China EV maker BYD to build first Europe plant in Hungary, paper says
BYD has picked Hungary as the site for a factory to support its expansion in Europe, a German newspaper said.

FRANKFURT -- Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD plans to build its first European car factory in Hungary, a German newspaper reported.

BYD has made the decision, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reported, citing unnamed sources close to the automaker.

A government website in Shenzhen, where BYD is headquartered, posted an article last month saying that Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban met BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu on a visit to the company.

BYD, contacted by Reuters, said that it was still looking for the right location and would make an announcement at the end of the year.

The Hungarian government did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li said in February that the automaker wants to build cars in Europe and is carrying out feasibility studies.

BYD's European markets include Germany, France, the U.K., Spain and the Scandinavian countries. The company has an electric bus factory in Hungary, which opened in 2016.

Performance impressionante:

BYD produced the 6 millionth NEV

image.png.05ddfc28f1b9a80faddc123b2e90ef0e.png

Today, the six millionth NEV from BYD rolled off the production line in China. It is the Fang Cheng Bao (FCB) Bao 5 off-road SUV that entered the market on November 9. BYD took only three months to produce 1 million new energy vehicles (BEV+PHEV), indicating a boost in the production volume.

The BYD plant in Zhengzhou has manufactured the six millionth NEV today. It appears to be the recently launched FCB Bao 5 that started deliveries several days ago. The Zhengzhou factory also assembles BYD Seal. As mentioned, BYD took just 3 months to produce 1 million NEVs.

For comparison, it took BYD 13 years to produce 1 million NEVs since the launch of BYD Fr DM in 2008. They broke the second million NEVs threshold much faster in 12 months. The third million required only 6 months. Then, BYD added 2 million produced cars in 9 months. Now, BYD continues to accelerate, manufacturing the 6 millionth NEV. BYD stopped manufacturing ICE cars in April 2022, focusing exclusively on NEVs. This tactic works for them.

The FCB Bao 5 (Leopard 5) is the latest BYD off-road SUV. It is a plug-in hybrid off-roader that stands on the DMO platform. It is available for purchase with a price range of 289,800 – 352,800 yuan (40,830 – 49,690 USD).

The FCB Bao 5’s dimensions are 4890/1970/1920 mm with a wheelbase of 2800 mm. It has a ground clearance of 220 mm. It is also available with a Disus-P suspension that increases the ground clearance to 310 mm. The Bao 5 has two e-motors and a 1.5-liter ICE. Its peak power reaches 505 kW (687 hp). The mixed range of the Bao 5 reaches 1,200 km of CLTC range.
