select suspension

Latest version of the Polo GTI offered with manual gearbox and DSG

Ten key facts about the new Polo GTI*:

1. With an 1.8 litre TSI engine delivering 141 kW / 192 PS the new Polo has 9 kW / 12 PS more power than its predecessor.

2. A manual 6-speed gearbox will be available in this generation again as an alternative to the 7-speed DSG.

3. Typical GTI performance: 0–100 km/h in 6.7 s; top speed 236 km/h.

4. New Polo develops up to 320 Nm of torque.

5. Optional 'Sport Select' suspension (electronically adjustable dampers) including 'Sport Performance Kit' (more sporty tuning covering a wide range of parameters, all at the push of a button).

6. GTI styling: discreet bumpers, radiator grille and headlights with classic red GTI strip, distinctive side sill, customised rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels.

7. First Polo with LED headlights as an option.

8. Sports steering wheel, instrument cluster and top-class sports seats follow design of larger Golf GTI.

9. The new Polo GTI is the next in the series of high-performance compact cars which began in 1985 with the Polo G40.

10. Advance sales have already started in Germany; the European launch will begin in February 2015.

  • The countdown to the launch of the new Polo GTI is under way. With an output of 141 kW / 192 PS (12 PS more than its predecessor) it comes close to achieving the performance levels of the most powerful series Polo of all time, the R WRC – the road-going version of the Polo that won the World Rally Championship for Volkswagen Motorsport at the first time of asking in 2013, a title they have already successfully defended this year before the season is even over.
  • Now also available with manual gearbox again. With a top speed of 236 km/h the new Polo GTI only falls 7 km/h short of the 162 kW / 220 PS Polo R WRC, which is sold out. Whereas the predecessor of the Polo GTI was only available with an automatic dual clutch gearbox, the new model is now also being offered with a manual gearbox again. With both transmission variants, the new Polo GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, just a whisker short of the figure for the Polo R WRC: 0.3 seconds, to be precise. Yet the figures for the new Polo GTI's fuel consumption show just how amazingly efficient it is: 5.6 l/100 km (equivalent to 129 g/km CO2) in conjunction with the 7-speed DSG, and 6.0 litres (139 g/km CO2) with the 6-speed manual variant. And here the Polo R WRC (7.5 l/100 km) is finally overtaken by the new Polo GTI.
  • Powerful design, distinctive GTI insignia. The exterior of the Polo GTI features new bumpers, distinctively flared door sills, the GTI logo on the front wing and classic GTI insignia such as the red strips in the discrete radiator grille and headlights which give the car a dynamic appearance. The Polo GTI is also available for the first time with LED headlights (dipped and main beam), and daytime running lights also provided by LEDs. The Polo GTI's sporty appeal is further enhanced by the new alloy wheels with GTI styling (size: 7.5J x 17) through which the gleaming red brake callipers are visible, and the sports suspension, which is also standard equipment. At the rear, the GTI roof spoiler, tail light clusters in 'Dark Red', the black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes all continue the sporty theme.
  • Interior design and features. GTI red accentuates the sporty design of the interior, too. The leather sports steering wheel, adapted from the Golf GTI, has contrasting red stitching, as do the gear lever and handbrake lever; the floor mats also feature borders with red beading. Driver and passenger sit on top-class height-adjustable heated sports seats with centre panels upholstered in exclusive 'Clark' cloth (the outer sections are in 'Black' and also have contrasting red stitching). Features such as the instrument cluster with GTI design, black headliner and aluminium-look pedal caps complete the dynamic interior ambience. Also standard: sound actuator, Driver Alert System, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and ParkPilot.
  • New world of infotainment. The infotainment systems in the Polo GTI have also been re-conceptualised. Depending on the version, they offer functions such as Bluetooth audio streaming, a proximity sensor and two-finger map zooming in navigation mode. DAB+ digital radio can be added to all four systems – 'Composition Touch' (standard), 'Composition Colour', 'Composition Media' and 'Discover Media'. Special smart phone apps can be accessed on the touchscreen via MirrorLink™.
  • 'Sport Select' suspension and ESC Sport. For the first time, Volkswagen is offering electronically adjustable dampers in the Polo GTI. These form the core technology basis of the new, optional 'Sport Select' suspension, which for the GTI is always available in conjunction with the 'Sport Performance Kit' (sportier tuning covering a wide range of parameters, all at the push of a button). Naturally, the Polo GTI is equipped with ESC, the electronic stability control system, as standard. This can be adapted for use on the racetrack.

*Polo GTI (7-speed DSG): Fuel consumption in l/100 km: combined 5.6 / urban 7.2 / extra urban 4.7; CO2 emissions combined in g/km: 129; efficiency class: C

Polo GTI (6-speed manual version): Fuel consumption in l/100 km: combined 6.0 / urban 7.6 / extra urban 5,1; CO2 emissions combined in g/km: 139; efficiency class: D

ora che ci penso anche il 1.8 Audi non e' che in passato avesse brillato per affidabilita'..

'Namo bene :disp2:

gli conviene tornare ai 1.8 da 90cv

Some critics have complained that the 4C lacks luxury. To me, complaining about lack of luxury in a sports car is akin to complaining that a supermodel lacks a mustache.
