Mi pare che durante la crisi delle Big Three il governo USA avesse messo in chiaro che per salvarle avrebbero dovuto avere nella gamma veicoli dalle emissioni particolarmente basse. Per questo fu incentivata l'acquisizione di Chrysler da parte di FIAT con relativa commercializzazione delle parche utilitarie italiane in suolo statunitense.
Non per niente a quei tempi c'era lui, che ci teneva a queste cose:

 

Ora i tempi sono cambiati perché c'è quest'altro...

People do not want to buy small expensive cars. They want big SUV and pick up.

Especially, when a lot of people choose automatic transmission. Furthermore, in America, distances are too high and it's the best potential market for diesel. Cleandiesel, obviously, not VW diesel!

I think FIAT tried to follow Mini, but Mini offers more models. This segment now is shrinking, this is the problem. Anyway FIAT concentrated on the most expensive models, company proposes them for people who want to be different. I see 500 and Mini pretty often on the streets, so both brands will have a market share in a future.

The question is even not in a power but in a size and comfort. Diesel fuel in most cases is more expensive than gas, diesel cars are more expensive as well. So there is no reason to buy a diesel, no savings at all. There is no taxes that depends on CO2 or size of car.

 

Today's average price in Calgary for 1L of diesel is 1.255$ (0.81Euro). The same price for the regular gas is 1.095$ (0.71Euro). So what is the point to buy a diesel?

I suppose that diesel is cheaper than regular gas. In this case, you don't have convenience.

Sei mai stato negli USA? Tra il Montana, il Colorado, il Nevada e la California ci sono strade con pendenze che mettono in crisi dei V8, figuriamoci un francobollo asfittico del 1.4 aspirato Fiat.

Oltretutto, se non ricordo male, anche il 1,4 multiair turbo perde molta verve con le modifiche americane...

Non mi sembri molto in linea col mercato Usa.

 

L'associazione diesel-lunghe distanze poi, non ha senso, non in relazione ai loro mezzi. 

 

Per macinare km è molto meglio un V8 di 5/6/7 litri con 250cv e la benza a 0,60€ di un 1.6 btdi da 160cv e il gasolio a 1,40€.
